This makes me want to cry a little. Or laugh. I can never quite separate the two impulses cleanly...
The gist of the article is that the potentially awesome car (made by Ford of all companies) burns diesel to get its clean, high mileage. Because of reasons x,y,z (including high taxes on diesel in the states, importation costs, and the weak US dollar) Ford feels they can only sell it in Europe and make a profit. We'll get a gas version later.
