Members only original fiction subforum?

#1 Members only original fiction subforum?
What it says in the subject. Basically I write a lot of original fiction and I often want to have it published. That means that it shouldn't be previously published, e.g. available to everyone. However if I show my stuff to a few friends, e.g. members only pages, it doesn't count as prior publishing. So how about it? Can we have a members only original fiction subforum?

I think the member traffic we get would hardly count as "published."

I agree with Cleric.
We don't have the numbers to really count towards that problem, and we can delete or move the topic if needed.
This is what's being done to a story on SDNet while the author is selling it for publication.

I think it's the nonmember traffic he's worried about really. As is User Fiction IS open to the general public.
'I wonder how far the barometer sunk.'-'All der way. Trust me on dis.'
'Go ahead. Bake my quiche'.
'Undead or alive, you're coming with me.'
'Detritus?'-'Yessir?'-'Never go to Klatch'.-'Yessir.'
'Many fine old manuscripts in that place, I believe. Without price, I'm told.'-'Yes, sir. Certainly worthless, sir.'-'Is it possible you misunderstood what I just said, Commander?'

It's not so much the traffic, as the fact that materials that are posted in a private section of the web do not count as previously published. Regardless of how many people see it. So having a private section would be really helpful.Batman wrote:I think it's the nonmember traffic he's worried about really. As is User Fiction IS open to the general public.
Incidentally Stuart Slade (if you're referring to him) is self-published, so he doesn't have to deal with a publisher at all.

He's probably thinking of RedImperator, who took down is insanely awesome fic to prepare for publication.Norseman wrote:Incidentally Stuart Slade (if you're referring to him) is self-published, so he doesn't have to deal with a publisher at all.

Well, I don't want to risk it at any rate. I mean why take unecessary chances? If there was a private board I'd put up my fiction there, but as there isn't I won't. I would like to show off my stuff though, which is why a private board would be good.Destructionator XV wrote:He's probably thinking of RedImperator, who took down is insanely awesome fic to prepare for publication.Norseman wrote:Incidentally Stuart Slade (if you're referring to him) is self-published, so he doesn't have to deal with a publisher at all.

We admins are thinking about making the existing story forum viewable only by registered members. That's a fairly minor change that I think will do the job. Not made a final decision yet though.

It's a simple and eloquent solution that affects nothing save that anyone not a registered member of the board cannot gain access to the stories to view them. Two of the admins have voted yes for it as the best solution with DS' vote still pending.

My will be done, and thusly are the forums of fics hidden from the sight of the impure, viewable only by those of the righteous.

So what publishers do you writers submit your stuff to?
I have been reading Analog and Asimov magazines and I might buy myself a copy of Fantasy and Science Fiction this weekend, so it'd be interesting if I had or will read your submission. If you're a short story writer anyway.
