#1 Bad way to end Father's Day

Today Goldie, our Shih Tzu since March of 2000 (born sometime in the last quarter of 1999), passed away from illness. Since my Mom died in August 2001 she'd been a close companion for Dad, always there at the door when he got home from work, sleeping beside him in bed, or in his lap when he was sitting down. Though not a surprise - given her worsening illness - her death coming on Father's Day is a sad end to the holiday.

I'm really sorry that she was sick and that she passed away. Pets are important...they hold a high place in their families hearts. I don't know if you live near your dad, but maybe you can be around him for a bit more?
I don't know what else to say. I know how much I love mine, and I can't imagine your dads agony. My best thoughts of sweet comfort.

I live with my Dad. I found her earlier, just an hour and a half ago.

You, and your dad both have my sympathies. I know how that feels.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your pup.
If I may, when my childhood cat died (my dad's cat, Whitney, a cute little tuxedo cat who drooled tons when happy) we held a wake for him. Talked about all the stories of good times with him. It helped us, maybe it can help with your family.

Thank you, everyone, for your sentiments.
As usual, the way things are now will take a while to get used to. For instance, Dad got home about half an hour ago. My first impulse on seeing his truck outside the window was to open the door for Goldie to go out and greet him. It took a half-second to remember there'll be no more of that.

It's hard to lose a pet, especially one who has been with you for a long time. My condolences. :(
