A moment of reflection and silence for those lives lost in the September 11 Attacks, 11 years ago.
Those who lost their lives in the attacks upon the New York World Trade Center - those upon the planes and those who could not escape the building, we still mourn your loss.
To those whose lives were extinguished in the attack upon the Pentagon, we mourn for you.
To those brave souls who rebelled against their captors and brought down American Airlines Flight 11 before it could be used to kill more of your fellow Countrymen, we salute your bravery and mourn your loss.
To All those First Responder and Rescue workers who stood up in the aftermath of these attacks, and did all you could to help your country recover - to clear the rubble and deceased from New York and Washington D.C. - you will forever have the gratitude of this country and your fellow Americans for your selfless acts in those days. My hope is that one day we can finally - properly - repay you for what you have done.
A moment of Silence please, my friends. And then perhaps, if you wish, share your story of that day.
. . . . . .
I still remember that day, even when others in years before and since have faded to vague impressions. I was 20 years old, not yet 21, attending college at Nicholls State, and doing a Internet Radio show on a small Shoutcast server three days a week. I was still living with my parents back then, and I had just logged onto the internet and had my TV on for background noise. For some reason I actually had the TV on CNN - something I almost never did back then, and rarely do now, and just glanced over on occassion to see what was happening.
It was on one of these brief glances, that I say the footage of the first plane smashing into the WTC building. I watched, unthinking for a few moments, then shouted for my mother to turn the TV on in the living room, to put it on a news channel - any news channel. It wasn't long before the second plane smashed into the second WTC Building - this time live.
I remember the shock, and wondering what the hell just happened, and that it couldn't be real. It's a day etched into my memory indelibly.
