#1 TOS seasons 1&2 vs TNG seasons 3&4

Post by Destructionator XV »

Much of the best of television Star Trek can be found in seasons one and two of TOS and three and four of TNG, so let's pit them against each other.

Which is better? Since this cuts out many of the worst of both shows, it is a hard call. I am kinda leaning toward TNG, but I am not willing to make a stand yet. How about you?

I'd largely given up on TNG by then, so I can't speak specifically to the quality of seasons three and four. But from what I saw of it in later reruns and the like, I still really didn't feel too interested in any of the characters, which was my largest problem with TNG to begin with, even more than I disliked what had been done with the setting itself.

TOS, easily. TOS started the whole thing to begin with, and it's first two seasons were the best - not to say season three was bad, but it had a lot more weaker episodes comparitively speaking than the previous two seasons had.

Compare this to TNG, where it's first two seasons are more or less unwatchable. If a show has to take two years to get good, it's not worth it. Season three TNG was it's height, but season four rapidly fell from that height and started the trend of soap opera episodes. Season three is the only TNG season I would consider spending money on to buy.
