#1 Star Wars Vs Star Trek

We're all freaks and geeks here, so this post is incredibly relevant.
IF you had to choose between the Star Wars universe vs Star Trek universe, which one would you choose and why?
(please note, we are not talking about comparing George Lucas' and Gene Rodenbury's film work, just the universe or concept that was created by them)

Wars...
Because, though mildly unstable, a YT-1300 won't blow up like a firecracker when it is midly nudged by a small child. Unlike a certain Galaxy class we could mention *glares at the Enterprise*.
And the one-in-a-bajillion chance of forcepowers is TOO good to pass up...
Not to mention the capability to travel anywhere in a day, and the overwhelming firepower.

If it was in the Galactic Republic era, I'd chose Wars, hands down. They at least have a functioning capitalist economy and a diverse, vibrant society. If it's the Empire, though, I might go with the Feds.

You wouldn't aid the Rebellion?

The Rebellion does have that rather massive numerical disparity compared to the Empire... not to mention that if Palpatine had gotten pissed enough, he could merely send forth his entire fleet, and curbstomp them so bad Bail Organa's ghost would be jerking as the Executor flies through his rectum...

Last time I checked though...
The Rebellion won.

Hm... with stuff like
that after me, constant danger of defeat and maybe, if I don't die in a blaze of turbolaser fire, spend the rest of my life in the mines of Kessel?
No.

No.
Well, there was only a pair of deathstars... and they were destroyed...
And remember, just don't stray too near to Luke Skywalker, and you'll be absolutely fine.

Luck.
I chose Wars, by the way: even during the Empire, the structure of the society did not drastically change; I suspect the Empire maintained a capitalist economy, and a comparatively liberal society.
At least Wars is never communist ...

In my experience, there is no such thing as luck [/Obi-Wan]
I go for wars. Vibrant and generally beautiful society. Even during the Imperial times. I just need to try to keep my nose out of trouble unless I'm looking for it.

Tough choice. I prefer the concept behind Star Trek, although its actual execution often left much to be desired, for that reason Star Wars is sometimes more tempting. I chose Star Trek though, so long as it is my version of it.
Oh, and it has to be said: Warp Cores do not explode like old, damp TNT sticks. That flaw was on the first flight of Galaxy class starships, and only on that first flight. We are only so painfully aware of it because we followed such a flawed ship for seven years, the rest of the evidence indicates warp cores are quite stable even in the face of crippling battle damage.

Star Trek in a heartbeat.
Because I can then cheat and mimick the Star Wars Universe on the holodeck. Hell,
live in the holodeck for that matter.

'Tis not just the warp cores though...
When have you seen a console explode in your face?
When have you seen a YT-1300 without seat belts?
When have you seen an entire race of stereotypical people who exist only to serve a singular purpose? (Vong don't count)
When have you seen alien races who look just like humans, but with bits tacked on, and then slightly altered to become OTHER "completely different" aliens? (Zabraks are referred to as Near-Humans)
I put it to you thusly: Wars is more interesting, far safer, and far more free to explore the galaxy without the watchful eye of the idiotic Federation constantly upon you.

Shh! You're logically countering a point some people take such pleasure in falsely asserting.

I'm sorry Bob, but it still doesn't explain control consoles

I wasn't talking about consoles now, was I?
And don't call me 'bob'. It's Rob, Robert or Walper.

Most of that can be avoided by simply not going into Star Fleet.
And Walper has a good point with the holodeck. Don't like the world around you? Make a new one
Edit: Besides, Bratty didn't specify a time; TOS Federation didn't have these exploding consoles, was pseudo capitalistic, had more than a couple of braincells dedicated to common sense, the works. So you could go there if you don't want to live in a holo world.

And just think of the crossover possibilities! You think Star Wars and Star Trek mixed is interesting? Imagine the possibilities of creating a 'uber universe' with Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Terminators, Aliens versus Predator, Foundation, <insert your unlimited choices here>.

Redirect: VOY:Spirit Folk, TNG: Elementary, Dear Data, DS9: Our Man Bashir...
And many, many more.

We're not here to debate the issue, Dakarne. If you want to discuss the problems with Trek technology, create a seperate thread.

Hmm...
Provided the Holodeck retained its capability to work properly...
The Culture... just the Culture.

Again: avoid Star Fleet and you won't have such trouble. No Star Fleet means no unexplored areas of space full of weird computer modifying aliens. If you take the minor pains to avoid things that make the computers go nuts then you won't have a problem. For example, don't ask your local super computer to make a villan capable of thinking (Elementary Dear Data) and you won't have a Dr. Moriarty running around.
Remember, you go with all your knowledge. You know what can mess up the tech, and what won't. Find your safe zone and you won't have a problem (avoid main characters like they have some horrible disease while you're at it).
EDIT:
Sorry Rob, I'll stop now, unless a new thread is made that is.

Or just go with the Culture in the first place...
Much nicer people... and a much better Utopia... since all life is for the average human is sex... sex... and a bit more sex.
