I am watching ST: TNG on Spike and "Elementary, Dear Data" was just on. Moriarty at least returns a few seasons later, but then, I can't help but wonder if he was killed in Generations or if he was able to survive the saucer sep.

Well, end of random thought.

Now, "The Outrageous Okana" is on, and I must admit I like this episode. I find it rather funny, and a fun way to spend an hour. However, I've noticed many people both here and on SDN seem to hate this episode. My question in this thread is why? Why do people not seem to like this episode?

Because of the oft-used "OMFGLAz0rz!" arguement...

Kind of irritating... don'tcha think?

I liked the episode at least, although I think the D&D Movie is almost watchable compared to some later episodes of Trek...

WORF: "They're locking lasers"

PICARD: "Lasers? Those won't even penetrate our navigation shields."

I take that as meaning he found the very idea of such a puny ship even thinking about attacking the Enterprise laughable. Consider if a ship the same size and power generation came to the Enterprise:

PICARD: "Phasers? [supriesed at the idea of them actually attacking] Those won't even penetrate our navigation shields. [because it is a puny ship]"

That is how I read it. And probably how any intellegent person would read it.

<edit>Also, Worf's 'Glob fly' remark conecering the ships agree with this assetment.</edit>

RIKER: "May I ask why sir?"
PICARD:" In case we decide to surrender to them, number one!"

So, I'll guiltily chuckle.

My main peeves with Okana are as follows.

A: Troi's snotty, elitist attitude and the arrogant "The Federation is better than everyone else" attidude is particularly bad in this one. This wouldn't be too bad, save the fact that this is the same "holier-than-thou" Federation that was willing to let an entire planet of people die to uphold the hallowed Prime Directive, as seen in a later episode.

B: It's a cheesy episode.

C: Okana's character (a womanizing sexist idiot) was just cliched and stupid, although that's a minor side note, IMNSHO.

Oh, and the 0MFG t3h 14z3rZ!!1 was bad too.

The Outrageous Okona is a really lame episode. There's a whole webpage out there somewhere devoted to systematically destroying it, but the short of it is that Okona really isn't that outrageous - even to the Enterprise crew - the A-plot is stupid and boring (hell, they explicitly state that there's no danger at all!), and the B-plot is... even worse. Ironically, the box art for the VHS release doesn't feature Okona, but Data doing his comedy shtick.

Elementary, Dear Data is one of the better Season 2 episodes... granted, that doesn't say much, although I find I still prefer Pulaski over Crusher.

I have to agree on both counts. Professor Moriarty is one of the more interesting villians TNG created (along with Lore, IMO) and it does bring up some interesting ethical questions about the holograms.

Doctor Pulaski was a good character. I really liked the way she worked with Data - far more interesting than how Crusher was. Pulaski also had some interactions with Worf, she was rather diverse. Crusher had Wesely (to whom I can sometimes connect; probably why he was put in the show) and her bizarre on/off thing with Captian Picard, which could have been removed entirely.

It might had been interesting if the thing with Picard and Crusher had ever gone anywhere, or at least defintivity died, but it just kinda hung there.
