#1 Zombie Plauge on a new scale.
Tripping over a Tenchi fan fic got me thinking of something. Imagine someone releases a zombie plauge on interstellar scale. On thousands on worlds.
Could an interstellar civilization handle such an attack?
How would the ST Federaton do?
How would the SW Empire do (Or the New Republic for that matter)?
The Starship Troopers Federation?
Feel free to throw in other civilizations for discussion.

Ok quarantine would actually be a bit easier because you could effectively cut off a world, also any zombie invasion is easier to take care of when you have power armor. Also space ships could be locked down in the event of a zombie infestation. Also I would pay money to be a Jedi in a crowd of zombies man that’s a fun way to waste an afternoon. Also I have to wonder if the plague would be species specific and would affect aliens.
Ok as for how each group would handle it
The Star Trek Federation would try to negotiate with them, then send in their highest level generals, pitifully under equipped, to kill all the zombies. Then wonder what the hell went wrong when they all die
The Empire would carpet bomb the world then send in a couple platoons of very well equipped storm troopers with walkers and the whole nine yards. They would destroy/capture the zombies then isolate what the hell the virus was and make it an even more powerful weapon and use it to quell rebellions.
The new republic would try to assess the situation, Luke and the Jedi would try to cure a couple zombies wouldn’t work. Then some strange incident would lead to Luke, another Jedi, Han, and Chewie would crash on the planet and have to fight to get to something to save them all and in the middle of it they would find out the Remnants of the Empire was behind it (see above).
Starship Troopers federation would send in fully armored space marines lots of em. They would perform highly organized cleaning sweeps and eliminate the zombies with as little collateral damage as possible.

Are we talking run-of-the-mill zombies, such as the ones defined in the Zombie Survival Guide, or are these some super-zombies? Of the normal variety, they don't have anything in the way of cognitive abilities, so they could hardly operate starships. Even if it occurred on thousands of worlds, the damage they could do would be limited to the planet; we wouldn't see multi-trillion zombie convergence attacks on a single planet.
Any decent military could deal with the threat, and orbital bombardment just makes it even easier. The only problem I would see is having enough manpower to reach all of the planets in time in case a standing army failed. I would anticipate a significant fraction of them would be completely overrun.

Lets do two seperate cases.
Case A: Normal mindless horde zombies
Case B: Super Zombies, with one cavet they cannot build new tools or techonogly, they can use existing ones. Don't argue with me about them being able to do so, for the purpose of this thread, they can't. That's just the way it is.

What about the Emperium of Man?
Would the Space Marines and Inquisition simplycall for Exterminatus upon all the worlds or try to deal with it? Would it be seen as a taint of Chaos?

Quarantine works, but only if people are vigilant.
Also, interstellar trade would come to a standstill.
Incidentally if anyone has read the 'Night's Dawn Trilogy' by Peter F Hamilton you get a answer of sorts on this topic. What it boils down to is: how tough are the quarantine measures and how smart are the zombies? If they're typical zombies - ie, mindless and animalistic - then there shouldn't be a problem, the fuckers couldn't even pilot the starships. But if they're the dead coming back to life but are otherwise intelligent, then you've got a problem.
