#1 TOS: What was Axanar?

Post by Stofsk »

During Captain Kirk's court martial one of the citations or commendations we hear listed is something like "Medal for the Axanar Peace Mission". Fast forward to the episode with Garth Izar, and we hear a few scant details about this event. Captain Garth became famous and a household name for 'keeping the Federation together at the battle of Axanar' or something like that. This battle was vital because it allowed Spock and Kirk to work together as 'brothers' so could it have been a Federation civil war?

Also, I believe it was said in that episode that while Garth went there for war Kirk went there for peace; perhaps some kind of diplomatic talk or mission.

Is this explained somewhere in the books? (forget about it ever being referred to in TNG onwards; like their writers would even know what TOS is)

I believe 'Garth of Izar' covered some details on it, but it's been so long since I read it that I can't tell you for sure.

Do you have the book? Would you be able to give a synopsis?

Give me some time. It's buried somewhere back at the family household. As I recall, the basic premise was Garth's return to the world where he acquired his shapeshifting abilities and a failed attempt to integrate them into Federation society.
