Fanboy Alert: This thread is for discussion of the new Daedalus battleship and her appearance in SG-A: The Siege, Part III
(Major spoilers hidden for those who haven't seen the episode yet.)
Just finished watching Stargate Atlantis, and I went ga-ga over the new starship Daedalus. Now, her weaponry wasn't the greatest thing going (nuclear missiles easily shot down by the Wraith), but the ship overall was beautiful.
She was much larger than the Prometheus, and even had an Asgard crewmember who wasn't so fond of beaming nukes into the Wraith vessels.
While she damaged during battle, she withstood the combined bombardment of ten Hive ships. Quite impressive in my book. Of course, the shields would have been even more powerful if the ZPM had remained aboard.
I'll add more as it becomes available. In fact, next week's episode will be set aboard the ship.

Didn't they say something about launching fighters?

I believe so, even though we never saw the fighters. Caldwell ordered all the fighters to launch when the Darts attacked.
IIRC, Prometheus was able to carry several F-302's, the Daedalus could probably hold many more. In fact, the front of the outrigger hulls appeared to be hangars to me.

I'm moving the thread into the Science Fiction forum.
So it is written, so it shall be done. :P

After looking more closely at a pic of the Daedalus, I noticed that the large outrigger hulls must be modular. The hulls clearly are hangar bays, as I said, but may have been a late addition to the design.
In Moebius Part I, Carter displayed a schematic of the Daedalus, which appeared similar to the X-303. However, after thinking about it, the picture in question actually was of the current Daedalus, just without the outrigger modules.
My best guess was that the basic design lacked enough hangar space, or perhaps was a pure battleship and didn't even have hangars. Thus, the builders added the two hangar modules to compensate.
Obviously, the placement of the hangar modules is a great improvement over the Prometheus, as this allows launched fighters to fly forward, rather than out the ship's sides.

Well, just saw the latest SG: Atlantis episode. We now have confirmation that the outrigger pods are hangar bays, and that the Daedalus carries a fair number of F-302's aboard.
BTW, I can't get enough of the new Asgard character, Hermiod. "Crap indeed."
Spoiler (highlight to read): We also now know that the ship's computers are networked, and the Daedalus is vulnerable to l33t haxxor skillz. Perhaps the Colonials should teach them a thing or two?
EDIT: What the frak is wrong with the size=1 command? It doesn't work for some reason.

Actually, I quickly grow tired of that brain bug. I'll explain why sometime when I'm not half asleep.

If you are using firefox, hit your prefences, pick fonts and see if you have a minuium font size set. The tag is working, but your browser might be ignoring it. I have my firefox set to ignore anythig smaller than size 12, and you might too.

Hey, I didn't say I liked it. Quite the contrary. How, pray tell, is an alien virus supposed to be compatable with our computers in the first place? Not to mention
Daedalus is supposed to be the most advanced machine Earth has ever built. Certainly they'd have McAffee installed?!
Still, they kept continuity and remembered the virus that uploaded into Carter, which was a redeeming factor. Overall, I'd rate the episode 8 out of 10.
And about the settings, I fixed it. Thanks.
