Will Star Trek XI film in Australia? That's the latest rumour about the potential movie, still in the very early stages of pre-production.
According to the latest issue of Star Trek Magazine (courtesy TrekWeb), the Premier of South Australia, Mike Rann, suggested at the Australian Star Trek convention Terra Nova that the next Trek feature film might film there.
"Mr. Rann had been with Paramount Pictures executives at a dinner in Adelaide the day before our convention," said Australian fan club president Stuart Blair. While discussing the upcoming film Princess of Mars, Paramount executives reportedly stated that they were considering filming a Star Trek movie in Australia.
Another fan, Carol Dale, said that Rann revealed that the movie would be set in the immediate future in 2010, "a time when the Earth has been almost destroyed by nuclear war, when our saviours from the future arrive." She said that the storyline, which would span two motion pictures, would involve Spock and possibly other Star Trek characters from shows set further in the future.
Meanwhile, Cinescape has quoted executive producer Brannon Braga as well as Rick Berman about the film's development, suggesting that he may still have a role within the Star Trek franchise despite his role on new series Threshold for CBS. Citing the Star Trek Communicator, Cinescape said that "the two creators want the next Star Trek feature to be a prequel film set before the adventures of Kirk and company in the original series." Their idea is not to focus on the Enterprise era but "Berman and Braga...claim that their movie idea doesn't involve Enterprise in any way", focusing instead of the Romulan Wars.
"One thing that hasn't been mentioned is whether a new TREK movie would reunite any of the previous cast members from the earlier films or television series, or if an entirely new cast of space travellers would be hired," noted Cinescape.
Please note that all information about the eleventh Star Trek feature film is entirely rumour at this point, and should be presumed to be preliminary until Paramount makes an official announcement about the movie.
Linkage.
Good fucking night. I hope this Dale quote really is just a rumor. Nuclear war in
2010? MORE time travel? The Bermaga-ized Romulan War idea is bad enough, but this new rumor is sick. Not to mention, the storyline would be obsolete in five years.
Anyway, about the actual point of the article, good for Australia. Glad they got a piece of the deal.

I'd say that it better be a damned rumor, but honestly, I can't be bothered to care. I stopped watching after DS9 and haven't looked back since. If this is true, it's just more of Paramount trying to squeeze a last few drops out of a dry well.
This sounds lame even for them, though.

I don't want to start up yet another "Trek should die" thread, but yeah, Trek needs to be left alone until Berman and Braga are out of the picture.
It still amazes me, that after two flop movies, one shit series and one cancelled shit series, that these jackasses haven't been fired. It's bad business strategy on Paramount's part to let such a once-great franchise be mismanaged like this.
I just hope that Trek XI gets the axe soon, while it's still in pre-production. Because if it does go ahead, the franchise will be fucked for good. Do I want that? No. I'm a fan of Trek, at least up until the end of DS9 and First Contact. Why else would I be writing a Star Trek fanfic?
There is still things to be explored by Star Trek. Still threads that have not been resolved. For just one example, what about the "Progenitors" that were discovered in TNG? Certainly someone could follow up on that, and make an entire adventure story or arc series about it. Instead, we have more time travel deux ex machina and abuse of continuity. Gah.

Oh, don't worry. When the movie would fuck the real-world continuity in five years, I'm sure they will release Star Trek: Crisis on Infinite Earths or Star Trek: Zero Hour where the entire human history would be re-written since the Big Bang and the *entire* TOS storyline would have actually happened in a "pocket universe".

Then, Capt Janeway would go back in time and play the part of Eve. Picard would then be killed by a deranged El-Aurian on a God-forsaken world and Archer would ascend to godhood. Add to that a mud fight between Seven and T'Pol in order to appeal to the male demographic. This grand epic film event would be called
Star Trek: Regurgitation, and be directed by Akiva Goldsman.

........well of course Captain Kirk will die (or would have died?) in a battle against Anti-Monitor, and nobody will remember him since he won't exist in the mainstream timeline. That would be the excuse to reboot the entire TOS series; making it more "politically correct" and the likes, where a young Kathryn Janeway will be the Captain of the Enterprise-A. Wearing leather.
*ducks*

No, Picard would go back in time with Janeway to play 'Adam and Eve' together which includes eating the apple, mud-wrestling, and other acts of adultery that would result, among other things, their banishment from heaven. But of course, that only means that every single human beings on Earth is actually descendant of Picard and Janeway.

Yeah, but New Zealand is a part of the Commonwealth of Australia. They just don't know it yet. Since they have no offensive air force, the plans for annexation - er, I mean, 'reintegration', shall commence momentarily.
