So with the announcement that the new Avengers team will be 18 supers strong, I got to thinking. That's alot of characters and it's a chance for Marvel to use some of their background talent (they won't most likely). Still it brings up an interesting idea. Who would you pick for the 18 member strong Avengers?

Dr. Druid should definitely be revived to lead them.
Seriously though, if he wasn't off doing his own thing (and I don't even know if they've brought him back from The Thanos Imperative, but I'd love to see some more Peter Quill.
I definitely want Quicksilver in the mix. They've managed to make him such a compelling asshole the past few years.
Man, it's hard to think of names that haven't been sucked into teams lately. But then I'm also a few months behind on current events.

Let's not worry about current events because frankly... They suck.
No Captain America or Iron Man Tev?

Cap and Iron Man are a must, as is Thor. Wasp and whatever name Dr Pym chooses to go by at the time.Vision and the Scarlet Witch. Wonder Man. Quicksilver. Hawkeye. She-Hulk.
Honestly, I don't think I can come up with 18 members that were consistent Avengers. Spidey was never more than a reserve member, and The Other Guy was an Avenger on-and-off.

good lord, 18 strong?
Are they planning on rebuilding the 1980-90's Avengers which had pretty much everyone in it?

No picks DS? Tell you what guys I'll make an suggestion. First let me explain the guiding ideas behind my picks.
My thought is as a Team the Avengers should serve 3 purposes.
1: To tell really awesome stories of superheroes interacting and fighting as a team.
2: To showcase some of Marvel's big boys (Thor, Cap, etc)
3: To bring attention to lesser known heroes and develop them as characters and hopefully building up fan followings for these characters.
To that end, I divide the Avengers into two teams.
Team 1
1: Captain America
2: Captain Marvel
3: Iron Man
4: Thor
5: Hulk
6: Wasp
7: Ant Man/Giant Man
8: Black Widow
9 Hawkeye
Team 2:
1:
Patriot
2: Power Man
3:
Jewel
4:
Hulking
5:
Ultra Girl
6: Falcon
7:
Quake
8: Hercules
9:
Mockingbird
There were alot of other interesting characters I didn't put on the list (my apologies to Spiderwoman). Power as you can guess isn't an issue (if this was about raw power, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Falcon and Mockingbird would have to go). This was more, what would make for interesting relationships and work well in the field. Team 1 is made of people used to working together, well skilled and practiced and so on. That team is a fucking machine. Team 2 is more varied. You got seasoned vets in Jewel, Power man and Falcon. New talent that is just about ready for prime time in Quake, Patriot and Hulking. Ultra Girl is pretty damn raw but she can catch up. Mockingbird is a special case, being a vet but also having been out of the game for awhile.
In the over all view, I have one married couple, a number of tight friendships (Cap and Falcon for example), rivals (looking at you Thor and Herc) and two ex-couple (or have wasp and pym gotten back together?). You also have the potential for some new solid relations, such as between Ultra Girl and Captain Marvel or well anyone really.
This group also lets you face a huge range of foes. You want an epic war of massive powers, they can do that. A sneaky subtle fight of knives, they can do that and so on.

To be honest, i'd have to look over the Marvel Roster again to see who is still technically a good guy and whose a bad guy
Cause I'd want to put Magneto in one of the teams....but I don't know if he's working for the good guys or bad guys at this point.

Yeah, I was going with additions.
Cap and Iron Man have to be somewhere on the Avengers. I actually like Thor better solo than on a team. Hawkeye is about as fundamental an Avenger to me as the big three, so he's definitely got to be somewhere. I'd want Hawkeye leading a team, because it always creates interesting conflicts with him having to reign in his hotheadedness and be responsible.
Magneto is definitely an interesting option, and wherever he is on the good guy/bad guy thing right now can be changed with a simple polarity reverse.
(Heh.)
I like Luke Cage being on a team, definitely.
Y'know, an Avengers International could be an interesting concept too. Based in Europe or whatever, and they could be a globetrotter team. Now I'm just getting off the rails into fanboyism, though.

Also have to include Luke Cage/Powerman
Black Panther
Dr Strange
White Queen/Emma Frost (The team needs a good psychic)

Knowing Strange, he'd be the 19th member that
none of the other eighteen know about.

Even though a whole team meets at the Sanctum Sanctorum, which they think is a rental mansion.
