#1 Sentimental Songs

Post by Something Awesome »

What songs hold a special place in your heart because of their relation to a happy memory, a special someone, and all that? The song might not necessarily be a "good" song, but it's good to you because of the memory it invokes.

For me, The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" is the anthem of this summer for me and my friends, thanks to late night drives while blasting 80's songs.

Ditto for Journey's "Don't Stop Believin,'" but it's limited to just a few of us, rather than the whole crew.

Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" was the favorite song of someone.

Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" reminds me of my old Calc teacher, as well as Worms 2 with Adam.

Yellowcard's "One Year, Six Months" was sang at my Senior Class Day by my three best friends. 'Nuff said.

Straylight Run's "Existentialism on Prom Night" was last summer's anthem.

Don McLean's "Vincent" is special to me and my best(est) friend.

Bad Religion's "No Control" reminds me of last winter and aforementioned bestest friend, when we bought the album and it was often played in the car, during trips to Taco Bell.

I know no such songs. However, if you ask for a 'mellow' song, then there it is:

Chicane - No Ordinary Morning

If there was nothing that I could say
Turned your back and you just walked away
Leaves me numb inside I think of you
Together is all I knew

We moved too fast but I had no signs
I would try to turn the hands of time
I look to you for a reason why
The love we had passed me by

And as the sun would set, you would rise
Fall from the sky into paradise
Is there no light in your heart for me
You've closed your eyes, you no longer see

There were no lies between me and you
You said nothing of what you knew
But there was still something in your eyes
Left me helpless and paralysed

You could give a million reasons change the world and change the tides
Could not give me the secrets of your heart and of your mind
In the darkness that surrounds me now there is no peace of mind
Your careless words undo me, leave the thought of us behind
You could give a million reasons change the world and change the time
Could not give me the secrets of your heart and of your mind
In the darkness that surrounds you know there is no peace of mind
Your careless words undo me, leave the thought of us behind

So be it. If saying "NO" means being alone, then to hell with love, with romance, with marriage, and all the shit life keeps pumping at me. I'll walk alone, but with freedom and a healed pride.

From the days when Nitram was traveling from CT to spend a week with me. "One More Day" by Diamond Rio
One More Day

Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
Or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished, for one more day with you

One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you

First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl
Then I'd unplug the telephone
And keep the TV off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million I love you's
That's what I'd do, with one more day with you

One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you

Leave me wishing still, for one more day
Leave me wishing still, for one more day

She wants reveng: "Out of Control" Rukia sent me this song when we first started talking just because she thought I might like it since then it has become the ring tone for when she calls me and yeah it allways makes me think of her.

"Dead Body man" by ICP, every time I hear it I smell Pizza and think of playing Asheron's Call with my friends in high school.

Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata, That song, no matter when or where will make me stop dead and think. about everything. especially the things I miss and love.

ICP - Homies, and most of their music really. Makes me remeber (and miss the hell outta) my friends and highschool. And all that crazy shit.

Flogging Molly, any song, Different memories of friends and highschool times, more for the good and the bad contrasting memories.

That is all I can think of at this moment because I have this song stuck in my head. Damn good in my opinion, but stuck damn well none the less.
"Sir, are you classified as human?"
"Negative, I am a meat popsicle."

Diddy - Last Night Makes me think of my boi...

[Diddy]
Last Night
(Last Night)
I Couldn't Even Get An Answer
(Answer, Answer, Answer)
I Tried To Call
(I Tried To Call)
But My Pride Wouldn't Let Me Dial
(Dial, Dial, Dial)
And I'm Sitting Here
(Sitting Here)
With This Blank Expression
(Expression, Expression, Expression)
And The Way I Feel (Way I Feel)
I Wanna Curl Up Like A Child (Child, Child)

I Know U Can Hear Me
I Know U Can Feel Me
I Can't Live Without You
God Please Make Me Better
I Wish I Wasnt The Way I Am

[Keyshia Cole]
If I Told You Once,
I Told You Twice
You Can See It My Eyes
I'm All Cried Out
With Nothing To Say
Your Everything I Want It To Be
If You Could Only See
Your Heart Belongs To Me
I Love You So Much
I'm Hurting For Your Touch
Come And Set Me Free
Forever Yours I'll Be
Baby Won't You Come
And Take This Pain Away

[chorus]
Last Night (Last Night)
I Couldn't Even Get An Answer (Answer)
( You Said You Couldn't Get An Answer Baby )
I Tried To Call (I Tried To Call)
But My Pride Wouldn't Let Me Dial (Dial)
( But That Should Never Stopped You )
And I'm Sitting Here (Sitting Here)
( Sitting There )
With This Blank Expression (Expression)
( I'll Be With Ya My Baby )
And The Way I Feel
( Way I Feel )
I Wanna Curl Up Like A Child (Child)

I Need You
And You Need Me
This Is So Plain To See
And I Would Never Let You Go
And I Will Always Love You So...I Will
If You Could Only See
Your Heart Belongs To Me
I Love You So Much
I'm Hurting For Your Touch
Come And Set Me Free
Forever Yours I'll Be
Baby Won't You Come
And Take This Pain Away

[chorus]
Last Night (Last Night)
( Oh Last Night )
I Couldn't Even Get An Answer (Answer)

This Is So Plain To See ( Oh )
And I Would Never Let You Go
And I Will Always Love You So...I Will
If You Could Only See ( Only See )
Your Heart Belongs To Me ( Heart Belongs To Me )
I Love You So Much ( Oh )
I'm Hurting For Your Touch ( Oh )

Why Don't You Pick Up The Phone
And Dial Up My Number
And Call Me My Baby
I'm Waiting On You

And Dial Up My Number
Just Call Me Up Baby
I'm Waiting On You

If he should be called to duty I will wait for him standing tall, for he is my soldier, my hero, after all.

Maple Leaf Rag and Khatchaturian's Toccata are both sort of piano-memory songs for me. They remind me of the days when I enjoyed playing the piano more than anything else in the world, back when I was working hard at it and even thinking of going to music school. It gave me more of a sense of direction than I have now. I sort of miss that.

There are also all the songs I sang in high school with a fairly tight-knit singing group, which include the Beatles' Blackbird, Billy Joel's Lullaby, and this amazing song by a Swedish jazz group. The group is The Real Group, and the song is called Chili con Carne. And yes, it really is about making chili con carne. Lots of memories with those songs... like going to some Christmas party when our director had told them we were singing a song we hadn't practiced, so we practically sightread it and botched it completely. Or the couple of weeks we spent in Italy. That was amazing.

Powderfinger's My Happiness is another one that makes me think of my time in Australia the summer after I was in ninth grade. Our tour guide played it every day when we got on the bus, and we hated it at first but loved it by the end of the trip. A couple of people bought the album it was on.

Billy Joel's got this one lesser-known piano instrumental called Root Beer Rag that will always remind me of my brother, who can play it like nobody's business.

There's one song - okay, quite a few songs - that make me think of my ex, specifically Three Doors Down's Here Without You and a couple of Weird Al songs, but that's not really a happy memory. He's an idiot. :D

Any of the songs from Rent remind me of this awesome weekend last winter when I went to see Rent on Broadway with my cousin.

The Beatles' Michelle reminds me of this really amazing girl I know. She's smart and funny and witty and charming... oh wait, that's me.
