"Where have all the Mullets Gone?" otherwise entitled "Rock The Mullet" - musings by the Brat

Cross Posted from my LJ :

I was noticing something the other day when listening to Richard Marx on the radio. Yes, yes, I confess, Richard Marx is asthetically pleasing and was popular when I was between 6th grade and junior or senior in high school. While other kids liked "New Kids on the Block", I liked Richard Marx for my dose of preteen/teen heartthrob crushes. At least as far as music. "Young Guns" pack of "outlaws" was really the source of many a dream for me. But I digress.

So when he came on the radio, I did not change the station. His moody, earthy voice brought back nostalgia. And then I thought of something...

What happened to all these 80s/early 90s stars with Mullets?

Sure we know why the mullet went away; same reason the rattail went away. Frankly, it was a fad, and a little side of rediculous one at that. But it seems when certain stars cut their back locks, they lost their stardom. Coincidence....or conspiracy? Richard Marx cut his locks and had one more song, "Now and Forever", before he fell off the map. "Now and Forever" should have maybe been retitled or thought of as "Now and a Minute or two" in regards to his career. Michael Bolton cut his mullet. Do you believe that? Well you would if he was still popular. "I could have loved you but I lied" has now been replaced by fans everywhere with the tearful ballad "I could have loved you but you cut your hair". What about Billy Ray Cyrus' achy breaky heart? It is aching and breaking. No mullet = no money.

What is the lesson boys and girls?

Dont cut your hair.

:P ~LOL~

"Babies Of The 80's"Something Corporate

I grew up on five-alive
And transformers and slip-n-slide
Toy's R Us and Chuck-e-Cheeze
Disco out and techno in
to synthesize my favorite sin
And here I am on my knees
To get it back again

Babies of the 80's
Little girls in lycra shorts
Tented beds, nerf contact sports
My babies of the 80's
Shout it out just one more time
For the generation that was all mine

We learned to crawl on linoleum floors
Ronald Reagan fought Star Wars
But he'll never be Han Solo
Students march Tianenmen Square
They took him out hey that's not fair
Dad said it's good to be free
As we watched from our T.V.

Babies of the 80's
Little girls in lycra shorts
Tented beds, nerf contact sports
My babies of the 80's
Shout it out just one more time
For the generation that was all mine

We watched the wall fall down
Woke up early for Bozo the clown
MTV and Nick at Night
And I slept for the first time
Without the light
without the light
without the light

(one two one two three go)

My Babies of the 80's
**Little girls in jelly shoes
got the ferris bueller blues**
My babies of the 80's
We'd be something after all
Who knew we would be something after all
Who knew we would be something after all
Who Knew

Cute song, Lin!

I always thought Patrick Swayze looked great with his mullet, even though he didn't make music...
