#1 A forum contest(replacing stars)

Okay, we pretty much can all agree stars suck and need to be replaced.

We're asking you, clever artists of the board, to offer something cool.

Lets see, we had ideas for pentagrams, nipples, penguins, small furry animals, but the field is wild open.

The requirments: Something that can be easily shrunken down, so not alot of detail. If possible, make it allready fit in at 15x15 pixels, otherwise, send it to me and I'll try to work some Paint.Net magic at shrinking it.

That is all, you may poke at me.

I'm rather fond of that pentagram.

I second the Pentagram...

For I'm a supporter of Neopaganism.

Hell yeah, I'd love the pentagram. I fully support the idea. Just flip it upside down, and you're all set. Damn, I'd even like them on my own forum, but I wouldn't know how to do that.

I don't like the pentagram, anymore than y'all would like crosses I think.

I support the nuke.

Crosses aren't cool.

Pentagrams are

And I'm not a neopaganist, I merely support them.

Pentagrams don't look that great. And they aren't that cool to me.

I also never said you were one.

Better than a Nuke... because a pentagram is just an image... a nuke is a weapon of mass murder. And if there's one thing I cannot stand... it's nuke wanking.
I also never said you were one.
Just a clarification. For those whom may have assumed otherwise.

I'm in fact a Taoist... and if anyone can get a Yin-Yang in here... I'll gladly vote on that one.

Ace, Rob, sorry if this gets out of hand but I had to respond to this.

No it's not. It's a moderately powerful explosive. It CAN be used as a weapon for mass murder. So can magic. What did those pentagrams hint at again?
And if there's one thing I cannot stand... it's nuke wanking.
Define nuke wanking, if you please.

Pentgrams are an image that has negative overtones for me.

Nuclear weapons on the other hand kept WWIII from happening. I'm not bubbling over with gratiude and worship for the damn things, but I think it's worth considering that they kept Soviet armies from pouring over Western Europe and NATO armies from pouring into China or other places. Peace is not maintained by good will in most cases but from a balence of terror from my experence.

Also given the way our world (speaking politically here) was created, I can't spurn weapons of mass desturction, for me it would be hypocritical.

While I have nothing against pentagrams, I will observe that for many people they have negative connonations due to their association with Satanism/paganism. This is not really the sort of image we want to present to potential members. A more neutral symbol would be better IMO.

A nuke is cool, but I don't think it really applies. Something like an eight-pointed Chaos star, or an aquila, on the other hand, would be more appropriate given this board's focus on gaming, as well as other similarly scaleable symbols from other games. Perhaps use the aquila (I can see it being difficult to downsize that one) to represent an one-year membership, with another symbol for three-month periods like we currently have our stars denominated.

How about a small crescent moon?

I resized this from the first nice image I found. I don't think it looks too bad, but maybe someone could come up with a better one.

Just a thought.

Pentagrams are positive symbols. It is a mathematically perfect symbol. And for my fellow 40kers, that makes it a nifty anti-Chaos ward.

And frankly, it could be said stars have equally "negative overtones." After all, the five-pointed star (which is technically a pentagram, even) was the symbol of the USSR, which under Stalin committed unspeakable atrocities.

The point is, there is nothing inherently wrong with a pentragrammic symbol in and of itself. Christianity may have slapped it with a bad rep over the centuries, but not only is that reputation unfounded, it still shouldn't really matter.

Agreed. I'll changing my vote to the Chaos symbol if y'all don't like a Pentagram. Besides, Chaos is just awesome.

"Is anyone offended by the star?" *one hand is raised* "Okay, the star goes."

We don't want a star, and we don't want anything offensive, so how about a tiny little pi symbol? It's nerdy, it's as unoffensive as you can get (so long as you're not a stupid Economics prof who insists on using pi as a variable to the great protests of all the engineering students), and it's cooler than just a 2D blob of color.

Is anyone offended by my last statement? *random stupid Economics prof raises his hand* You don't count.

A bit large, but might do for senior members?

The two headed eagle would make a good symbol for the admins if nothing else I would say.

Seconded. Change the color to something gold-looking and it'd be near perfect.
That being said, assuming we're still talking about a replacement for the stars as a representative of temporal seniority I'm afraid it's quite simply too wide.

Is it possible to change the symbol rather than add an identical symbol? I would rather like the idea of something that changes as you go on in time; my initial idea was to use military ranks, but then again this is more of a fantasy/sci-fi forum, isn't it?
