#1 Help the Cute Kitty with a custom avatar.

Post by Cynical Cat »

I am somewhat lacking in the elite haxxor skill department and I am rectifying my deficiency bit by bit.

That said, I want to find pics for use as an avatar and learn the how to make one.

Any help would be appreciated.

As a side note, the pics I'm conidering are cats and Imperial Inquisitors.

Y'know, thinking of you as cute makes me twitch and shudder a lot.

But then, I consider the Bride of Satan and understanding dawns.

Anyway, if you want to Google about for some images, I can trim them for you. My weak Photoshop-Fu is generally up to that task.

My shop fu is non existent. I'm trying to develop some, so any pointers or suggestions on how to go about it is appreciated. I would like to progress from non-existent to feeble.

What software are you using?

Apparently between my brother and I we have no image modifying software. I sense a bottleneck? Any recommendations for the budget concious?

MS Paint can do the basic job. You could also try the shareware version of ACDSee, which only does the most basic of image modification (resizing and file conversion) but it's also the best image viewing software around.

And you can try Google Image search for hunting up the images. With most programs, resizing is an easy process.

bittorrent? :p

all joking aside, GIMP is probably right up your alley.

I just happen to have a graphic designer in the family... photoshop and all macromedia software = free for me. woo!

You may want to take a look at PaintShop Pro, too.

That's a kick-ass quote on the banner.

I recommend and use the GIMP for manipulation and artistic creation, and then IrfanView for cropping / saving my images. The GIMP is free and has all the features of Photoshop. Irfanview is also free and is excellent at saving your images in small files to beat those pesky avatar size limits. Its the program of choice for making an avatar from any image.
