A 'touchy-feely' CNN reporter, while interviewing a Marine sniper asked, "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist."
The Marine shrugged and replied, "Recoil?"

Perhaps the urge to puke, if you're using that gun and you're close enough, and you're new.

If you're close enough what's the point of using that gun? In fact if your shooting an inidivdual terrorist what's the point of using that gun, period?

Because a batarang would be ineffective?*wink*

Hey, they work OK for me
A sniper rifle? Of course, but
that one? I know there's no such thing as overkill but if there were, for killing individual people that gun would be pretty close.

Well, what else are you going to do with it? It's a sniper rifle, not a machine gun.

Technically it's an anti-materiel rifle. You're supposed to shoot
equipment with it, not people. Unless there's a
serious range issue an M24 or M40 ought to do just fine.

Poisoning people at sniper rifle ranges is going to take some doing (or WMDs)

Part of the problem is dropping people. Some of these targets have a marked tendency to be drugged up. In some cases it has been reported that a single target absorbed an entire magazien from an M16-A2 and remained on the move and fighting. However, no one and I mean on one this side of God can just shrug a hit from that rifle. If it hits you, you will fall down.

So you will from a 7.62x51 hit, especially a JHP. Part of the problem with 5.56x45 is that the standard load is pseudo-AP as it was designed with body armor in mind so it'll just drill through an unarmoured human and go its merry way without transferring much of its energy to the target. The guy will bleed to death eventually but for the time being he can still shoot back.
Which isn't exactly a concern for a sniper. Plus, 7.62x51 has roughly twice the muzzle energy of an M16, and the sniper can go for semi-aimed shots.
Sorry, but for individual human targets .50BMG would be overkill if there were such a thing.

I should point that the Gulf does use 7.62 ammo and still there are reports of targets taking mulitple hits. The problem is simply that they're are in a mental state of sheer delusion in regards to personal danger and injury. It takes that much overkill to put down and ensure a clean kill in the case of a sniper.
With the Gulf being a machine gun, it's no big deal, it's design to spit out a large amount of rounds in a minium of time. Sniper rifles tend to be bolt action and not capable of spraying several hunred rounds per minute.
