Quite a few people here know of the pending movie due out in the summer of next year. I found out last night from DS that apparently my air base supplied a plane to do this. Apparently a member of SDN, a fellow flightline monkey, already took pics. Sadly these were very low quality and grainy at best. So me, being the heroic and fearless person I was faced possible arrest and UCMJ action to bring you these pictures taken fresh from the flightline this morning with my 5mp camera. Narrowly avoiding arrest from a pair of SPs who stopped me for taking pictures I stole away quickly into the rising dawn to post these to the web.

And yes..I came.

I wonder which Decepticon that is....

actually from reports I've read... it's not.

It's a decepticon allied military unit flown by humans in the movie.

And it's suppose to appear in a battle with scorponok so beats the hell out of me... Unless it's another of Starscream's attempts as domination.

Also, rumor has a mh-53 from my base also in the movie, so next week I'll journey over to the helo side of the flightline and see if I can't find some pictures...

Yeah. Pardon me while bile rises in my throat.
I'm not suggesting panning the movie over this, in real life both sides would have found plenty of human allies (factor in Cold War politics or imagine if the Transformers ended up in the Middle East). I just wanna know what is going on?

It's just making me leery that this'll turn out to be a humans-guest-starring-the-Transformers movie. It COULD be done intelligently, but this is a Hollywood movie. A summer Hollywood movie. A Micheal Bay summer Hollywood movie. Expectations are not high.

I think you need to realize that there have always been humans in transformers and there will always be humans in transformers. It takes place on a planet with over 6 billion of them after all and it might be a trifle hard to make a movie without showing the human reaction. In fact a movie that ignored humanity's actions/reactions to the Cybertronian Wars would be unrealistic and not worth watching.

Or in short, relax and unwad your shorts.

I never said the movie should be devoid of humans or their reactions to the situation, I just said that due to Hollywood's tendancy to fuck things like this up I was inclined to be pessimistic about the film.

Guess you never read the novels PCM. In the novels Starscream and some other 'cons took over Vegas, established a military and armed/armored them with advanced cybertronian tech. Even established transformer-grade defenses around the city. And oddly enough, in the novles the people were fine with it. Starscream became king but business for the most part, went on as usual. It's not that hard to believe that a military unit under some particularly war-loving general would turn to the side of the cons.

I can practically hear Megatron. "I can provide you with the technology that will enable the US to dominate the world until the days the sun goes dark. I can give you the means to go to the stars. In return all I ask for is a few supplies, a reasonable portion of your great energy resources, and some help with a building project."

Yes. Yes. Lovely. It's logical, it could be marvellous if done right. Except, as I've already said, this is a Hollywood Summer Blockbuster. If someone here wants to say that Hollywood Summer Blockbusters have a reputation for being intelligently written and true to their source material, I haven't had to opportunity to laugh in someone's face for a LONG time.

Is that really Megatron's sytle though? From everything I've seen, he doesn't make a deal when he can just take what he wants. Hell he didn't make a deal when he was fighting against near equal forces on Cybertron, choicing instead conquest or death...

I agree, G1 Megs isn't a deal-maker. Shockwave, maybe. It'd be entirely logical. But G1 Megs? No.

Why does everyone always act like G1 Megs is some insane stupidly evil villian? He's not. He's more then capable of manipulation. Hell most of his failures are easily chalked up to the likes of Starscream and co. I could easily see him, under the proper circumstances of course, doing something like this.

No one called him stupid. But the fact stands that Megatron has more in common with Gengis Khan (who also was not stupid, one does not conqear massive streaches of Asia through stupidity) then he does with Henry Kissenger.

In other universes Megatron continually disdained making deals with human governments, seeing that as beneath him and prefering to depend on military methods to achieve goals. As you yourself pointed out he could have repeatly achieved those goals if not problems within his command sturcture.

I grant that he chose not to, but he has manipulated and conned people and beings before for his own agenda.

He has used humans, occassionally, in the series(g1 tv and g1 comic american) to his own devices. A few scientists mostly but he could have gone further with it.

I just don't like people dismissing him out of hand as a bloodthirsty warmonger. He had a bit more to him then that, though most people don't seem to ever think so.

He used indivduals and rarely. The sheer fact is he never made a deal with a human organization or government and seemed disincline to do so prefering to use military force.

And... HE LED A GROUP OF TRANSFORMERS IN THE BLOODY OVERTHROW OF A PEACEFUL GOVERNMENT, OF COURSE HE'S A WARMONGER!

Yes, but he's not a blood-thirty one. That implies a total lack of control or reason, of which megatron had buttloads of both.

Funny I would never say bloodthristy meant a lack of control. Just meant a desire to kill alot of your enemies.

I've always associated the word with a more mindless state of being where it's not so much wanting to kill as needing to, almost a savage like state.

I never said I believed Megatron would keep his word. Tricking some humans into fighting the Autobots and providing him with energy and then screwing them over is right up his alley.

To me, that's more of the BeastWars Megatron than the G1. Personally, I found BW Megs far more intelligent about his plans.

One must wonder about his habit of conversing with himself...
