Part of what made Clash of the Titans so good -- it was one of the last movies to use Stop-Motion for the monsters.
Yes, it looks a bit cheesy now, and you can see where the live actors and the monsters are off .. but then, it was a triumph of Harryhousen's art.

I don't think this new film will diminish Harryhousen's contribution to cinema. The fact Clash of the Titans was quite good (least I remember it being good when I watched it as a kid) is probably why it's being remade with today's special effects.
Plus Sam Worthington is a damn good actor. And Aussie to boot.
