I'm thinking I shall go with a lion's head for my anima banner. With the colouration and mane it has a bit of a sunburst motiff already and it has aspects of courage, hunting, and being a pack leader. Do you need any other major elements for the anima banner, or would that be enough for you?

So did I hit with my single attack? Did I parry the last blow to me and counterattack? Did that push my essence expenditure up into the 'anima banner' range?

Notes to rhoenix:
a) the cloud is not incorporeal, it's just very fluid and not sensitive to hacking and slashing (or even nonmagical attacks*)
b) AN's character is on a boat, at least several hundred yards away from the riverbank
*Excellencies don't count as magical attacks in my book, it'd have to be a Supplemental/Simple Charm, or a Reflexive that has a special effect upon hitting the target (like Hungry Tiger Technique), but merely augmenting your prowess with Essence doesn't cut in.

What a mess, I just realized I didn't note the damage inflicted to the nemissaries (or I lost that post somewhere). I totaled up to IIRC 4 levels, two levels, four levels.
Anyway, you just inflicted 9 levels of damage to an already wounded nemissary, so it's a fair bet to say that he just blew up.
A wounded nemissary wounded you.
Another wounded nemissary just inflicted you 1 lhl, and the new third another lhl.
Your Solar counterattack inflicted 5 lhls on the already wounded one which you parried, destroying him.
There are two nemissaries remaining onboard, one of which has already taken 2 lhls.

The Nomad knows what ridiculously stupid act I am trying now, let's just hope my wounds don't impair me too much, I believe I'm only at -1 penalty at the moment, but even if I'm at -2 I still feel confident I can pull this off about half the time. And you did apply the penalties to the nemissaries attacks, right?
EDIT: And the bonus to my lethal soak against creatures of darkness from my caste ability?

As far as I am aware of, any sort of charm is a "magical" attack as even burning one mote of essence in an excellency to improve your DV is enough to give you the ability to block/defend against something like blazing solar bolt according to the white wolf forums. what is the justification for you choosing to not allow it? Is it a matter of personal preference or a house rule of some kind? The Nomad wrote:Notes to rhoenix:

Moreover, to supplement Marcao's question, Kolth still has the First Martial Arts Excellency active.

No, no, I meant the 3 lethal soak I get against creatures of darkness in addition to the minimum number of attack dice as part of my caste ability. The glow around me affects both my offence and my armour.

I house-ruled it on my tabletop game, to make the DB perfect parry and stuff like BSB a little more useful. Excellencies don't "magick up" your blade, so to speak, they simply magically increase your skill. In D&D, it's like the difference between an alteration bonus and an insight bonus.Marcao wrote: As far as I am aware of, any sort of charm is a "magical" attack as even burning one mote of essence in an excellency to improve your DV is enough to give you the ability to block/defend against something like blazing solar bolt according to the white wolf forums. what is the justification for you choosing to not allow it? EDIT: also, I based this on Storyteller's Companion p. 94: Excellencies affect only the Exalt, not his gear. While it would likely permit the Exalt to dodge BSB since the dodge affects the Exalt, I'm considering that it's a simple boost of accuracy, speed, etc., so BSB would still be undodgeable due to its sheer power. Dodge can already counter Ebon Lightning Prana with Reflex Sidestep Technique while Melee can't, no need to give it other advantages.

Interesting. If it is a house rule and this i the way you want to play it, I will go along ith it. It does remove a great deal of the power of the excellency and makes it so that it is unlikely I will pick any more "combat" excellencies in this game. Basically, with this setup excellencies are relatively worthless on their own and useful only in a combo. *shrug* The boost to BSB is nice, since by the "normal" rules it is absolute crap compared to the all mighty ebon lighting prana. The Nomad wrote:I house-ruled it on my tabletop game, to make the DB perfect parry and stuff like BSB a little more useful. I find it amusing however, that we ganked an abyssal 4 on 1 and failed. And now, are apparently going to have a bitch of a time against a spell. This mission is going to end up an utter failure.

There is that. However, oh sneaky solar cloaked in shadows beneath the grace of the sun. A ship is easily replaced and Yvela has no desire to plow these waters for the rest of his days seeking such an elusive prey.rhoenix wrote:Well, not an utter failure. So you're saying Kolth should start keeping score?Marcao wrote:There is that. However, oh sneaky solar cloaked in shadows beneath the grace of the sun. A ship is easily replaced and Yvela has no desire to plow these waters for the rest of his days seeking such an elusive prey.

After a talk with my tabletop players, I've decided that attuned weapons made of the magical materials would count as "magical attacks" in most cases, so I've abridged the fight with the cloud, since you should have destroyed him with your previous attacks anyway.
I also shortened the fight with the nemissaries to move the story on. Time for resuming (or starting) good RP!
Kolth, Teamhair, Yevela and Orduin all get 15 XP.
Ake gets 5 XP.
A few more points are to be handed for roleplaying Ake's arrival and integration.

I hope you don't mind if I embellished things a little from your description, I wanted to make sure that stunt was as spectacular as possible.

Of yeah, I just mean that I'm no longer pumping peripheral essence into my anima banner and causing quite the same glow. It'll take about two hours to cool everything down fully.

Hrm.
Risk waiting for 2 more XP before the next notable combat, or abandon the plan that had been in the works?
Actually.. I'll need more than 2. Unless the ST has houserule'd the 'Once you have a combo, you may never, ever improve it.' thing.
