Doran's sensitive weasel ears flattened against his head as the wave of sound passed over him, rupturing blood vessels and attempting to daze him, but despite the horrific damage he moved his paws forward, scrabbling for traction as he rushed the beast. Leaping out, jaws flashing, he attempted to get a good solid lock on the creature, but his teeth just scrabbled across its rubber, leather hide.

Saidin leaned against the tree, blood trickling from his ears. He had been spared the worst of the sonic blast, but it had been bad enough. Snarling he focused his hate and drew upon the endless fury and malice that was inextricably linked to his magic and added to it the deadly power of his gauntlets.

A bolt of scarlet flames left his hands and struck the monster at the base of her throat, blowing through tough hide and incinerating soft tissue. Flesh charred and blood boiled. The monster took a step, uttered a hideous burbling croak, and fell.

Volans turned into a tight spiral and hit the ground softly

"Alright... how about we see what is in its lair, and then head to our good and proper destination yes?"

Holstering his crossbow, Eddie stepped out of the undergrowth right next to Volans and fell in step with him.

Shifting back to his original form, the wounds fading from his body as it happened, Doran looked about at the others and asked, "Before we go anywhere, who needs healing?"

Gror shook his head to try and shake off the ringing in his ears. "Aye," he said to Doran, "But I kin handle it." His right gauntlet began to glow blue as he touched it to his bleeding ears. The shock of the sonic blast soon disappeared. "Right. Anyone else?"

"Me," said Saidin, staggering out from behind the battered tree. He almost fell. "My balance is fucked."

"Aye, that sounds aboot righ'," the dwarf said as he walked towards the sorcerer. "Hold still an' we'll clear tha' up." His hand glowed with the blue light again as he touched it to Saidin's injuries, but it flickered out before they fully healed. "Blast," he said. "Migh' want t' get Mr. Tentacles o'er there t' help ye oot; I'll be a minute."

"My ears are ringing a bit, but I'm alright." Eddie replied as he lifted a whistle and gave it 2 short blasts, barely audible to those around him. Shortly after his dog bounded up and stopped next to Eddie, tongue lolling from it's mouth. "There's a good boy."

Shaking his head as he got to his feet, the Goblin looked around him, obviously not quite believing his eyes. The still, and bloodied figure of the huge creature didn't so much as twitch now, being ripped and blasted apart nearly before his eyes.

After a few moments though, he faced the travelers with a grin. "This place is safe, now. Ruins of castle straight north from here, if you go. I stay, bury the brave who don' move no more."

With that, he solemnly began burying his companions, one by one. He said a few quiet words over each grave as he finished, before solemnly moving onto the next.

Volans and the Lizard proceeded to take a few minutes while the others were recouperating to rummage through the creature's lair. He got everything into a pile.

He separated everything out by type , 3 rings, 2 potions, 3,551 gold pieces, 1 longsword, 1 belt, 1 pair of gauntlets, 3 books.

He then muttered a single word

"Zaubererblick" and suddenly anything magical would be illuminated, and with a bit of careful discerning, the relative strength of any magical aura, and the school or schools of magic involved.

"Well the money is not magical... But who says it needs to be?" he said to himself.

He quickly set aside 1 potion

"Cure serious wounds"

The guantlets he set aside.

"Guantlets of Heartfelt Blows"

the ring he set down on the guantlets

"moderate ring of protection"

He looked at the book and practically squeed.

"And a Magebook... " he set it aside, this was HIS. Not like anyone else would use it anyway.

That left three things. The potion, which gave off a benign necromancy aura. It was probably also healing, the fact that it looked identical to the healing potion was rather telling, he just couldnt tell for sure.

The ring was also identical to the other and had an abjuration aura, which probably also means a second ring of protection.

The belt. Faint transmutation. Which probably meant one of two things. An increase to a physical attribute such as strength, fortitude or reflexes, or a cruel cosmic joke.

"Oh compatriots! We have magic items! If people are injured I have healing potions with your names on them, as well as at least one ring of protection and gauntlets of heartfelt blows. Saiden, if I could get your expert eye for a couple of these? I am unsure as to their function" he said pointing to the pile of not conclusively identified items he had created

"There is also money. A fair amount of it, unenchanted I am afraid."

He then proceeded to carefully open the Magebook, to see if there were spells inside, and gather up the other books.

Going over to Saidin, Doran clapped his hands together while praying, "Nature in all of your glory please make whole upon your child what has been rent asunder."

He then placed a lightly glowing hand upon Saidin's shoulder and the energy discharged into the mage, knitting up internal wounds caused by the sound blast. Not everything was cured, but Doran guessed that perhaps half the damage was undone.

Looking at him, Doran asked, "Will that be enough or shall I go an attend to the others who need me?"

Waving away the help that Doran was going to provide, Eddie pulled out a wand pointed it at himself and muttered the activation phrase "Ventas Servitas." A soft blue nimbus surrounded his body for a moment and when it was gone the ringing in his ears was gone as was the splitting headache he had. "Ah, much better. So Mr. Mage, anything I might find useful in there?" Eddie walked over to Volans and looked over the loot.

"Rings of protection and mystery belt perhaps? Gror will get the guantlets... But the belt I imagine will either increase a physical attribute or turn you into a woman. Either way it might be an improvement"

Chuckling, Eddie took another look at the pile. "You know what? I think I'm good, you guys need this stuff more than I do. Afterall, if I'm getting hit then I'm not doing my job now am I?" With a wink Eddie walked back over to his dog and began checking over his equipment for signs of wear and tear.

"Thanks," said Saidin. He meant it. They had almost made up for their annoying bullshit in the tavern.

"A ring of protection? That would be most useful as there is a disconcerting habit for healers to get shot at with frightful frequency. Still, does anyone else require healing? I still have a few spells of flesh mending left for the day, although they are of lesser efficacy than the one already used," Doran asked while looking over the others, including the goblin tending to his fallen comrades.

The goblin straightened, having placed the last stone over the last of the graves. He faced away from the group, seemingly staring off further into the forest. When he spoke, he spoke in an unexpectedly serious tone.

"Dey were young, but dey had promise - dey coulda been warriors, or more. We may be goblins, but some of us still remember da old ways, when da Long Patrols were still active. But," he said, looking over at the graves, "we forget so easy. None of da new generation knows what its like to fight with honor, dere parents forgot afore they did - only we old-timers remember now."

He looked back at Doran, and bowed formally. "Ah thank ye, but I'm fine. We'd best go when you're ready."

"The identification of these I imagine can wait until I obtain the proper pearls" the wizard said as he gathered up the belt and the extra ring

Gror smiled. "I'll take wha' I kin get." He took the gauntlets and set about removing his own to exchange them.
