"Yeah, that's what you said and I dropped you here. Right there buddy," he said pointing.

Helen was standing quitely in the corner.

[Josh]

"Hey, Wright here. You mighta heard that there's been some unpleasantry between me and O'Bannion's people. I wanna clear the air and maybe get this over with without having to bury any more of his people."

[Cynical Cat]

"Yeah, we heard. Apparently you're hooked up with that asshole Marcus."

[Bratty]

She smiles and descends the stairs. Greeting people along the way, "hobnobbing", she eventually makes her way to Helen's corner.

Helen nodded politely to Cassie and took a pull of her drink.

[Bratty]

Cassie leans against a corner near Helen. "Hey girl," She greets. "Glad to see you made it out alive. Mind if I join you?"

[Josh]

"Hey, he's not in my operation. We just have some mutual interests."

Okay, the Freak had managed to piss off the Gennas too...

And it was true, because he'd offered the Freak his chance to partner in, and the asshole had gone all aloof and declined him, so fuck him.

"Anyway, I got my turf. I'm happy with it. I'm not looking to muscle on anybody else's turf. But his people have come at me and mine twice now, and twice they come up short. Meantime, they've lost a warehouse and bar. I'd rather cool things down now before I really start having to get fucking unpleasant, y'know?"

... "Aha." Confused for the moment, he leaves the money with the driver, 'incentive' and all, and slides from the taxi. This is one of those 'happenin' hot spots?' Well, he smooths out his coat and makes his way through the door, greasing the necessary palms to expedite his descent into the 'night life.'

[Cynical Cat]

"Why are coming to us to talk peace? What's in it for us?"

[Charon]

Marcus looked up at the sign of someone coming. His hand strayed to the machete briefly until they passed by. He sniffed the air after them, the scent of death. "Great, more trouble. Hell with it."

[Cynical Cat]

Holden descends into a carnival. Jazz is blaring from a stage where a light skinned coloured woman is belting it out, backed by a full band. Scantily clad waitresses hustled around with trays full of drinks. Liquor was flowing, music was playing, laughter was booming out, and a good time was being had by all.

[Cynical Cat]

"Go ahead and make yourself comfortable," responded Helen. "Just another slave in the pen."

[Bratty]

"What do you mean by that?" She asks Helen. She studies the woman. Every feature, her expression, she is trying to find an answer. Something, somewhere will give it to her. Maybe she is like her.

Mm, chaos. "The more things change, the more they stay the same." He wades into the throng of bodies and giddiness. Had he a heart, it might have swept him up with it; however, the interest was simply to be around people for the moment, to connect to the styles, the shapes, the voices. Much different from his former home.

He snags a drink at the bar and watches the blondes, the brunettes.. the redheads, who at one time were a weakness for him. The deadness inside made it all the more amusing to him. An era of decadence, and it is all passing before his eyes.

[Josh]

"Because you guys are smart enough to know that a big war isn't good for any of us. I hurt the Mick's people bad enough for Torrio to smell blood, next thing you know it's war for real. You got a vested interest in keeping the peace, so we all can make our dough."

[Cynical Cat]

"Wright owns you like Jason owns me," Helen said. "Like he owns this whole fucking room. Are you fucking blind? He's toying with you."

[Bratty]

"I may be simple, but I ain't a fool. I know," She bites her lip briefly, and feels another pull in her stomach, as her mind moves in the blood again, imagining it pouring over her lips, along her tongue, down her throat.

"Aren't you scared? Why don't you get out?" She asks gently.

[Cynical Cat]

"Fuck that. You bleed O'Banion until he kills you."

[Josh]

Somehow, he was sure the Freak was responsible for this sudden intransigence. That or he'd just been bullshitting that the Gennas' wanted a peace deal.

They were kinda fucking nuts, after all.

"Fine then. No hard feelings. Have a good night," he concluded, hanging up the phone.

He mentally slid the Gennas over to the 'fucks who were on the death list'. Of course, unlike Chicken Boy he wasn't going to stroll into one of their clubs and tell them all about it...

He grinned at the memory before picking up the phone again and dialing straight for the best contact number he had for O'Banion's people.

[Cynical Cat]

"Scared?" Helen said. "Yeah, I'm scared. It won't do me any good. And I love him. Each time he fed me his his-"

"Each time I drank I became closer to him. I can't leave him now." She bolted down the drink and grabbed another. "I'm Jason's now. Nothing I can do about that. But at least my eyes are open."

[Cynical Cat]

"Hello," said a mild voice at the other end of the phone. O'Banion himself.

[Bratty]

"What do you mean, 'your eyes are open'? What...are...we? I mean," she looks from side to side. "I was snapped like a pretzel and in a night and day I could walk again. How is that possible?" Her eyes widened and bewildered, she orders a drink. Helen downing them, it seems like a good idea.

[Charon]

Marcus looked around the area, enjoying the cold night air for the first time in far too long. 'Too much kine activity, what the hell was I thinking.' Marcus headed back inside, his mind cleared again.

[Josh]

"Mr. O'Banion? Wright here. Wanted to talk our little problem over."

If he couldn't finesse those crazy Dagos, maybe he could finesse the dumb fucking Mick.
