#1 New Final Fantasy Game?

Post by LadyTevar »

Trailer for the Game, from GT

Half the fun is naming who the Characters are

The first view of Our Heros: The Warrior of Light (Warrior, FF1), beside Tidus (FF10)
Next seen: Terra (FF6) and OnionKnight (FF3)
Next three: Zidane (FF9), Cloud (FF7), Bartz (FF5)
After the Lightning Strike: Cecil (FF4), Squall (FF8), Ferian (FF2, with the bow on his back)
Random Hero from FF11 MMORPG will be in the game.

The Villains:
Garland (FF1)
The Emperor (FF2)
Cloud of Darkness (FF3)
Golbez (FF4)
X-Death (FF5)
Kefka (FF6. Duh)
Sephiroth (FF7, also Duh)
Ultemecia (FF8)
Kuja (FF9, another DUH)
Jecht (FF10)
Judge Galbranth (FF12, no matching Hero)

For those playing Exalted: This is what Combat should look like.

Actual game play seems to look like a fighting game, not an RPG.

Wow.

That actually made me feel all nostalgic. And yeah, Exalted combat can definitely be like that. Heh.

The combat is what turned me off all of the FF games. I don't enjoy playing spreadsheets (why I didn't really like KOTOR).
Never shall innocent blood be shed, yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river.

The three shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeful striking hammer of god.

How was FinalFantasy gaming a SpreadSheet? I know the need to level up to go further, is that what you're saying?

I see a disappointing lack of FFT characters. And I doubt there will be any in the game, as it seems to me like sometimes they try to ignore FFT ever happened despite it's superior characters and story to most other FF games...

As for this, the fighting looked pretty crazy, but it's also very blatantly what Squarenix has been doing for awhile now, namely cashcowing off nostalgia. I will withhold judgment until I actually see clips of gameplay.

Amen to that. I still need to get that game again.

Yeah - their trend toward flashiness and away from substance in recent times is disturbing. Shiny graphics should accentuate a good game, not be used in place of one.

Turn based combat based on a very obvious dice-roll system bores the living hell out of me.

You just described combat in every RTS and every RPG game out there.

It's not so obvious most of the time. I understand the /rand inherent in every system, but when it's "queue up a move, let it execute, then let the other person go" it feels so stilted that I can hardly stand to finish fights.

Final Fantasy Disidia, for the PSP only.

Also not a fighting gam per-say, if Wikipedia is to be beleived:
Dissidia: Final Fantasy's genre has been described as "dramatic progressive action" and its graphics will be in three dimensions. It will have wireless one-on-one gameplay and fights revolving around the use of individual special skills of characters to do damage to opponents. Players can also customize their characters with equipment.[2]

Character movement is fully functional within the three-dimensional field map. Characters are able to perform special maneuvers using the environment, similar to the Reaction Command gameplay element of Kingdom Hearts II. Traps with a variety of ill effects can be found throughout the gameplay field.

Similar to many fighting games, the aim is for the player to reduce their opponent’s HP to zero. A character's offensive (and, to a lesser extent, defensive) power is shown in numerical form called BP or "Brave Points". Both characters start out with equal BP, and each must steal BP from their opponent by attacking them with the basic "assist attack" to add it to their own total and gain the upper hand. Players can then use the "HP attack" to cause direct damage to their opponent; the higher their BP, the more damage they inflict. A character whose BP have been depleted is forced into "Break mode", where, aside from not being able to cause HP damage, all attacks made against them cause critical damage.

One main gameplay element is the "EX Gauge", which can be filled in a variety of ways, such as inflicting damage on opponents, taking damage from opponents, and obtaining items scattered around the field of play. Once the EX Gauge is filled, the character can enter their "EX Mode", significantly increasing their power and enabling new attacks, including the "EX Burst", an unavoidable special attack similar to the Limit Break gameplay mechanic seen in many games in the series.
