When the combat machine smiles like that, something bad is about to happen...

"Negative, I am a meat popsicle."

No, this is part of him trying to play nice with the party, as per his dreamquest.

That is apparent to us, but they don't know that.

Well Belkar and Haley have just, between them, killed something like thirty members of the thieves guild, and were about to kill two of their highest ranking officials. Following a catastrophe like that, I would assume the guild might decide to play nice.

You'd better believe I would, but I am not, and do not think like, a thief. Regardless, Haley and Belkar can probably keep them in line even if the guild does try to be stupid.

You see this is why Nalifan does the negotiating for our party, not Thiddeus.

Let me get this straight, Belkar was rampaging like Godzilla through Tokyo, Haley had got her groove back on and the Guild was on their heels windmilling to avoid utter annihilation...

And Celia gave them half their money?

...

...

This is one of those Federation negotiation tactic thingies isn't it?

It is strikingly similar to the Federation - Cardassian war.

It's worse than that, I'm afraid. See, Celia specifically promised 50% of EVERYTHING Haley had EVER stolen since leaving the guild.

That includes a now-destroyed black dragon hoard. Meaning she is way into the red for the forseeable future.

My question is who has all the recipts for this stuff. I mean who can really tell EXACTLY how much she stole? Its kinda like anyone who has a tip-based income. You tell the government a reasonable amount to keep them off your back. When in reality you really made out like a bandit and you don't want to pay taxes on it.

Well, Zone of Truth is a second-level Cleric spell, so it wouldn't be too hard for the Guild to figure out if Haley was knowingly holding out on them. Besides, she seems like the type to know exactly how much gold she acquires.

*Snickers* She counts it damn near daily! Of -course- she knows how much.

Because she knows how much she needs to buy her father out of jail.

Paying half her money to the Guild is just not an option, both because of her father and because she doesn't physically have it.

This is gonna get messy.

I think the point was that she was about to incur another very large debt.

And I think the point is, or should be, that she can at any time - how did Vader put it? - alter the deal. She killed them all once, she can do it again.

She had help (from Belkar). Will he be willing to help her again?

Also, 622: Belkar monologue.

That is one nasty dream to have had over and over for such a long time. Small wonder V doesn't want to trance any more.

Ah, he's not power mad. He's PTSDing. That... is a problem. Violence occurs from extreme sufferers something like 9 out of 10 times and it's not the rational controlled violence that adventurers are suppose to do.

Don't annoy the mage when he's trying to get some privacy.

Actually, I didn't notice until now that it's "Bugsby's hand", not "Bigby's hand".

That's the "product identity" thing, obviously.

It seems that Quarr won't take no for an answer, but V is a tough negotiator. But I don't think Rich would be wasting so much time on this if V isn't going to cut a deal at some point.

Or it could be he's trying to redeem V a little in the eyes of the readers. Course the Kobold's predictions make that unlikely, how did that go again folks?

- "How will I achieve complete and total ultimate arcane power?"

- "By saying the right four words to the right being at the right time for all the wrong reasons."

I doubt Quarr is in a position to give quite that much. He may help him on that path to the Dark Side, though. Assuming that the "being" in question is of the Dark Side, but "all the wrong reasons" sort of implies that.
