The heavily lifting being done by a mage. Now that's a shocker.

First, excellently played between the two nobles. It's always nice to have allies who know exactly where they stand.
Second... that Nightmare's last snort was a "Bound ... right. Let it slip in the least, Archmage, and I'll be eating your heart."

She couldn't aim a gun to save her life. Couldn't make the vamps hold still and take it either. That, and the hunter was the Las Vegas homicide detective with the shotgun and license to carry it, and she was not. Vampires are not all-powerful, not even in their own system. One of these sessions I'm going to pull off breaking the Masquerade, preferably by turning over the body of the Prince of Las Vegas to the morgue.Cynical Cat wrote:The heavily lifting being done by a mage. Anyhee, I have to wonder what the point of binding a nightmare is. Sure, they're appropriately evil, but they also fucking suck compared to the power Nalifan and his adversaries sling around. It's like a mid-level character riding a normal horse.

A mage doesn't need a gun to dust a vampire genius. The fact is that you're bragging how badass you are in being able to take down a vamp in order to troll about one of my characters dying and it turns out that you had help from really powerful allies. I've seen junior mages beat Garou in Crinos, hand to hand, unarmed. That you think they need to be good with guns to take out vampires just tells me how little you know about mages.Rogue 9 wrote: She couldn't aim a gun to save her life. I never said that vampires are all powerful. Way to miss the point. I said that bragging about a taking out a vamp when you have a mage helping you is unimpressive. Any mage with Forces 3 is vampire death on a stick.
You know how in 3.5 you can advance the hit dice and template the shit out of something moderately powerful until it's totally badass? Yeah, that. Also the rule with sleight of hand is to distract them with flurishes with the hand that isn't doing the switch. Look, he's got a nice hellsteed. If he could manage a dracolich he would be riding it, right?Anyhee, I have to wonder what the point of binding a nightmare is. Read it again. I expressed happiness that a vampire, being an evil abomination that must be destroyed, is going to be destroyed. I then cracked a joke about wooden stakes and mallets. You and Lady T both said it couldn't be done, I pointed out that yeah, it can, and that my character had help. Then I said the help was a mage. At no point did I say I was particularly badass.
To get it all out on the table, it's a crossover chronicle, involving two mages, a werewolf, and an Immortal (using fan-developed Highlander rules) as well as a Judgment creed hunter. Do Hunters pale next to all that? Of course. But that's not the point. The point is that the destruction of a vampire is a happy occasion. This wasn't about me or my characters until you made it so.
As for the nightmare, they can only advance to 18 HD, and since the one he's riding isn't described as particularly larger than normal, I'm going to go ahead and guess that it isn't. Not that it'll really hurt him when it's swatted like a fly; he doesn't need it anyway. It just seems sort of superfluous.

You were gloating over the death of someone else's character and talking like you could kill them just fine. So you got mocked back, not least for choosing a lousy way of killing a vamp and because your role playing history amply demonstrates that you're entirely unsuited to playing the game in question at all. Then it turns out your "kill" wasn't impressive at all. You want to gloat about other people's characters dying, expect to get at least verbally slapped by them. When your bragging of vampire kills consists of something that your assistant should have been able to do solo, expect to get laughed at and slapped. Don't like it, then don't talk trash about someone's dead character.
A distraction is never superfluous. And you forgot templating. As for the nightmare, they can only advance to 18 HD, and since the one he's riding isn't described as particularly larger than normal, I'm going to go ahead and guess that it isn't. So, other than having set up a nasty little spell that will rot their wangs off... what -will- Nalifan do to these cretins to pay them back adequately for touching His Property.

Ooooooh.... this is not going to end well for several humans.

President Obama. Fuck YEAH!
But it's the snide insults between Starscream and Megatron that really makes this chapter. You don't even have to imply the tone of voice, I hear it in my head, just from reading the words and knowing them so well.

TF: Great backstory on some of the reasons for the war.
Rogue Trader & Nalifan : Ooo... political intrigue. Rogue Trader is getting nicely set up for his departure. Nalifan's little princeling has a more intelligent hand guiding him. I have to wonder about the prince, and who this power behind the throne might be.

I thought Starscream was a scientist before the war?
This also makes me wonder what some of the current Autobots functional at the time felt about it. Some of them are military models, course most are not. I can see some of them supporting it but Prime? Jazz? Not so much.
Then again at the time Prime wasn't exacltly in the big leagues. He was either a dock worker or a librarian depending on who you believe.
I also wonder how those Autobots feel about Prime creating military models like Breakout...

He was, in most sources. However, that doesn't mean he was employed as one in the time directly before the war. His scientific abilities are why he's leading the prospecting team.frigidmagi wrote:I thought Starscream was a scientist before the war?
As I hoped to demonstrate with Wheeljack's attitude, a lot of them aren't too happy with the way things are. Prime et. al. will come to power later in the war, after much of the corrupt leadership has been swept away and war shifts from the oppressed and dispossessed fighting to destroy a corrupt and callous government to idealistic reformers resisting the rise of Megatron's despotic empire. This also makes me wonder what some of the current Autobots functional at the time felt about it. That actually puts more depth on Starscream's character. The sheer level of humiliation he must feel every damn day must be like a cancer in his dark little robot soul. Everytime he sees an autobot scientist or tech must be like rubbing salt into an open wound. He has all the learning they do, all the skills, maybe even the talent... But because he's a mil-bot and they're not, they're in the research labs, universities, etc...He was, in most sources. However, that doesn't mean he was employed as one in the time directly before the war. His scientific abilities are why he's leading the prospecting team.
And he's out in the void looking for rocks for assholes.

Killing her is the first step to many necromantic rituals. I have to wonder which one he'll do. Obviously, shes going to be a messenger to the other tribes, a very nasty warning not to fuck with him.

I like how you've modified Elita-1's time-stop power. While still draining to her, it's showing a lot more flexiblity than "use once and die" as seen in G-1 Cartoon.
