O-Chul has officially gained status on the "Badass of Badasses" list.

See, now would be an ideal time to cast Xykon's Moderately Escapable Forcecage. I suspect that he'll be too overconfident to use it until too late, or will simply not think of it.

This is gonna fucking sting

O-Chul jumps to the top of the badass list... And hacks out a higher niche on the list just so he can step into it and drags V along with him. Damn me but I am impressed with him and V working together.

you know, for a suppossedly Mid-level Paladin, O'chul is the shit...

and for not having any usable Spells left..V just made the best possible move.

Seriously, V may have went a bit far, considering his ego, but I think the time under the Soul Splice may have enlightened him....especially when he got his ass handed to him by Xykon....

I'm betting the spell V cast started with a Ex, and ends with -plosive Rune.

But that'd be a suckers bet for anyone to take.

O-chul is officially "the man" after this little escapade.

When I saw the note V left, I burst out into an evil cackle that scared the cat and had Nit asking what I was looking at. When I asked him if he'd read OOtS today, I could hear the grin in his voice. "oh, yes. That."

Xykon is now officially pissed.

Sad that birdie didn't throw the pretty bauble into the Rift....but by narrative we knew it wasn't going to happen anyway.

I'm sorry V and O'Chul....looks like your both going to become Prisoner First Class....

I foresee upcoming hilarity though, if Xykon is destroyed and forced to regenerate in the sewer.

Going by Start of Darkness, it could have been that the phylactery was about to be destroyed, since that would not have destroyed Xykon - the soul is in his skeletal body, not in the phylactery. Except then he would have been more vulnerable:

"There are no more Horcru... err, phylacteries" <zappo!>

He's probably cast enough abjurations on that thing so that it is practically impossible to locate again by divination.

OK, that was not expected. Which is hardly surprising given that we don't know what the monster is...

Any ideas on that now?

What the bloody hell...

No, I don't know anything that could do that. Except for short-range spells (and the only two I know about swap the places of two different targets, so if it were one of those, something else would have showed up in their places), teleportation spells and effects invariably take the caster with them. The only thing I know of that could do that is wish, and if the MitD has that as a spell-like ability, it narrows down the list considerably...

Well... That means it's even more likely he's an outsider of some sort isn't it? Unless it wasn't the MitD but some outside force at work...

Though I don't post there anymore, I do browse the Giant's forums sometimes. Someone suggested a Pit Fiend, since it has a once-a-year Wish ability, and the Monster's wising doesn't always work.

Although I doubt it. But we have:
  • He's probably supposed to be evil.
  • He has a huge damage reduction (and just magic weapons aren't enough to bypass it).
  • He's immensely strong.
  • He can cause earthquakes by stamping his feet.
  • From SoD: he causes people to become queasy by looking at him - although the goblin family was seemingly not affected.
  • He's not terribly bright, but that might be naivete due to youth.
  • He's medium sized, though see previous point, and the Giant changes sizes of creatures from what they're supposed to be - see goblins.
  • Now it seems he has some kind of Wish ability, though it doesn't always work.

What you're transparently suggesting is impossible; the Snarl is a being of pure chaos that is driven to destroy and utterly unmakes whatever it touches. A child of it is inconceivable. Literally.

Also, it's highly unlikely that Xykon and Redcloak would have recognized it for what it was when they first saw it, since the appearance of the Snarl isn't known to, well, anyone except the gods. Redcloak might know due to the influence of the Crimson Mantle, but Xykon wouldn't.

Besides, he can see the gates when pointed out to him; he just doesn't comprehend what they are.

662 is up.

My, is Xykon pissed. I wonder what he would have done had the phylactery actually been destroyed.

I didn't intend to suggest that the MitD was the child of the Snarl; only that the reasons it couldn't notice the gates might be similar (e.g. it might have been a similar kind of eldritch abomination that would be affected by the gates). In any case, someone on the GitP stated that in War and XPs, Rich Burlew said that the MitD was a creature that he hadn't invented, so it can't be anything to do with the Snarl.

Oh my... Xykon is taking control again. Looks like he got the kick in the pants that would get him moving again.

Poor Redcloak, he's not getting his eye back. But that's a nice threat:
Xykon wrote:If I ever see you with more eyes than assholes, I'll shove one in the other and give your cloak to that hobgoblin
Now that's a threat

Someone mentioned that O'Chul fibbed about destroying the Gate.

664 is (finally) up.

Something tells me that Eugene's decision to spare Roy (or is he sparing V) the report will bite the good guys in their collective butts later.

But, we're one step closer to the end of the arc. :)

I don't know, maybe he'll take Xy's words to heart and learn.

Or maybe Roy is gonna have to slap an elf.

The danger is greater than that. The fiends each get Vaarsuvius' soul for an amount of time equal to the time she held the splice... and get that control at a time of their choosing. The deal did not specify after her death.

They will almost certainly use Vaarsuvius to make a bid to control the Gates.
