So, we have a full draft of the Healthcare legislation out of the House. Here's the Link to various details of legalese. And here is the link to CBO cost-estimate.
Between the 500B savings in Medicare/Medicaid, and a surtax on the wealthiest Americans, it's budget neutral.
'But Wait!' you cry. 'This Surtax. How much? Whose effected?' Fear not, folks, I have the data. 250,000$ in taxable income a year? 1% surtax. 500k? 2%. 1 million or more? Pony up 3% of your taxable income.
Budget Neutral, 97% coverage, what's not to love?

Cynical part of me says "now watch it die and burn and get replaced by something more expensive with less coverage." I'm not hopeful about these things, as there are many people who are intentionally trying to sabotage the program so they can say, "See? Doesn't work!" and permanently kill the idea in the U.S. Kinda like the Californians trying to sabotage their own state, with the inclusion of the stupidity that abets it.

Last I heard they were considering the Clinton plan of fine anyone without coverage... This is certainly an improvement...

In reading an interview with our POTUS recently, he mentioned that he'd changed his mind, and wanted to make health insurance mandatory, with a hardship exemption.
The main reason this makes me nervous is if the Public Option doesn't make it, then all the cackling we'll be hearing is the health insurance companies watching their accounts skyrocket.
