The others were asking useful questions. Kadis kept her mouth shut and listened.

The Adept nods at the Arbites question and turns to manipulate the holo's controls.
"In total there have been five dolls retrieved, two from the same location which you can see marked on the display."

The markings on the map shouted out to her with a pattern. "A figure eight," she murmured, seeing the attacks and the two central Enclaves as reference points. "The bottom tribe ... it was attacked as the fifth target?"

Ferringo briefly glances back at the holo before replying, "the bottom tribe was attacked fourth, with the tribe marked as number one being attacked first and fifth."

"Then they would pass one of the enclaves, on their way to another tribe..." Kyona murmured, her hazel eyes going distant. "Five days travel between tribe and enclave, five days to the next tribe to be attacked..."

"What methods of transportation are available?" asked Kadis.

The Adept pages through his slate briefly before looking at Kadis and answering, "for the tribes and enclaves? Mostly beasts of burden, there is the odd vehicle that they manage to keep running through the use of vegetative processors but chariots, carts and carriages are the norm."
#58
Raltus shifted his stance at the mention of such primitive transportation. "If we are to catch the attackers we will need something faster. Such transportation will be conspicuous, but given the composition of our group..." he waved a hand to indicate himself and the psykers, "blending in would be difficult, if not impossible regardless of our conveyance. Basic maintenance should not be an issue for the duration of our stay."

Ferringo once again consults his slate, "fortunately the traders already posses the transportation you seek. According to my information, your guide possess an Imperial Guard surplus Trogan. By long standing tradition the traders are allowed certain technologies the local population does not have. It will allow you to be relatively inconspicuous as long as you do not do anything to drastic."

"I was asking about the locals," Kadis clarified. "Specifically the targets."

"Ah well", the Adept pauses to adjust his clothing and shift his weight to the other foot. "Mostly the same, beasts, primitive carriages and such. There have been sightings of what have been described as 'steam trucks' by a few of the traders however."
As Ferringo finishes his response, you notice what was obviously once an Imperial Guard cargo trailer being loaded into the lifter through the window.

Her figures itched to play with her cards, to lay out a pattern, to see what could be found. If the mutants had found vehicles from before the war, and found how to make them work, it would explain the 'steam trucks' seen. "If they have trucks, or stolen vehicles, they are more dangerous than we fear," Kyona said, stating the obvious.

"It would seem so," Ferringo replies, he seems ready to say more but is interrupted by a knock at the hatch, followed shortly by a rating who peeks his head in and tells the Adept that the lighter is ready to launch.
"Seems our time is up, I wish you luck and may He watch over you. If you'll follow this gentleman to the shuttle?"
The rating waits long enough for everyone to gather their belongings before leading you into the modest hanger. A small cargo lighter is sitting before the void door, it's rear hatch open. A former Guard vehicle trailer is chained down just inside the hatch and behind are several dozen crates marked with weapons and ammunition descriptions, beyond those is a personnel hatch, through which are visible twin rows of seats upholstered in battered leather with thick restraint straps.

Raltus took note of the weapon crates and addressed the rating. "Are those for us?"

The rating is a bit startled that the Tech-Priest bothered to address but replies quickly, "Maybe, most of that is for the locals. Blackpowder stuff and all but the traders often get stuff for themselves. Some of those crates were a bit heavy for muskets and powder."

After thanking the Adept for his assistance, and asking for a copy of all the data to be downloaded to his, and the tech-priest's dataslates, Severus walked to the hanger with the others.
"Any chance to score some lho-sticks before we drop?" he asked the rating.

"Please do not smoke," Kadis asked mildly. It wasn't just that the weakness of the habit disgusted her, but the smoke they produced was unpleasant especially in a confined space.

The rating glances between the two, clearly trying to decide who would be the least likely to kill him if he refuses. Finally he shrugs and tosses Severus a pack that he fished out of his uniform before leading the rest into the lander and making sure everyone is strapped in.
He takes a seat at the end of the aisle, closest to the hatch and is quickly joined by another rating who seals it after he enters.
There is a series of bangs, bumps and grumbles as the lighter seals itself and the void bay doors open. Followed shortly by the unsettling feeling of null gravity.

Nervously strapping in at the very back of the drop ship such that the only thing behind him was a solid bulkhead, Serghar waits for everyone else to join. He knows what will come next, but he cannot overcome it even with mental preparation. The sensation of the drop is immediately too much for Serghar and he loses the contents of his stomach, mostly a thin bile as he had yet to eat for the day.

Severus nodded at the rating in thanks, and ignored the assassin's comment. He was not going to smoke on the dropship, but knowing the conditions on the ground, every extra bit of warmth helped.
He sat down on the grav-couch and strapped himself in, once again taking a chair as far away from the psykers as possible. Soon, he felt his body lighten, until he felt himself flying upwards, his motion stopped by the belts.
Severus had done drops as part of his training, but still the experience was far from pleasant. Making the sign of the aquila, he steeled himself against that which was to come, repeating the Litany of the Vacuum under his breath:
"O Most High and Holy Emperor
I see Your Light and feel Your Presence
Keep me safe from the void and vacuum
And see me home to the place where duty lies."

Raltus stowed his gear and strapped in along with the other team members. He was initially unworried by the prospect of a drop, but the rough launch was quickly bringing a queasy feeling to his biological components. He began a silent prayer to the Omnissiah in the hopes that it would stave off nausea. He opened a valve in his rebreather anyway. Losing his lunch would be... unseemly. Choking to death on it even more so.

Kadis had been trained to stalk and kill her quarry on every planetary environment inhabited by man. She had, however, only briefly experienced space travel and never on a drop vehicle. The deficiency in her training regime became immediately apparent.
Her stomach lurched up her throat in an attempt to strangle her brain. The young woman managed to turned her head to the side and aim for the floor when she lost her breakfast.

The dropship lurched again, and yet another of the party had lost their breakfast. This time, it was the assassin. He expected better of her.
He paused in his prayers for an instant.
"Perhaps you should ask the Emperor to give you fortitude if yours alone is not sufficient," he suggested to his companions. "For the sake of the honor of the organization we serve, if not your own."
The tech priest looked like he might be next. By the Emperor, never would I think that it would be a problem for HIM. After a second's consideration, Severus began whispering the Litany of Avoidance. It's the best he could do under the circumstances.

"He has endured for ten thousand years on the Golden Throne to protect all of humanity," said Kadis. "He endures agony. I will not ask his aid merely to minimize discomfort."

Raltus retched. And heaved. For over a minute. When he was done, he made sure to keep his robes out of the not insubstantial puddle. He noticed the surprise on the arbitrator's face, and assumed the others had similar reactions to his sickness.
His synthesized voice came between labored breaths, "Certain organs were not deemed important enough to replace. A moment's discomfort will not hamper my service to the Omnissiah." Raltus knew unequivocally which augmentations were next on the list.
