The Baltic States could be happier, but Russia doesn't get looted and run down like it did in real life so they're not as unhappy as they could be. Also, their ethnic minorities are happier since the Baltic States loose the opportunity to be dicks to them.

Then they're still very unhappy, because they did not like being conquered provinces of the Russian Empire. And I'm not excusing the actions of the Baltic governments, they have behaved very badly towards the Russian minority, but consider this in the eyes of the Baltics the Russians there are all setters of a conquering power. It's kinda how white settlers would have been treated if the Sioux or Cherokee had managed to fight off the United States. That doesn't justify it but context is important if nothing else without the context you can't solve the problem.

I'm not saying its sweetness and light, I'm saying that the Soviet Union survives and that its internal ethnic problems are less serious than they are in our world.

And YES YES YES! Taskmaster is just as badass as expected. Less than 24 hours to break Penumbra and stage an attack on the bases!

Well to be fair to Paul (man between that name and the navi's I'm getting heavy Dune vibes) his crew is likely better then a prison swept navy crew. Just like the damn squids to use jail rats to. Still if there are enough women on the ship things should remain at a low simmer.

Just how long does a Imperium navy ship stay on a cruise?

Imperial ships tend to take cruises for many months, with some brief stop overs. The Dune homage is intentional, since 40K steals from Dune. The women will have multiyear contracts, counted in ship time (since time passes differently in the warp).
