#1 Mechwarrior 4: Free?

Post by Hotfoot »

I've always enjoyed the Mechwarrior series, and 4, while it had some issues, is the best overall iteration of the series as far as gameplay goes.

And now it's free.

There's a bevy of improvements that have been made, but most importantly, it's Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries for free.

Have at it, boys.

Heh, heard they were giving out QuakeWarrior for free.

MW3 was the best game in the series anyway. And Damocles Lance was cooler too.

The site itself appears to be down, possibly from people downloading the game.

MW3 had a lot of points over MW4, this is true, but there was that nasty little problem with how it handled legging.

It did? It's been a while since played both but from what I recall they handled legging in exactly the same way-a legged Mech was down for the count, which seems like a perfectly reasonable way to handle things to me.
If anything MW4:Mercenaries was the more interesting game because you WEREN'T locked into a specific sequence of missions, you got to pick (if you played it right you could even build up a sizeable force before ever starting the campaign missions to begin with thanks to the Solaris option).

MW3 was the first (and only) Mechwarrior game wherein shooting a leg off meant an instant kill. In 2, it meant you were stuck without jumpjets (and really messed up in Mercs), but still alive and dangerous. In 4, it meant your speed was crippled and you could not reverse, which is fine.

Yeah. And the actual Btech stories back that up; a 'Mech with blasted legs can still shoot and fight from a sitting position. MW3's one real flaw was the "take out leg for win" approach.

The link should work now, as suspected, the website went down from overwhelming traffic thanks to the new release.

AAAAAAARGH! I wish you had never shown me this stupid game Hotfoot! Not only does the installer not work for me, but now that they released a version that doesn't require their buggy software to download that copy has a fucking trojan in it and their broken ass installation software deleted everything in my games folder, so not only am I unable to actually play the game but it destroyed the game of Dragon Age I had been working on for like thirty hours! FUCK!!!!!!! Oh, and the patches I tried to download at the same time seem to randomly disappear off my computer if you take your eyes off of them.

God damn this whole affair has been a mess.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear you're having such problems, but I haven't seen any release of the non-MTX version of the installer. Where did you get it?
