#1 Logitech Z506 Surround Sound speakers

Post by rhoenix »

Here it is, on Amazon:

My old iMac had much better speakers than my new laptop (big surprise), so I am now in the market for a good speaker set that won't require more than 5 minutes for a layman (when it comes to stereos and audio systems) to setup. So, I found this.

Any thoughts, or other recommendations?

I have those speakers, on loan/given to me by a coworker. They are pretty loud, solid, and you can set them up in as much time as it takes you to run the cords where you want them.

Exactly what I was hoping to hear - thank you.

I never understood the appeal for surround sound speakers for computers. For one thing, where the hell do you put them? I have logitech Z4s, 2 speakers and a subwoofer. It works wonders for me.

I'm just looking for a good external speaker system - this seemed to be both inexpensive (proportionate to other packages), and effective.

I saw another speaker set by Logitech that was a subwoofer and two speakers instead of four, but it was also $40 more. It was THX-certified, whatever that actually means in practice.

So, if you've a better solution, I'll check it out.

I pointed out the Z4s, but I don't know if they're cheaper or more expensive relative to that particular set you're interested in.

I was more puzzled at 5.1 surround sound speakers for a computer.

Fair enough - after looking up the Z4, I came across this model, listed as the "newer model" than the z4, for what that's worth.

So, it appears that this might be more a question of how much money I'm willing to cough up here for a decent computer speaker system, given the other models by Logitech alone that I'm seeing.

The other ones you saw were likely these, and if you have the extra cash and don't need the 5.1 they're likely a better buy.

For the curious - I ended up getting the Logitech Z 2300 speaker system.

Given that I get home from work at 3:30am and have neighbors, I haven't had the chance to properly test it (especially the sub) just yet - however, early tests show that the sound is very, very awesome.

My thanks again to all who contributed thoughts.

As a follow-up, now that I'm up and doing before-work stuff, I cranked the speakers up.

HAWT. I am very satisfied.
