The USS Immortal sliced into it's orbit, cleanly and efficiently. The Captain had insisted on acting like the Immortal was still a military ship and so, it was still a military ship. If one that wasn't entirely regulation. Captain Anderson had heard the... spirited discussion going on. He heavily disapproved of Nivoch broadcasting in the clear, just to start with.

"USS Argonaut, USS Immortal comm speaking. The Captain would like to inform you that he is beaming down presently. He would also like to inform you at this time that he and the troops attached to the USS Immortal are at the Argonauts disposal to secure required ground as according to Starfleet Regulations. Captain Anderson will not be beaming down, our transporter is currently nonfunctional and in... pieces. Shuttle craft will be landing nearby."

Commander Higgins Quarters

Ricky, also known as Lt. Summers leaned in for another kiss, lingering as he did so. Mary he thought was a fantastic kisser, among other things.

"Anything you want from the planet? Flowers? Some kind of fresh food? A kitten? Angry Governor hogtied?" He teased as he came up for air. Mary rolled her eyes and gave him a light swat.

"Just try not to use that ax on anyone, people get excited if you do." She mock ordered and pressed herself closer for another kiss. Ricky held her close, his drifting a bit low.

"You keep cradling my butt like that I'll forget the Captains waiting for you." She breathed into his ear. She kept that up and he would forget the Captain was waiting for him. Neither of them were even 30 yet, and in the world of a 20 something even a demi-god authority figure ranked lower then one significant other. Ricky let go with a suppressed groan and Mary slipped the hatchet into his belt.

"Be careful okay? I don't you to end up like you did on Sigmarious." She whispered.

"Hey, I'm sure they haven't gone all bush crazy here. But yeah, I'll be careful. Love you." He said slipping out the door and breaking into a jog.

En route to Shuttle Bay

"You know Sir, I'm not one to complain." Cerezi said as she pulled on her vaccum suit.

"But you're going to complain." Captain Anderson noted as a tech checked over his suit. It would be damn silly to come this far and die a death from suit failure or having put it on wrong.

"I'm just saying if you had come up with a solution besides blow up the transporter rooms, our lives over the last 9 months would have been slightly easier, sir." Cerezi replied with a crooked smile.

"Sssszzztttt, help out your Captain, who was it that planted the explosives?" Captain Anderson asked.

"Ship Leader, your humble Ground Leader believes it was Commander of Mammals Cerezi who planted the explosives under the transporters." The Gorn noted with heavy humor. As Cerezi stuck out her tounage, which caused Ssssszzztttt to make a sound that sounded like rocks in a blender. During this Lt. Summers jogged up and threw himself into his suit, not quiet making a record suit up time but finishing at least before Cerezi and the laughing Gorn who clacked his claws at the Lt, the Gorn form of winking.

"Lt. I trust Commander Higgins is well?" Asked the Captain tonelessly.

"Quiet well, Sir. She sends her regards." The Lt answered fearlessly. One of the reasons the Captain was rather fond of Lt Summers was his sheer fearlessness. Whether it be attacking Borg drones with a glorified sharp slab of metal or facing his Captain's idea of humor.

A knock came on the airlock. A Breen environmental face suit taking up the slit as Mak Than signaled it safe.

"Gentlemen and lady, let us depart." The Captain said.

Nivoch surface

"You wouldn't have really opened fire on them? Would you Mak Than?" A rather round eyed Cerezi asked. The Breen was leading the way to the meeting place.

"They threatened first." The Breen replyed solidly leading the way to the meeting site. The Lt carried his rifle behind him pointed at the dirt as his eyes scanned the terrain. Lt Summers refused to be the guy who got the Captain killed.

"Let's worry about it later, Cerezi. No use borrowing trouble," The Captain ordered. Unmentioned was the fact that First Officer Shran Tak had over two companies worth of ground troops to react with and the firepower of a Sovereign class ship if the Colony Government did decide to borrow trouble. The reached the open spot where the meeting took place.

A 6'1 human male with obvious silvery Federation cybernetics, a rather smaller female trill officer, a Breen with his weapons holstered, a human Lt with a rifle, and a large, armed Gorn. And for a wonder they weren't automatically the strangest group in the place.

"More federazhon ships?" said Morizan genially. "Do they have a secret shipyard out here that we don't know about?"

"This one hopes that is so," replied Arikel. "Zan Aaveroke, standard greetings to our allies. Let the captain know about the new arrivals as well."

There were words that were not spoken. There were no Klingon ships. Koloth had been the last Klingon vessel they had encountered and that was four months ago when they had pulled the survivors off the crippled vessel. Were their any left? Were they the last Klingons?

Arikel reclined in the command chair. It did not feel right. All these ships converging on the same place at the same time. "Strategic view. Begin intensive long range scan."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Klingons approached the other humanoids. There were Romulans among the Starfleet officers, along with those that had clearly come from the Valdore. Reman bodyguards as well.

Another group was beaming in, a mixed group that included a cybernetically modified human, a Gorn, and a Breen. There were guards as well. He had been right to leave the Marines behind.

"I am Kadon zantai Khemera, Captain of the Riskadh" said the tall Klingon. "This is Commander Kallor vestai Robash, one of my senior officers."

Alpha Quadrant
Nivoch System, Battlegroup Meeting Site, Nivoch IV

The wind of the planet blew through Marcellus’s hair. He had forgotten the last time he had stepped planetside. He had done so during the trip home, but not frequently, and often not for long. M-Class worlds were rare enough, and even when he was planetside, it was often within the confines of a spacesuit. Even the dirty air of a planet was a welcome change from the hollow, empty air from the Empyrean. A small part of him wished he had come barefoot, but he didn’t have time to revel. Collecting his thoughts, he looked around. Already, the others were starting to form up into a cohesive group. Catching his eye was the young Eoife Kirk, being approached, of all groups, by the Romulans. He could sense Maren’s anticipation, and rather than earn her ire for a second time today, he began walking towards Captain Kirk, who was already gathering quite a crowd.

Quite an untenable crowd at that. At last count, there had been the Argonaut, the Immortal, the Riskadh, the S’harien, the Gilgamesh, the Katara, the Spector, and of course, the Empyrean. Eight ships above a lonely world on the edge of Federation space. Eight crews that had come down to this planet to meet and discuss what to do next. DuBois could only imagine what these men and women had been through in the war. In some ways, being lost in the Gamma Quadrant had been a blessing, he did not see world after world assimilated, fighting, retreating, repeating. He slipped a glance to his left at Lieutenant Commander Dunok, trying to discern the Vulcan’s reason for joining him on the surface. Protection, perhaps? If that were the case, why not send Fenas? She was far more capable than Dunok at security and combat. No, there must be some personal reason for his wanting to be here, but it would have to wait, as his trio joined the ever-growing mob.

In turn, he greeted the assembled officers. “Captain Kirk, Commander Cretak, Captain Solheim, Captain Kadon, Commander Kalpov, good to see you all face to face,â€

Kadon coolly gazed at the Starfleet officers and they discussed the immenent arrival of the colonial officials. It appeared the federazhon couldn't keep its petty bureaucrats in line. A quarter of the galaxy was burning and they were still hamstringing themselves with rules and regulations. It was absurd it was, what was that word in standard, yes silly.

"I will deal with them," said Kadon. Humans and Tellarites could talk a being to death if they wished to. Vulcans could spout logic until the stars went dark. Romulans had symbols and duty, but Klingons, Klingons had action. The klin moved one to act and without klin there were no Klingons.

Kallor followed his captain as they broke away from the group. "May this one inquire if there is a plan?" Kallor asked.

"I will tell them what they need to hear," said Kadon.

"There are a lot of them for just a few bureaucrats."

"Fear moves them. Humans always choose to bolster their numbers when they are afraid."

"You have been well taught," said Kallor. "Fear also makes them jumpy and prone to over reaction."

Kadon raised his hand to the aircars would notice him and then brought his arm down in a motion to signal them to land. "Which is why I left the Marines behind. Their fear is not of Klingons and I would not change that."

"There is no shame in fearing a Klingon," said Kallor. They lapsed into silence. A future when nothing would ever again fear a Klingon loomed in their minds.

USS Heritage
Approaching Nivoch IV at one Quarter Impulse

"Sounds like they have everything in perfect order here, don't you think Nan?"

"Oh yeah, definitely. So who do we listen to?"

"That's easy enough...Open a channel to Nivoch Control and the Argonaut. Split screen if they're on visual."

"On screen, Boss," Cumpston replied.

"Nivoch Control, this is the Heritage. We promise not to put any strain on your colony itself, we just want 24 hours or so planet side for the crew to stretch their legs. We've not been to a habitable planet that is relatively peaceful in nearly a year. We don't need resupply, just R&R."

"I've got a vessel dropping out of warp, Galaxy-Class. Identifies as the U.S.S. Vigilance."

"Bloody hell, she's still floating," came Thibodeaux's incredulous response.

The bridge crew listened to the argument between Nivoch control and the Argonaut, before Thibodeaux cleared his throat.

"The Heritage will be taking a Southern Hemisphere Orbit gentlemen. Since Nivoch control can't seem to figure it out. There's plenty of open space there. Argonaut please inform your Captain that we will be joining him shortly. Heritage out."

Thibodeaux rubbed his temples for a few moments, as if clearing cobwebs - or a bad headache - before speaking again, "Put us in a southern geo-synchronous orbit that puts us in Transporter Range.....better check if the transporters are working. Joos'an, can we beam down to the planet?"

The gruff Klingon voice replied over the comm almost instantly, "I just finished reinitializing the Heisenberg Compensators, so yes...your lucky enough that they are."

"Good. We're going to be using them. Twelve hour shore leave for the crew, taken in shifts once we get to the planet and do this meet and greet."

"We'll be in orbit in 2 minutes Alvin."

"Good deal. Ryan, you're with me. Doctor Kaiser, report to Transporter Room One. Hold the ship down for a bit Nancie, I'll let you know when you can come down."

Alvin, followed by Lt Cumpston, walked into the turbo lift, the doors sliding shut behind them.

Surface of Nivoch IV

The incandescent blue star field and characteristic hum of a Star Fleet transporter accompanied the arrival of Alvin Thibodeaux, Holly Kaiser and Ryan Cumpston in the field.

The wind on his face brought a sigh of relief from Thibodeaux's mouth, and a pang of regret he didn't bring Nancie down with him to enjoy the first steps planet side. Still...at least one of the senior officers needed to be on the bridge, just in case.

Holly and Ryan, for their part, were showing unrestrained joy at being on the planet, Holly releasing a private little squeak of happiness as she saw the colors of the flowers. Alvin looked across the field, and saw the other gathering gathered personnel, and began to make his way towards them leisurely.

"Ahoy there," he called out when he noticed a small lull in the speaking, as manner of announcing their arrival.

A tall, slightly graying man, stood in front of his chair. The Orion woman behind him languished against it, a small smile playing on her lips.

"Seems they have quite the reception lined up for us."

A stern looking Romulan, and the only one of the three that had a full uniform on, replied first.

"Not uncommon. Somebody makes a stop, other vessels catch them on their sensors, decide there's safety in numbers."

The man smiled and sat down again. The seat wasn't very comfortable by his standards. But he'd managed to get used to it over the long years.

"You say that like it's a bad thing Khoal." He looked over to the woman who sat before him, she looked like a mess, suffering from a maimed body. "Helmsman, take us out of warp a little farther from the planet than usual and drop us out of cloak then. No reason to drop the Barbarossa on someone's head."

The woman looked back and even now there was an immortal fire burning in her eyes. "Yes, Captain Reis."

A few minutes later, the Barbarossa dropped out of warp, a little closer to the planet than most ships would, and a few seconds later decloaked. In the sun light the red on the ship's head was clearly visible on the massive ship that dwarfed everyone else. Captain Hizir Reis opened an open channel and smiled.

"Hello Nivoch IV, and assembled vessels of the resistance. This is Captain Reis of the Barbarossa. I assume everyone here is on their way to Bajor?"

"Lieutenant Adranis to Captain Solheim - Captain, we have detected two new ships entering system," Captain Solheim's commbadge suddenly chirped with Lieutenant Adranis' distinct voice, speaking Federaton Standard. "One appears to be a Starfleet war-refitted Galaxy-class with the registry Vigilance, and the other appears to be a Romulan Star Empire d'Deridex-class Warbird, fixed up in precisely the best way to offend the eyes and every sensibility I have, with the registry... Barbarossa. Your orders, sir?"

Unable to help himself, Captain Solheim smirked slightly at his Lieutenant's description of the latter ship as he tapped his commbadge to reply. "Standard procedure, Lieutenant. Thorough passive scan of each, and direct traffic to Nivoch traffic control - please inform them that two more ships have now entered the system. Please thank Nivoch traffic control for their kindness to old warships and their crews, and remind them that their generosity in these dark hours, despite their troubles, will be spoken about when we get to Bajor, and well after."

Captain Solheim could actually hear the smirk in Lieutenant Adranis' voice. "Very good, sir. Gilgamesh out."

After the brief conversation had finished, his attention returned to the matter at hand. Commander Inzeti's voice spoke softly from next to him, her words spoken elegantly in Romulan. "In this wild, uncivilized field, the crews of ships of war once belonging to bitter enemies, or wary friends could still meet on equal terms in these dark times to take down a fearsome enemy. This promises well."

Even as the crews of the Heritage, Riskadh, Katara, and Spector neared their gathering, Captain Solheim couldn't help but see that this might be true, upon seeing a Klingon look a Romulan in the eyes, and both nod slightly before both looked away. He replied quietly in return, also speaking Romulan. "Perhaps - but we've lived this long because we make our own luck. May we do the same today."

After this, he nodded to the arriving crews, observing them as they warily looked one another over - some undoubtedly wishing they'd brought marines, and others glad that they had not.

"Ahoy yourself," he replied with a smirk to Captain Thibodaux of the Heritage. "With an accent like that, we might get the idea you've actually been on open water."

As Captain Kirk arrived, Captain Solheim met her with a nod. "Greetings, Captain Kirk. Lest there be any misunderstandings, your name does not impress me. What does impress me is the state of your ship, given her history. You've kept yourself and your crew alive and fighting the best you can, and that is as good a reference as I can think of for your character. Well met, Captain," he said with a nod of respect.

As the two Klingons arrived, Captain Solheim nodded to them. "Welcome," he said in accented Klingon.

"I come from a long line of of who made their living playing first the waters, then the stars, Captain," Alvin said as the trio approached the gathered Commanders of their respective ships.

Alpha Quadrant
Nivoch System, Nivoch IV

The commander's reaction to his having spoken Federation standard was noted although he displayed no outward indication of that fact. Was it really it so surprising? Before the Dominion war, nearly every move the Empire had taken had been in direct result or in anticipation of a countermove by the Federation. The history of the Federation, the composition of its people, its military forces and ideology nonsensical or otherwise had been required knowledge at the Imperial War College. Before the Dominion War, every ship the Empire built and every soldier it had trained had been in the anticipation that sooner or later both Empires would clash. In Romulus the dominant theory was that the manifest destiny of each Empire laid in the subjugation of the other. In that context, his fluency in the language of the Federation was expected.

He nodded his head as the commander spoke of the pleasure of seeing him, a ripple of pleasure born in the pit of his stomach and radiating outwards as he complemented the S'harien. That ripple was strangled in its infancy by his next words. It took Vulcan like self-control for his body to remain relaxed, beneath what could be at best a careless word and at worst a deliberate insult. His mind for a moment raced, and his Reman guards picked up on the sudden shift in the mind of their charge. Two sets of eyes focused too keenly on the human commander as a pair of Reman minds considered one of the three hundred and eighty four ways they had been taught to kill a human being. Before the Remans could act on their training, his body moved subtly and the Remans responded to the motion by forcing their gaze away from the commander momentarily.

I gain nothing by having this man killed in one of a thousand ways each more gruesome than the last.

The truth of the Commander's words stung and there was no shame in admitting that. The Empire had toppled far more quickly than anyone had ever dreamed and he had seen graveyards of ships with his own eyes that he would never have dreamed possible. To contend the truth of those words was to deny reality. To lash out against someone that could be an ally in the days to come would be foolish and would only diminish him in the eyes of the others. He took a deep breath and held it for a moment, savoring the scent of an untouched M-class world.

It has been too long.

His eyes focused on those of Commander Kalpov and there was no rage in his eyes. "We will do our part in the days to come Commander." He did not go into details because he could not. The S'harien had fought since the moment of her birth. That would not change.

The moment shifted as the young Captain Kirk made her way closer and then the Commander spoke words that he himself had been expecting for some time. What would be the chain of command for this assembled group? It was abundantly clear that they would be more effective against the Borg working in conjunction with each other than alone.

Who is going to lead?

It was with that thought in mind that his attention shifted towards the Klingons as they approached more closely. His eyes tracked the powerful members of another species that like his own, could very well be endangered beyond recovery. The Klingons mere presence radiated confidence and they had not come with bodyguards. For a moment, a small smile graced his lips as he understood the implications behind the move.

Ah, Taev. You would like these Klingons.

Klingons had never lacked courage and the pair that approached seemed to possess an overwhelming abundance of confidence. His eyes moved towards Kadon zentai Khemara and remained on the powerfully built Klingon for a handful of precious seconds as he sought to gauge the warrior's worth. He liked what he saw. His attention shifted towards Kallor and lingered there for a moment.

"It has been a long time since I saw a Vor'cha Captain Kadon zantain Khemara." He said in Romulan, his left hand moving slightly before he spoke in order to allow his own universal translator to try and translate to Klingon. He had never truly learned that particular language, and he did not wish to offend the Klingons with a poor rendition of their language.

His attention shifted towards the commanding officer of the Empyrean as the man spoke and he proposed an interesting arrangement. A part of him was annoyed at the human tendency for rash action, but there was a certain elegance in his proposed solution. He could have cut in, he could have sought to dismember that little idea before it had the time to take root.

What would it gain me? I have no desire to lead.

The Immortal had a history of survival and the Riskadh represented the oldest and mightiest ally of the Federation. A human and a non-human, both commanding mighty ships in their own right. It was an elegant solution. It also allowed him greater tactical flexibility. The S'harien's capabilities allowed him to move throughout the galaxy at his leisure. He would not be able to truly serve his people in his best capacity if all his time was taken up by stroking egos and devising stratagems.

"I second that proposal." Riov Galan Cretak spoke, intimately aware that he was supporting the placement of a Human and a Klingon in command of a task force that would include his own vessel. "It has a certain symmetry to it that cannot be overlooked."

"While you two sort out who is in charge of what, Nivoch IV, I will be heading down." Markson stood up from his chair, tapping his commbadge to communicate with his Helmsman. "Bring us into Transporter range, then go to standard holding pattern. We might as well show some respect."

"Suvuc. You have the con."

"I believe you are right, Captain Kaden," Eoife Kirk said, giving him a respectful nod of her head, hoping that she had the greeting between equals correct. "The same sensor readings can and will be read by the Borg, and they will stop to investigate."

"Captains," Sevin spoke quietly from behind her. "The Spector reports two more ships have entered the system. Neither are Borg." The announcement was delivered in the calm informative tones of a Vulcan.

"Forgive me Captains," the young female Kirk said. "This is my XO, Serin of Vulcan. He is one of the reasons the Spector remains in the fight."

The raised eyebrow the mixed-Orion blood XO gave his captain was familiar to any who knew Vulcans, yet he held his peace.

"So far," agreed Captain Solheim with a small smile. "And I will fight to make sure that our impromptu fleet and this planet both stay that way."

He nodded to Captain Markson of the Vigilant as he and a single guard appeared from the typical Starfleet starfield effect of their transporters.

Upon listening to some of the deeper discussions going on, about how their fleet should be organized, Captain Solheim found himself shaking his head at the idea. "Given the circumstances, having only two leaders, despite flying the Immortal and Riskadh isn't enough. I suggest Cretak in addition to Kaden, to help rally the Romulan forces we might be able to gather. We have the forces here and now to effectively split three ways in combat if needs be - politically, this would give that many more people a standard to rally around."

As he spoke, his half-lidded eyes found Cretak's for only a moment while he spoke his piece. I do not just do this for you, old friend - people always fight harder if led competently by one they see as one of them.

The assembled captains fell to discussion of the question at hand, all of them hamstrung by the expectations they had likely had in coming here. While there had been a time when seeing nearly a dozen ships arrive in a system at once was merely uncommon, nowadays it was unheard of, even if the snowballing effect of non-Borg ships was well understood.

Ereshal glanced apprehensively at the Remans as they made some imperceptible move towards their weapons, and he saw her tense up, her hand moving nearly invisibly towards her own weapon. Yet before Kalpov could ask what was the matter, whatever it was had passed, as though it had never been.

"We haven't seen this many ships together in one place since Earth," said Kalpov, considering the point he wanted to make more important than any ill-feelings he might conjure up by mention of that name full of tragedy and woe, "nor any other ships at all in person for two months now. We stopped here because the colony offered to make it worth our while to do so, to take on supplies and give our crew a chance for R&R. I don't think they were expecting this many ships."

He paused. At best, he was only a Commander. There were Captains and their equivalents within this crowd. Yet at the same time, rank had lost much of its luster in the current situation. They each had ships and crews to think of, whatever the ranks involved.

"If other ships can find us here," he said, "then so can the Borg. Their fleet is already on approach to Bajor, and part of it is spread out to sweep up all of the colonies across this sector. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm under orders to reach Bajor intact, and before the Borg do. I'm also under orders to ensure that any other ships Federation or not, do the same."

He looked at the other captains for a moment, trying not to pause for too long on any one. Who knew what these people had been through, seen, were planning to do.

"I can't compel any of you to come, most of you outrank me, and those who don't aren't Starfleet, but we all have people to think of. I personally think, if most of you are willing to come to Bajor, that we stand a better chance together than separate. I'm prepared to place Argonaut under the strategic command of... whoever we decide on. But too many cooks will spoil this soup. We need one person in charge here, maybe two, but no more. I've never commanded ships except mine, so I'm out. Argonaut will serve under Captain Anderson, or under Captain Kadon or Captain Cretak..." he nodded to each of the named Captains in turn, "... if they propose to go to Bajor. If the rest of you are willing to do the same, then we can figure out what to do about the colony, and how long we want to spend here. Not that I'm complaining, but if we get too many more ships, we may wind up drawing the Borg to the colony."
Gaze upon my works, ye mighty, and despair...

Gul Tarka had remained silent, simply watching and noting each Captain's names. When the Commander began speaking he nodded his agreement with his words.

"My standing orders from Cardassia Prime, as well as any other Cardassian ships outside our space was to harry Borg lines as we made our way to Bajor. I intend to follow my orders by heading for Bajor and assisting in the defense."

The Gul looked to his aide then back to the assorted captains. "And as for who should have command of this fleet? I would prefer one of our Federation Captains to take command." Tarka said, looking over to the Klingon and Romulan Captains. While the Romulan wouldn't have been horrible to serve under, he would rather be assimilated than willingly follow a barbaric Klingon savage. Such thoughts though, were better kept quiet than voiced.

"I am not qualified or suited to lead a fleet," said Captain Solheim, "but you may rest assured that the Gilgamesh will be going to Bajor. We stopped here to re-provision on the way."

Unsaid were his thoughts on who should lead the fleet. Commander Kalpov did make a good point about "too many cooks," but it would be prudent to take stock of the situation before acting.

The delegation from the Immortal and a delegation it turned out to be had remained silent for much of the discussion. Mak Than, who was there out of a truly feudal sense of loyalty, stayed quiet because he didn't care. Ssszzzttt stayed quiet out of trust for the Captain and frankly this wasn't his job. Cerezi stayed quiet out of deference and friendship. Lt. Summers wouldn't have spoken up without the Captain's permission any more then Abraham would have disobeyed the Biblical God.

Captain Anderson stepped forward from his 3 watch dogs, who had been scanning the crowd for the threats, Sssszzzttt perhaps giving the Remeians more attention then was strictly necessary. He held up his hands to get everyone's attention as he scanned the crowd. He was tall for a human and severe looking. Half of his face was covered in silver-grey metal, his left eye was red glowing optical implant. The other half of his face was grimly unmoving, giving off no expression. His left hand to the elbow was also metallic, a testament to the cost of surivival. While clearly non-Borg in origin, the sight of metal combined to living flesh could not but help to invoke the thought of them.

"Officers and troops. We have two situations before us. One is that some of us require supply here and the colony is the only real place to do short of Bajor. Second is that our presence may draw in Borg ships and doom the colony. So let me ask, who here needs urgent or critical resupply that this colony provides and who here can wait until we reach Bajor? Those of us who can leave will do so as a group with the resuppliers following after as a second group. Someone after all should report to Starfleet Command and let them we're coming. We wouldn't want to be rude party guest after all, would we?" He asked with a ghost of a smile.

Watching Captain Anderson move forward, and raise a hand to stop conversations around him reminded Captain Solheim strongly of his old instructors at Section 31 - all business and efficiency. In this case, more of both certainly couldn't hurt.

After his question, Captain Solheim nodded once crisply, and began his reply. "The Gilgamesh is low on replicator materials, but we can make do for another month on rations. The ship herself is in fighting shape now, or as close to it as possible given the circumstances," he said, raising his chin slightly with pride. "We can be the advance scout to Bajor, if needs be."

"A pleasure to meet you Riov Cretak," said Kadon. "We have seen too few allies over the past years and it pleases me greatly to Romulans again. The galaxy will be the poorer should your flame be extinguished. Your people have proven themselves worthy of the stars." There were few words of higher praise in Klingonaase and he knew this particular concept also existed in the Rihannsu tongue. It was dangerous to think of Romulans as a kind of Klingon, but there were many areas of common ground between the two peoples which was why they had alternately cooperated or warred.

The federazhon junior officer made his proposal and the other captains considered it. The Cardassian urged the others to choose a federazhon captain, which caused Kadon to shoot a glance at Cretak. It was obvious why he did not want a Klingon or Romulan in charge. He believed that a Human would be easier to manipulate and would not hunt him if he chose to abandon the fight when the fighting was fierce. Kadon had killed enough Cardassians during the Dominion War to know that there were many brave soldiers among them, but they weren't killers of civilian cargo ships.

"The issue," said Kadon, "is not who is going to Bajor. The issue is it wise to go to Bajor and leave this planet defenceless. The answer is that it is not merely wise, it is essential."

"If Deep Space Nine falls the strongest fortification outside of Cardassia Prime will be gone, along with one of the few remaining facilities with the industrial capacity to repair damaged starships. All Federation worlds will be vulnerable to Borg attack, not just this one. And Cardassia will be next.

"The Borg are unlikely to divert forces to assimilate minor worlds like this one when a major offensive is underway. Our best chance of defending this world is defeating them at Bajor. We all must go."

"As for the one who leads, it must be one who is worthy to command Klingons. The one must be skilled in battle and have honour sufficient that the one is trusted by all senior commanders of our fleet."

"More ships," said Morizan. "Kagga's Crown."

"Say instead Kahless kaase," said Menmoth. The huge Marine was standing just behind Arikel and watching the strategic display.

"Shouldn't you be in a troop transporter room with a dozen Marines, ready to beam down and save the captain?" asked Morizan.

"I have forty-four Marines ready to depart in the first wave," said Morizan. "Orders are given on the bridge to the rest of the ship, yes?"

"This one has observed it to happen," replied Morizan.

DuBois looked over at Captain Anderson, who had finally spoken up. He had felt a little bad putting the Captain forward, even if just to stall the colonists, but he had never lead a fleet before, and now was not the time to learn. Best to leave that sort of thing to the professionals, and the Captain of a Sovereign-Class and the Captain of a Vor’cha-Class? They had the experience necessary to lead, and, together, likely help the impromptu fleet at least make it to Bajor.

“The Empyrean has enough supplies, but we desperately need systems downtime for at least the next few hours. Aside from that, we’re ready to continue the fight, but I do need information. We’ve been largely cut off for the last several years and what intel we have is extremely limited. Lieutenant Commander Dunok here,â€

"The Riskadh is well supplied, although rationing for the last . ." Kadon paused to translate the numbers, "six months, Terran standard. Whatever command arrangement we settle on, it will take several hours to hammer out the details and the chain of command. Start your downtime immediately and by the time we have settled the issue, you will have gotten downloads from our ship library computers on the events of the last few years and we'll have settled the issue of who leads."

Thibodeaux almost snorted at the mention by Anderson of Star Fleet Command. Thibodeaux had been witness to what "Command" would do and how they would act. He had been a good officer for his entire career, and, and in his mind, he would always be a good officer, but his first duty was to his crew and ship.

Fuck Command.

"The Heritage is about as good as she's going to get outside of a setting in for a refit. We've replicator mass for another two months at normal use, but we've been rationing that out. We've enough Field Rations for another two months after that."

Thibodeaux remembered coming across the broken hulks of three Federation star ships they had come across a few months back, and the grizzly work of salvaging what they could.

"The crew, though, are in need of some time planet side. It's been almost eight standard months since we last set foot on a planet, and my men are overworked and overstressed. I don't want to head to the fleet at Bajor with a crew who might snap under strain. I intend to stay here twenty hours, if I have to let the crew out into the wilderness of Nivoch to get their ground-time, so be it. But we won't strain the colony's resources anymore than absolutely nessacry."

"We need water." Markson said simply. "We've been rationing it out since we lost our supply ships coming back from the Klingon front. We can stretch everything else out, even the crew. But if we don't have water, we might not be able to sustain for the time to Bajor; the Vigilance is down to 9.2 Warp these days, and that's if we light a fire under the nacelles with flint and tinder."

"The Spector is not going to get better outside of space dock," Eoife answered Captain Anderson. "We have been collecting asteroids for replicator matter for two years now, so we have not had to resort to rations yet. What the crew would truly love is the chance to replace atmosphere," she added wryly. She was sure she wasn't the only captain whose crew was getting sick of recycled air. "We were lucky to grab a comet, so our water is potable if nothing else."

She looked over at the Klingons as the captain made his statement. "I know well the reputation of my name, but I also know I have yet to reach those heights. But I will follow the Immortal and her captain gladly."

"The planet is class M," said Kadon. "There is plenty of water. The troop and cargo transporters of the Riskadh are fully functional. We will render assistance as necessary."
