The USS Ben Sisko's Motherfuckin' Pimp Hand!

And the story of how Sisko got the Romulans to give them a cloaking device. "Hey, Ambassador Motherfucker, I need a favor!" *sounds of repeated bitchslapping*

I feel a sudden urge to fire up my modded copy of ST: Bridge Commander to fly the Defiant again.

After getting back into DS9, following a STO binge, I just finished watching s05e06 - Trials and Tribble-ations.

Man, that was hilarious. Watching Worf very earnestly and irritatedly explain "Yes! They're a damn menace, you're damn right we wiped them out! I'd do it again in a heartbeat!"

Even to the protestations from everyone else (including Odo making a crack to Worf about how many victory songs must've been written about the great Tribble Wars), Worf didn't budge an inch.

Then, at the end, it shows DS9 nearly overrun with tribbles.

Mr. Worf, I salute you.

You are indeed a man of esteemed priorities. I cannot blame you in the least.

(next episode has her in a Risan swimsuit, with her hair down though. S5 must be "shit Dax is hot" season)

I like Jadzia, yes, but Ezri (Nicole deBoer) was more my style, the cute innocent girl next door kinda thing going on.

Nicole de Boer was hot in her own way. And I loved her as Sarah in "Dead Zone".

The Risa episode is forever ruined for me now by how much laughter I got from watching Chuck's review of it.

Holy shit.

s05e17 of DS9, at 10:58 to 11:00, it shows a Prometheus-class flying by the station.

Also, Odo got busy with a bad girl. Good man - it should happen at least once.

Also, I've gone back to watch the ending of s05e15, By Inferno's Light many times. Worf's moment of awesome, and the Jem'Hadar who said "I yield! I cannot defeat this Klingon. I can only kill him - and that no longer holds my interest."

That line right there showed an excellent parallel to the Klingons.

I really love some of the two parter names in ds9.

"By Pergatory's Shadow" and part two is "By Inferno's Light"

Just cool sounding shit.

Man, seriously. The writing is just amazing me, even down to the names of the episodes.

I just finished watching s07e08: "The Siege of AR-558", or "The Episode Wherein Nog Has a Moment of Awesome."

The entire episode was well done, and Sonnenburg has covered the more salient aspects of the episode in the link earlier presented in this thread. The one I want to reflect on is the impassioned speech Quark has about humans being scary without their creature comforts, and how Ferengi are nothing like them - until he shoots a Jem'Hadar to protect Nog during the battle. The look on his face as it sank in was excellent.

I am more and more impressed by this show. I still say killing off Jadzea was a dick move - but Ezri is showing to be an interesting character thus far.

Of the non-war episodes this season, s07e04 - "Take Me Out to the Holosuite" was awesome. The entire round of shit-talking at the Vulcan captain's expense was just great.

Was it the writer's decision to kick Jadzia off? IIRC the year she left was the same year she started as co-star on Becker - maybe she just got sick of doing Star Trek and wanted to move on. I don't really know the story.

She chose to leave DS9 for Becker. She's stated she loved being on DS9 and she left only for career reasons.

In an interview she stated she was worried about being typecasted into her part. Which honestly can kill a career.

That makes practical sense, I suppose. I can't really blame her for the decision she did for her acting career - but I still can't help but wonder what might've been for the storylines in season 7 had she stayed.

IIRC she regretted it though because season 7 was the last one. It would have been terrific to have her and her character's death was so senseless I had a bad taste in my mouth over season 7 (which only made things worse when the quality of the storylines went right down).

And yeah being typecast is more or less a certainty when you are involved in a show like Star Trek. TNG has been off the air for over two decades - other than Patrick Stewart, what has the rest of the cast been up to? Johnathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Levar Burton, Gates McFadden? Even Wil Wheaton. Similarly with DS9. And Voyager. And I guess even Enterprise.

(secretly i wish for Star Trek The Next Generation Phase 2...)

Most actors in general, whatever they play on, only have one signature role. Blaming typecasting and then quitting that role is, in my mind, foolishness.

Jerry Doyle, who played Michael Garibaldi in Babylon 5, was once asked at a convention whether he was afraid of typecasting due to his role. He responded that there were worse things in life than being remembered forever as a "badass space cop".
Gaze upon my works, ye mighty, and despair...

Havoc: "So basically if you side against him, he summons Cthulu."
Hotfoot: "Yes, which is reasonable."

Jerry Doyle never made acting his career in the way many actors do though.

Got to s07e16 - "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges."

Now I see what Marcao was talking about regarding Senator Cretak, and what happened to her. I had wondered, since she seemed like a good, strong supporting character before this episode happened.

That was viciously smooth, I must say. Sloan is a bastard alright, but I'll give him that he knows his stuff.

That's my favourite episode of season seven. It stands well apart from its peers.

Although I am no fan of Section 31.

Of course not, with the forum rank of "Secret Agent Man." That would be wrong and misleading.

Also... s07e13, "Field of Fire" included a slugthrower rifle that included a micro-transporter for each slug, and an eyepiece that worked with the gun to allow one to shoot a target with ease without bothersome things like "cover" or "walls" getting in the way of a good snipe. Daddy likes.

The problem I have is that Section 31 is totally unaccountable, but is also way too effective to be a 'rogue group'. I believe it was implied in 'Inter Arma' that there is some covert support for it in the highest echelons of power and authority in the Federation.

Anyway, I hate it. I hate it as a concept and I hate its execution. Starfleet Security and Intelligence have already been established in TNG (and presumably existed in Kirk's time) and I see absolutely no reason whatsoever to invent a new organisation that haha has existed since the dawn of time (re: the Federation's formation at least) and is no doubt responsible for any event that could even remotely be described as having some kind of shadow hand influencing it.

Out of universe, the writers obviously wanted to make the Federation 'darker' and 'edgier' than what we're used to. But for fuck's sake, what for? Starfleet has not always been squeaky clean so it's totally unnecessary (Admiral Pressman was working on developing a phase-cloak prototype in clear violation of the Treaty of Algeron in 'Pegasus', and Kirk and the Enterprise engaged in espionage in 'The Enterprise Incident' by stealing a next gen Romulan cloaking device). They just wanted to bring in a new villain from the good guy's camp. And I can't help shake the feeling they only brought in the concept to capitalise on the 90s fad of 'lol government conspiracy lol'.

So yeah, boo to Section 31!

Maybe Section 31 was ran by those Mindworms from TNG? I know it seems Picard got the queen, but that doesn't mean he stopped them

The Romulans in Kirk's time were an enemy power that had engaged in violence on Federation bases and citizens. I fail to see how Kirk engaging in covert operations against an enemy power to save Federation lives by getting valuable information and material on their main edge over the Federation makes them "darker and edgier."

Wow.

Well, I just finished season 7. Stofsk, I'm afraid I disagree with your assessment of this season - there were many, many good moments in this season that played out wonderfully.

I am very impressed with this series, and I am very glad I took the time to watch it all the way through. I plan on rewatching it again in the future.
