#1 Transformers Prime

Post by LadyTevar »

A new animated series on "Hub TV" this February, but I'm watching a sneak preview now.

My thoughts so far:
1. Seems based in part on the movies. Prime and only a few others on Earth, Arcee is among them, so is Bulkhead & Cliffjumper. Decepticons have been missing for 3yrs... but of course this changes within the first 5min. 'Bots are in hiding from Humans as much as possible.

2. Animation is CGi, very well done, even if the designs of the 'Bots are simplified movie versions. Fight scenes are furious, but not so fast that you can't see what's happening. Facial expressions will take a little to get used to, along with the movie-style eyes.

3. Voice acting is sharp & snappy, and yes, it has THE PRIME VOICE. If the dialogue continues to be this sharp, it's got a chance of working on adult & child levels for jokes.

4. Humans. *sigh* Insert 3 teenagers. So far, the jury is out on them. Mostly, the excuse to have them around is "the 'Cons saw them with us, and want to kill them for seeing us".

Verdict?
It was a teaser. It was meant to show the possibilities and drum up interest. As such, it worked. I am looking forward to seeing a few more episodes, to see where they go from here. Nitram complained about the number of commercial breaks, but then again this is a show meant to sell toys. However, he has to admit he'll be looking for it when it comes on.

We're gonna have humans in a transformer story. especially a TV show. Let's just accept it and move on.

I'm recording the five-part pilot night-by-night, but I'm not going to watch it until Sunday when it's complete and I can sit down and enjoy the whole thing while eating a pizza.

Hub is also airing the old 80s series of TFs and G.I.Joe.

Also, anyone catch the new G.I. Joe Renegades series? G.I. Joe meets A-Team in concept, really interesting.

I hae seen more episodes. Besides the shiver I get just from hearing Prime's voice, I am really rockin' the show.

They have the Prime voice, and the Megatron voice (Cullen and Welker reprise their roles in this series).

Aside from it taking cues from the Live Action movies (pretty much the Bot and vehicle mode designs) and some of the story (a Dead Cybetron) they also rip bits and pieces of lore from the other continuities (Dead Cybertron, but deposits of Energon being strewn throughout the cosmos thanks to TF's hiding their stockpiles on other planets and it growing, the All Spark, etc etc).
I'm....cautiously optimistic so far.

I'm HATING the humans in this one, well, one human in particular, the girl Miko. She's fucking stupid.

Middle of a god damn shotout where their hopefully outnumbered, and see her two friends show up while she's hiding with Bulkhead "What are THEY doing here. This is MY one on one time with Bulkhead!"

SHUT UP YOU STUPID BITCH! Everytime you open your mouth, I want to see it disappear in a blaster bolt or just magically disappear ala the MAtrix.

I am hoping for some growth with Miko, yes. She is all of the bad things about the girl from Transformers: Animated that was on recently.

Watched it. It was alright, but why steal so many story elements from the War on Cybertron game without taking their excellent 'bot designs? Starscream in particular was ugly. It was good to hear Welker back as Megatron. His voice has changed and that does affect how Megs comes across, but it was still glorious.
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.

Finally saw it (my DVR auto-deleted the final three parts a couple weeks ago due to being stupid). I think it'll work well.

Yes, Miko is an adrenaline junkie idiot. Jack is the sensible one.

Oh, and Jeffrey Combs as Ratchet? Win!

Ernie Hudson as Agent Fowler? More win!

And Steve Blum doing the same voice, about, he used for Green Goblin in "Spectacular Spider-Man" for Starscream? Even more win! And a fun coincidence since Josh Keaton, Spidey from Spectacular Spider-Man, is voicing Jack.

[spoilers]
Oh.... and let's not forget Cliffjumper. Voiced by Dwayne Johnson of all people?[/spoilers]

Anyway, if the main series is as good as this, it'll be an excellent show.
