Map
Okay, first everyone thank Derek Thunder for taking the time and effort to draw this lovely map. Y'all should see it without my butchery overlaid on it.
That said, purple lines are provincial boundaries. No, you may not change them. No, we will not have a discussion about it. I encourage players to spread out a bit, I know y'all are tempted to stick to the least amount of provinces you require but that will only annoy your mod and make any province you lose hurt more. CT should have the climate set up any hour now and he should post it here. While picking your provinces just send me a pic of the ones you want with a dot of some color in them or post them here so no one makes off with your provinces. People who have their OOBs up get dibs over those who don't.

I have also finished the climate work. I need to go in and fix the spare pixels, but it is done.
Tan: Plain
Gray: Mountain
Pink: Mediterranean
Light Green: Trop Rainforest
Aquamarine:Temperate Rainforest
Baby Shit Green: Savannah
Yellow: Desert
Gray-Green:Boreal Forest
Forest Green: Mixed conifer/deciduous
Very light blue: Icecap.
Arrows indicate direction of prevailing winds during the Spring and Autumn Equinox. Winter solstice, they shift shouth (so an east wind becomes a west wind etc), summer solstice, they shift up (same deal).
Keep in mind, rivers shown are not the only ones. There are others, and they may not all correspond to province borders. Additionally, these climate regions are not homogenous. There is other stuff there on a fine scale you may want to detail and post. This is a time period where terrain REALLY fucking matters.
Things to know about the planet:
Its spin is in the opposite direction to earth, so the sun rises in the west.
It is not a planet, but a moon of a gas giant (which is colored aquamarine, with swirly purple). As a result of this, and its eccentric orbit, there is a full solar eclipse every 12 months on the winter solstice. This lasts for two weeks. During this eclipse, the planet glows creepily due to scatter from the sun around said gas giant. I need to figure out how "gas giant phases" will work. However, during the eclipse, well, I would imagine creepy scary things are more likely occur.

Only the places shown in the province map are open for player powers.

Finishing my OOB now. Here are my territorial claims:
Red dots are provinces I consider necessary. Brown ones are ones I'd like to take if it's not going to screw someone else out of a starting position.

Hehehe... ironically, that reddish brown colour is pretty close to the one I was using and those three provinces in the mountains were part of my territorial claim.
Oh the fun that will be had bordering two empires.

Havoc, I did say people with OOBs up get first call man. Glad it's provinces you don't feel are vital to you.

Alright here goes:

Light blue is where I haven't quite decided yet, if Comrade Tortoise would let me have that tiny little province which would be sort of a Macau that would be nice. If not I'll take the one to the north. I am trying to basically represent a powerful trading empire with minor outposts and colonies all over the place.

It takes more than 24 hours for me to write up an OOB, Frigid, particularly on a day when I'm at work.frigidmagi wrote:Havoc, I did say people with OOBs up get first call man. Glad it's provinces you don't feel are vital to you.
This... development places me in a very problematic position. I have to reconsider what I'm doing in this case.

Meh, then I'll drop the dot inside of Sharkbaits area and just take that one to the far north-east instead.

Are those 3 mountain provinces really that important Havoc?This... development places me in a very problematic position. I have to reconsider what I'm doing in this case.
I'm not trying to be snippy, this is an honest question so can figure things out here.

The central-western mountain range, where it's connected to a desert? West edge of the desert, please, for my lack of skillz.

Dark silver, the islands go to Norseman.

The issue isn't the provinces themselves being that important. The issue is the overall strategic position it results in, particularly pending the remaining players. I worry that it places me in a starting position wherein I border many different other empires, none of whom have any other borders except mine, and most of whose borders abut my core territory, while their territory is rendered immune from attack by the nature of the terrain in question.
Basically, it generates a position wherein many players can do nothing except attack me, and I can do nothing except receive their attack.

I don't see how you not having those mountains makes your position worse. If anything it makes it better. As the map stands Ac Nut has more border with Ben than he does with you.

I can see the worry, that said, there's still plenty of empty land that doesn't border you. Who hasn't spoken up yet? Klavo are your necromancers in? Derek?
If either of you are reading, directly north of CT would be a good place or on the western coast south of Charon.

Not only do I border more with CT, but I'm only principality strength and I've been collaborating with CT for the purposes of having his frogs be a racial enemy of my nation. So I'm more likely to attack him than you, but I can play if you want me to Gen Havoc

Having or not having the mountains doesn't impact the position materially, save that if he's got them, then his border with me IS the mountains, which are unassailable, and my border with him is five or six provinces of open flatland, into which he can invade any time he likes. That however is simply the breaks sometimes, and I don't mind overmuch.
But I'd really rather not start the game as the only person with multiple, accessible borders, while all my neighbors are immune to retaliation, have no other borders, and have open lanes into my heartland.
It would really go a long way towards making things a lot easier if I could perhaps have the southernmost of the three mountain provinces that we overlapped in. That would render our border mutually difficult to cross, and give me at least a chance of defending myself. If that's not practical (and it might well not be, I'm not trying to screw ACnut out of his starting position), then I'd like some people to consider taking more territory, so as to give everyone a fair shot at having to look out for one another.
EDIT: There may be an easier way to do this. Frigid, are there any rules concerning how one is required to divy up their IC point values? Maximum point values for types of terrain, for instance?

AN, your border with CT is longer, yes, but if I'm reading the map right (and I might not be) it's a border between mountains and swamps. Obviously, I don't know the details, but as I see it, there is no functional way you guys can fight over that border. And a border that poses no actual threat isn't really what counts.Academia Nut wrote:Not only do I border more with CT, but I'm only principality strength and I've been collaborating with CT for the purposes of having his frogs be a racial enemy of my nation. If I'm jumping the gun in assuming that there's no way to fight in mountains or swamps, please let me know, because I'm more or less assuming that there is not.
