I heard a couple of things about fireflies, namely
a) That only the males light up at night, and
b) That only the males fly.
Are either (or both) of these true?

So there was an obvious solution to finding that out after all.
Seems that it's less common for females to fly or give off a light-show. But not impossible. Too bad it doesn't go into detail, but that's OK.

there are also predatory ones that mimic the return flashes of females to lure in males of other species... to eat them.
