#1 Monday, Monday, Monday
So with Earthdawn going away for awhile we are going to have to decide on a new Monday night game. Currently we have two main contenders, but the choices are not confined to them. Please feel free promote causes that are dear to your heart. That said, the two heavyweight contenders are:
1) FFG Star Wars with Hotfoot running the game. This will be his baby and I'll let him take the question and answer session on this but he has stated that he first intends to run a few play tests and then settle down into a campaign once he's comfortable with how the game runs at its various power levels and he can make decisions informed by experience. Jedi from the Force and Destiny beta are in.
2) Dark Ages Vampire in Constantinople run by me. Some of you played in it and dropped out, others of you didn't, and the rest of you last left off with dangerous enemies hungry for your blood and perhaps in need of friends.
Rogue Trader was considered, but several people expressed the feeling that they were uncomfortable advancing the game without frigid as he was important part of the command crew (for that read restraint on Lord-Captain Karakan).

Seeing as I don't like the whole alternating games thing in the first place, I would like to propose a third option: We now play Eclipse Phase every week.

Hey, I can restrain the Lord-Captain just fine with my army of elite ninja-assassins, my twinned sniper rifles of Ork Warboss-Decapitating, my bolter cane of Cthuloid rejection, and my ten thousands sets of poor-quality common clothing.
Stop judging me.
My vote is Vampire, of course. Not that I have anything against Star Wars, but it's less work for me to generate a new character and learn a new system, and I'm itching to kill motherfuckers what manifestly deserve it. I mean NPCs, not the rest of the players. Mostly.

Lys, that doesn't help address the whole Frigid-can't-play scheduling issue, since he's a player in the EP game.
As for the question at hand, I'm agnostic up until I happen to have a character concept coalesce for one or both systems, at which point I may have a preference one way or the other.

None of the options on the table address that issue, because none of the options involve suspending the Eclipse Phase game.

The problem is that Frigid's character has been a mainstay of that game too. So, we run into the same problem with running Eclipse Phase each week as we do with Rogue Trader. If Frigid has to be excluded due to circumstances, I don't want to rub salt in the wound by playing a game he was a major part of when he can't join.Lys wrote:None of the options on the table address that issue, because none of the options involve suspending the Eclipse Phase game.
I'd be okay with either the SW test-firing, or a continuance of the Dark Ages Vampire game - either way.

Are we not already playing a game he was a major part of when he can't join? If the goal is to avoid that, then the way to accomplish it is to suspend Eclipse Phase, not to continue it on the same schedule. Either we're fine with continuing without him, or we're not. Saying that it's okay to play it every other week but not every week seems rather half-assed to me.

We are not writing a constitution here. We are perfectly capable of saying that it's better to exclude Frigid from the Eclipse Phase game every other week than to do it every single week. I am not going to vote for what pastime I choose to engage in on Mondays based on what you think it is consistent for me to do. Suspending the Eclipse Phase game entirely is a completely separate question. We have every other Monday available and we can fill it with a game that does or does not rely on Frigid's presence, whether that game is Eclipse Phase or not.Lys wrote:Are we not already playing a game he was a major part of when he can't join? If you want to play Eclipse Phase every week, by all means say so, but please do not start telling me that I'm half-assing my leisure time by not being consistent with what I enjoy out of it.

Trying to reframe the argument from "let's have an alternate game for Mondays that doesn't exclude Frigid" to "to be consistent, we either have to play games he was a part of but can't be now (and by happy coincidence is the one I want to play), or we have to play no games at all" is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?Lys wrote:Are we not already playing a game he was a major part of when he can't join? We wouldn't want to exclude Frigid from something he enjoys (but can't due to circumstances) any more than we'd want to exclude you from the same.

That's not the point, but screw it, I'm in a sour mood and nothing good will come from this line of argument. My preference is for one game, but I am not particularly bothered by two. It's the least amount of work to continue the game we're already playing, and Frigid did not indicate that he wished us to suspend it. Nothing else needs to be said.

I think I see what you were trying to say Lys (maybe), and I get this rationale. But I've been hankering for a way to get back into Vampire hard. So there we are.Lys wrote:That's not the point the point was that... No, screw it, I'm in a sour mood and nothing good will come from this line of argument. A reminder, this still has yet to be decided, so as such we will hold council on the matter tonight.
#14 Re: Monday, Monday, Monday
I'm bringing this thread back up because I am going to be making a proposal.
I am potentially able to run games on specific sundays, which would free up Vampire: Dark Ages to be the sole Monday night game, with Star Wars to run every other week mixed with Night's Black Agents and whatever we do after NBA.
The downside is, due to my larping schedule, there will be weeks I will NOT be able to run the game. I may also pick up my second larp, which would make things MORE chaotic (and may necessitate my moving back to Monday nights). I will post schedules for when I will be out for the weekend, thus incapable of running anything.
Thoughts?

I like this. A bit of schedule chaos is easily manageable with a week's notice, or even a few days.

No problem with this on my end, and more Vampire is something i've been wanting, so i do like it quite a bit.
