Just as Colgate took her first step towards the waiting transbot, you hear a terrible shriek of metal followed by a squeal of overtaxed brakes. Seconds later, a second transbot slams into the rear of the first one, knocking it end over end and throwing shards of glass and bits of metal everywhere! The first transbot tumbled to a halt, twisted and burning, a few dozen meters away. The second transbot was now standing, more or less, at the platform. Though dented and missing its windows, it appeared to still be functioning. In fact, with a loud ratchet and clank, the grungy RED doors grinde open disconcertingly.

Right beside Colgate's foot was a smoking shard of steel, embedded into the floor. How lucky she was to avoid that disaster!

Looking at the mechanical mess, he gestured to John and smiled broadly. "After you!"

John's twitching had started again when the second Transbot rammed into the back of the first, he was certain the Miss Up and Stuff would have been having use of one of her clones....

Ah well, of course accidents would occur, even in a perfect society as Alpha Complex......

John smiled benignly, but gestured for Colgate, "I beleive the expression is, 'Ladies first'"

She smiled at the one who'd called her "lady" and gestured to the platform.

"Then I believe it would be you first, friend," she said with a polite smile.

He ushered up behind John, practically pushing him into the tube.

Some survival instinct told him the safest spot was the middle of the group, since most bad things tended to happen to the one in front or the one behind.

And he was ushered into the rather beaten machine, muttering to himself.

He took a seat and looked around, aside from broken glass being everywhere, the Transbot's interior seemed....marginally undamaged.

He paused, looking for the most likely spot to survive another collision, then settled down next to John, figuring the other Red would provide an ideal impact cushion.

She followed as well, taking a seat after clearing the broken glass from her general area. Wouldn't want to be sitting on a piece of that.

Interestingly enough, unlike most of the other transbots in this sector, theirs didn't seem to be crowded.

In fact, they were the only passengers aboard the thing. Not that that was a bad thing: after all, had anyone else been riding, they might have been injured fairly badly!

John had the sinking sensation he was being set up....

But he pushed that tothe back of his mind for the moment. Surely thier Transbot wouldn't get into another accident....

Then again, odder things have happened.

As the three troubleshooters enter the transbot the doors slowly sliding closed once more with the sound of grinding gears. If they were to look out the broken windows they would see the other Citizens that were waiting for the transbot huddled against the back wall, well away from the deathtrap that has just arrived.

With the sound of rusted gears grinding and the smell of overheated machine oil the transbot slowly pulled away from the station. The transbot interior looks like any bus or subway car. Seats, handrails, loyalty posters, more seats - that's about it. A minute or so into its journey the transbot enters a dark tunnel. A few hundred yards into the tunnel, the vehicle grinds to a halt. The lights go out. A recorded voice says, 'Attention, passengers. The Computer's loyal servants in Central Processing have introduced schedule adjustments to improve efficiency. To this end, this vehicle will pause for two minutes before resuming its journey. To conserve energy the lights will now be dimmed. Do not be alarmed. The lights will be turned on again when the journey resumes.'

John was startled as the man next to him jumped in the chair and screamed.

Twice.

In his ear.

John glanced back, then he himself joined in the screaming.

Half deafened by John's scream, he couldn't quite make out what Colgate said. Instead, John's scream inspired a fresh scream from him as he climbed over his seat and tried to hide behind the other Red.

Again, John's ear was shouted in, and his scream continued.

It took a few minutes, before he got away from his seat, which the other man had hidden behind, and glared at the woman.

She felt the one man trying to climb behind the other, one of whom incidentally brushed against her jumpsuit, startling her into a scream as well.

As soon as John moved, he stayed right behind him. If anything came for them in the dark, like say a Commie subversive team of murderer-propagandists, the other Troubleshooter would take the heat.

Colgate froze, hearing the two men shift around and not able to tell exactly what they were doing. Not that she'd want to get involved--the dark was a dangerous place, and although the two had claimed to be Troubleshooters, she wasn't sure she believed them.

So she sat quietly, hand on the hilt of her laser, waiting out the time in the dark.

He felt the person sticking behind him, turned around quickly, screamed and jumped back, right into Colgate.

He then proceeded to scream right in her ear.

A laserblast fires out in the darkness, a red flash that blinds everyone and then suddenly disappears just as quickly. There is a soft cry of pain and then silence. The thump of a body is heard.

The lights came back to life just as quickly as they had gone out. The dead body of John-R-BKL-1 is on the ground, a smoking hole through his torso. The stench of burnt flesh eminates throughout.
"Thank you for your paitence, Citizens. The mandatorily scheduled maintenance has been completed. We appreciate your paitence. Have a nice daycycle."

The transbot suddenly accelerated to breakneck speeds, wheels squeeling their protest as it jostled down the track. At irregular intervals the transbot jumped, its wheels jumping the tracks nearly, threatening to overturn the transbot. The rapid movement threw all the troubleshooters to the floor and abruptly shifted their orientation as quickly as they found it, causing them to slide from side to side, front to back, colliding with seats, the walls, and each other.

Piped music sounded through the transbot cab as it continued its suicidal journey.

The song goes on though you can no longer hear it over the screeching of the brakes. The transbot came to an abrupt halt, throwing the team towards the back of the transbot. It has stopped in front of another RED platform. With a cough or two, the motor dies and the transbot moves no more. The lights die though the lights of the Transbot station provide enough light to see by. A sign hanging above the wall reads "Welcome to SPD Sector!" Beneath the sign are three doors, which you can just make out the words on them from here. You see a RED door labeled SPD30/C125, a YELLOW door labeled SPD15/C120, and a BLUE door labeled SPD75/C80.

Colgate didn't have much time to regard the body as they were jostled around on the journey, finall slowing to a halt. She took a moment to re-part her hair and looked to Jim with a snort and a laugh.

"Wild ride," she said, standing. She then looked down to the body.

"Should we... Take him...? Or just leave it here...?"

He looked to the left and right.

"We are not authorized to do that," he said studiously. "After all, Friend Computer will obviously want to have loyal Troubleshooters investigate this diabolical Commie plot to assassinate one of his able Red class citizens."

That said, he quickly crouched over the body to rifle through John's pockets and remove his de-barreled laser pistol and ME card.

"However, we cannot leave important equipment laying around for Commie traitors to steal," he said, pocketing everything he found quickly.
