Melanie looked to the two.

"I can't send Dorian," she said matter-of-factly. "He's running the infirmary practically single-handed now."

She mulled it over. Although Gil had been manning the radios, he was just as competent a doctor as any the Guard had.

"What about Sheehan?" she asked.

"Sheehan's solid," Marley said.

Freddy nodded, then shifted uneasily. "We need to hurry. She's held out this long..."

Transiting to the building was the most perilous part. Dozens of shamblers moved through the streets, wary and hungry, looking for meat. The 1st creeped across, making their way into the second floor window. When the last was through, Petro exhaled a small sigh of relief, fingers clenching tight then relaxing on the hilt of his machete.

No guns in here. The commotion would draw entirely too much unfavorable attention. He took the lead as they crept toward the elevators.

"Got a point there," she said. Melanie used Freddy's radio to call Gillian up to the rooftop.

When he finally arrived, it was with a bleary-eyed yawn.

"First ya interrupt me an' poor Jules when we're playin' poker, now while I'm sleepin'?" he asked, looking to Melanie. "You're a slavedriver."

He then looked to all three of them, noticing that they weren't laughing. Melanie explained the plan and he nodded along.

"Aye, I can help with that," he said after she'd finished.

"Get your gear then," Freddy said. Marley glanced at him and nodded. This was a Guard gig, technically, so he'd defer to the other man for running the show.

"I already got it," Gil said. "Carry it on me at all times."

Melanie looked to the three men, took a deep breath.

"I don't know how many of you saw the guy who brought Silver and Carter back," she said, "but upon first glance, he won't look like a human. But he's on our side, guys, please don't blow this..."

"We were there," Marley pointed out. "Remember?"

Freddy was already heading for the elevator. Marley gave her a thumbs-up before turning and following.

Gil was staring. "Well I bloody well wasn't!" he said, confused.

"They'll tell you on the way," Melanie assured him, clapping him on the shoulder.

He followed the two men reluctantly as she called out a well-wishing.

"Look forward to it. We'll roll the red carpet out and everything." Mike turned the radio off and leaned backwards over his newly-stolen chair.

"Heard it?" He asked with a grin and an upside-down raised eyebrow.

Down and off they set, filling Gil in before they left the perimeter.

Unlike the 1st, they weren't moving with such an emphasis on stealth, trading safety for speed.

Sherry was sitting behind him, loudly chewing on a pack of resin bubblegum she'd found in a stray desk drawer. It was stale as hell, but it helped the oral fixation, as she figured smoking down there might not be the best idea. And while there were other ways to deal with said fixation, she wasn't going to indulge them during that particular situation.

"Eh?" she asked, not having been paying much attention.

"The gang's coming." He said, getting up and heading for the computer wing's doors. "We better get one of the lifts out of the way, unless we want Petro Puree for dinner."

"I don't plan on eating anyone but you, doll," she said with a toothy grin. She then stood, hefted her axe.

"Fine, fine, fine," she said. "Clean-up crew for a party I didn't even get to go to, eh?"

"We'll throw our own." He said with a grin of his own.

When they got to the doors, Mike pulled open a metal box attached to the wall, revealing a palm scanner. He put his hand on it and waited, a green light flashing once he was done. A little lens popped out of the box, so he pulled off his glasses and leant infront of it. A flash left him blinking, but a second light came on.

"One to go." He commented, pushing the glasses back onto the bridge of his nose. He tapped a speaker set into the wall, cleared his throat and said:

"Freeman, Michael Isadore Lancelot."

He peered back at her with an odd expression on his face.

The last light came on, and the door unlocked with a little click.

"Right!" Mike said, loudly. He pushed through the door. "Lifts!" He continued, still loudly.

She followed, the tiniest amused chuckle escaping her lips. Although she wasn't one to talk about names - Zelhart wasn't exactly common nor aesthetically pleasing to eye or ear.

"So," she said, "what now?"

"Well, I doubt any of the lifts are safe to use anymore." He said, pointing at the banks of computers, then shaking his head and moving on. "But I'll try to call one down here so it won't fall on their heads like ours nearly did." He found the appropriate computer and typed something quickly.

"There we go." He said, pleased.

Sherry stared at the computer the way a man might stare at a talking animal.

"How you people work all that is beyond me," she said, shaking her head a bit.

The team quickly and efficiently rigged a rappel line to take them down the shaft. One by one, they zipped down, boots thudding on the roof of the lift, then dropping through the maintenance hatch.

"Alright, where are the shamblers we're supposed to be killing? Got any precious gear we shouldn't destroy in their vicinity?" Petro asked enthusiastically.

"Just a sec." Mike yelled from inside the room. He tapped something else in and turned to Sherry with a little smile. "I just unlocked all the doors." He confided, the look on his face saying Thank God I don't have to say my name again.

He emerged and pointed to the bloodstained doors. "Thataway, and try not to blow up anything fragile-looking."

"Stay with the hand weapons, boys and girls," he said, moving up with the machete at ready. "At least three, figure on more. This could get interesting."

Mike grabbed the doors and pulled them open, sidestepping quickly to take himself out of the line of fire, so to speak.

Inside, there was a long, dry drag mark leading off into a dark room. A lab-coated corpse lay propped against a wall, its throat missing.
