Post by Destructionator XV »

KAN sent me a quick message last night saying he hasn't been online for a few days and probably won't be on for at least a few more because his father died over the weekend. He says hi to all of us.

I'd like to express my condolences for his loss.

Thanks, folks. Thank you very much. Really.

We should have expected it; my dad's condition had been dropping drastically since the surgery to remove his prostate cancer, and even before that, he had always been suffering from diabetes, high chlolesterol level, and high blood pressure.

But even during his last days, he was still full of live. Some weeks ago, when I went to my parent's home in the city of Bandung, we were out to see the movie Memoirs of Geisha (dad always wanted to see the movie), and despite his deterioriating health, he was still eager to go out. Even when he was at home, suffering from constant pain on his arms and legs (the doctor said it was some kind of nerve disorder, like what happened on his spine when he was young), I always heard him playing his favorite CDs like Nana Mouskouri or The Brothers Four over the phone whenever he or mom called me. He always love The Brothers Four, particularly; he always love folks and country music.

I've never expected it myself. I just happened to visit Bandung last weekend (four hours travel from Jakarta) when, during the middle of the trip, mom called me to get home soon because dad was getting worse. When I arrived home, he was indeed getting worse but none of us expected he would have passed away. Even four hours before his death, he still managed to raise from his bed and smoked his favorite cigarrete.

Yet I guess I have to be thankful because, since his deterioriated condition, all his wishes were fulfilled: First, he always wanted to die at home instead of the hospital. Second, he wanted to die surrounded by mom, me, and my little brother. Third, he always wanted to die smooth, without enduring a long period of comatose state or other kind of suffering.

But heck, none of us really expected that; especially mom. She loves dad so much and she had never been ready to lose him. Since the prostate surgery, dad often told mom (and sometimes jokingly) his wishes before he died, and mom often dismissed him while insisting that he should have stayed alive no matter what.

She loves dad so much.

Damn, none of us were ready to lose him.

Thanks again for your support, folks. We really appreciate it.

So be it. If saying "NO" means being alone, then to hell with love, with romance, with marriage, and all the shit life keeps pumping at me. I'll walk alone, but with freedom and a healed pride.

Sweetheart, I know how hard it is to lose a loved one. My grandma died about a year ago, and like your father, despite her health, none of us saw it coming, that is to say we weren't ready for it. It's tough, but like Linny said, you have the memories, keep them close.

My best wishes to you and yours honey. It'll all be ok.

Thanks, buddy. She's always strong as usual. I'm going to Bandung again next week nonetheless.

And thanks again, everyone. My mom sent her regards and thanks as well.
