'I'll just nip in to find Shadow Hearts: Convenant'.
Yea, we saw how well that worked out. And not a copy in any of the Gamestop's.

DS, it's not the fact that I walked out with just one game. It's the fact that it's a MonsterRancher game, which means gathering up every CD and DVD in the house to see what monster it makes. Music, computer, movie... it doesn't matter, there's a monster to be found. I've already found a Skeletal Dragon, on my my Craobh Rua CD. "JimmyBuffet: Live at Fenway Park" holds monsters that I can't get until I'm further into the game, as did my lil'brother's one album "UnderAuthority: Too Late".Dark Silver wrote:Shadow Hearts Convenant?

I think you're all missing the point of this thread.
A new Monster Rancher game?! Why was I not informed earlier?!?!
Please tell more! More! More! How are the battles? And the graphics? Any new breeds? More importantly, are most of the old breeds still around? Phoenix?? I want a new Phoenix! And I've always wanted to actually breed Phoenix with something, anything. Other than Durahan in MR2. That doesn't count.
The only problems with Monster Rancher are they take up a lot of free time and I've noticed a significant change in the speed of the disk tray opening and closing in my PS2...
This news has made my day, LadyTevar. And I've had quite a day, full of Metal Gear Solid, Mega Man, Gundam, and Worms 2...

They have Tiger, Suezo, Pixie, Mocchi, Rabbit/Bunny, Jell (MR4 look), Golem, Joker, Dragon, Plant, Naga, Ducken, Mew, Garu (MR4), Gitan (MR4), Raiden (MR4), Leshae (MR4), Beaklon (MR 3/4), and the Zan (MR4 weird insect-thingie that you saw in her dreams and fought in the Cave adventures). Yet to see a Pheonix, sorry. I've yet to see a Zuum either, but they'll be there, they always are. The two new critters I've seen are the Piroro, which look like a BlackMage face in clown garb, and a winged cat that is the first adventure's bossmonster.
The graphics are sweet, very bright, colorful, and fun to watch. The monster training is pretty simple, you don't even have to worry about feeding your monsters, it's taken care of for you. You may have to go to town and get items for them occassionally, tho. But the trainer has to do some training too, since you're putting on performances where your skill at mini-games will not only make your monster perform better, but earn you money. Speed and coordination are a must on those buggers.
I'm still getting used to the battles. Like MR4, you take 3 monsters in the adventures, but they're all in the battle at once. You can set them up beforehand to be short, mid, or long range when they enter combat, and then they move up/back. That can be annoying... once you move them they don't stop until they meet their comrade, or til they hit an opponent's range.
Attacks have the same ranges as before, but I don't know how many they'll be able to use in each range. Allied monsters can join up (stand in same range) to link their attacks and regain Guts faster. Guts is a joint pool all monsters can draw from, which can be nasty if you've one monster with a 14guts attack, but the other monsters need 20guts. Use the 14guts, and all monsters are back to 0. Get all three in a link with 50+Guts, and you can use a "Union Attack"... the last one I managed to pull off did 1000+damage EACH MONSTER.
One thing I don't know if I like or not is how you gain new attacks. When you fight the stray monsters, you gain 'Anima' points. These points then can be used to buy Attacks or Traits (like MR4's) to customize your monster. Unfortunately, the starting attacks are 500pts, the better ones 2000 or more. You are lucky to leave a battle with 10pts. Anima points can also be spent to raise the number of times you can use the Union Attack.
Still, I'm only 6 weeks into the game so far, but I'm enjoying it so far. Once I kill that damn winged kitty, maybe I can get some more tricks for my monsters to learn for the circus performance, since the tricks/performances are what raises the monster's stats. I'm hoping to find a FAQ/Walkthrough on the web soon to get some hints.

Sounds quite awesome. Are the adventures like MR4 still, or did they revamp that again? And do you know if you can battle others online? Because that would make this game beyond awesome.
I'm quite excited about this now. As soon as I get the money, I'm definitely going to check it out.

They're better than MR4. More freedom to move, a map that shows where enemies/chests are in the upper right corner, and the ability to see a stray monster and avoid it if you can. Your monsters can still find hidden items, as well as have the ability to be sent forward to remove obsticles by themselves. The larger ones, like my golem, can be ridden from the start, no need to learn that move (which never worked for me either way on MR4).Something Awesome wrote:Sounds quite awesome. That's excellent news. The random battles often got annoying in MR4, especially when riding along on my Phoenix while he's flying, just to be interrupted by something like a Zuum.
I'll miss my Phoenix, though. It seems like it only shows up in the even numbered ones. We'll see if that theory holds when the inevitable MR6 comes out.

It's been a while since I played it, but I'm fairly certain it was similar to MR2, in that you had to go on an adventure to a volcano. In MR4, I believe the volcano is the last place you can go to adventure, and you have to go there a bunch of times, going deeper each time. At the end of like 10 floors, there's this crazy boss that's tough...I remember doing some huge combined attack with my Garu, Pixie, and Tiger, and it still came down to a lucky hit to finish him. I think that was "beating the game," in the sense that credits rolled after it.
My memory fades after that, so I looked at a walkthrough, and it said that about two weeks after that, a Phoenix feather just appears, then a Phoenix will come to ask you to raise Phoenixes.

I personally prefer the über-sexiness that is the Titan's RX-178 Gundam Mk. II from Zeta Gundam. Easily the best suit in Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam for it's versatility, awesome reloading ability, hot beam saber action, and general badassitude. I love the Titan color scheme, and even painted my RX-79[G] Gundam model in those colors.B4UTRUST wrote:If it's got Deathscythe Hell Custom what other mecha do you need?
And besides, Deathscythe Hell kicks the crap out of DH Custom. Same's true for just about all of the Gundams from Wing. But I'll take Universal Century suits over any Alternate Universe suit any day.

Sounds innovative. Actually, this is the kind of innovation I would like to see after 3D graphics become a very common thing.LadyTevar wrote: DS, it's not the fact that I walked out with just one game. So be it. If saying "NO" means being alone, then to hell with love, with romance, with marriage, and all the shit life keeps pumping at me. I'll walk alone, but with freedom and a healed pride.

I Remember playing the original game. We tried every Cd in our collective collection . vcds, ps, saturn, imports. we found that one Hong Kong game cd made a powerful dinosaur type creature . It's that's were very high . You could be the most people within . I never played the second incarnation war in the newest one but considering how my DVD and CD collection czar I could probably get some very cool looking monsters .
