#1 What's your most favorite music genre?
Frankly, I don't think classification of musical styles is possible in any logically consistent way. It's impossible to list every single genre. On the other hand, being too general means that some genres will be left out. So I try to be "balanced" between being too general and too detailed.
So what's your music genre, and what's your favorite artist in the genre?
EDIT: What I mean by R&B "Jazz, Blues, Soul, or R&B" is actually the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Whitney Houston, Erykah Badu, and Brand New Heavies. Most tunes performed by Destiny's Child or Missy Elliot fall into the category of "Contemporary R&B".
Non-Dance Electronic are mostly things you hear when you're playing Cafe del Mar Chill House, Buddha Bar, or listening to game tunes like Command & Conquer (either the original C&C or Red Alert). "Digital Hardcore" is the thing you hear from Prodigy, The Crystal Meth, or early Chemical Brothers albums (now they're moving to House. It Begins on Africa, anyone?)
IMO, Digital Hardcore, among Ska or Punk, would make a suitable music for masturbation. Especially without lube.
I guess Hip Metal (Linkin' Park, Limp Bizkit) falls into the category of rock, because although they have rappin' lyrics, the only other thing similar to hip-hop is merely the beat, and even that is not always the case.
I forgot to add "Mainstream Pop"; you know, things like Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, or boys band. Not all of them are bad, though. An example of good mainstream are Robbie William's songs like Millenium, Feel, or Supreme.

I can't subscribe to favoring any "genre" of music. Frankly, most of the music I listen to is quite assorted and I have no idea what would fit in any genre group (because I honestly don't care).

I guess you're listening to 1941 music as well. :PRobert Walper wrote:If you mean said music was created after 1940...yes.Kreshna Aryaguna Nurzaman wrote: Are they mostly top-fourties?
Ah, another vote. I guess I know who's the one voted for the "Rock" genre. He who listened to metal when I listened to Vanilla Ice; he who danced on punk concert while I danced on rave party. Guess whom I'm talking about? ;)

So be it. If saying "NO" means being alone, then to hell with love, with romance, with marriage, and all the shit life keeps pumping at me. I'll walk alone, but with freedom and a healed pride.

Its going to have to be Rock, not the trashy heavy metal of doom, but medium rock, where you can actually a) hear the Lyrics b) a Frontman who can actually sing in the first place.

Gothic rock is my favorite, especially Evanescence. Out of those songs, I'd have to list Whisper as my favorite, followed closely by Bring Me To Life.
That is all.

Does Roxette count?Dartzap wrote:Its going to have to be Rock, not the trashy heavy metal of doom, but medium rock, where you can actually a) hear the Lyrics b) a Frontman who can actually sing in the first place.
Alright, I maybe a non-conformist elitist in Electronics (even DJ Tiesto starts sounding mainstream), but when it goes to Rock, I'm a shameless mainstream lover.
Ah, Bring Me To Life. Always love that song. It would make a good Lovecraftian movie theme song, IMO (about something that "waking up"). I always think that the song (melody-wise, and composition-wise. Never care too much about lyrics) is more suitable for a horror movie theme than Daredevil.Ra wrote:Gothic rock is my favorite, especially Evanescence. Video game music, which kinda classifies as classical. And Star Wars and Star Trek soundtracks.

I do have. Gimme some time to extract it, though (I play directly from the .AUD file using Game Audio Player). Do you have email account that allows attachment of 4 megs or such?Dartzap wrote:Hell March, Baby!
.. Damn.. i must find the soundtrack for that.. dammit..
EDIT: Frank Klepacki always rules (alright, this is a fanwank). I still don't understand why they don't yet putting him on the same gallery with Moby, Sasha, Chicane, or the Crystal Methods.

How good is the quality, by the way? Most C&C music downloads I got are low kbps MP3. That's why I mostly play directly from the .AUD file.Dartzap wrote:actually, no point, i have the link to the file planet site that has the music for everysingle C&C game in flashform.

I listen to Classic Rock. Zepplin, Dire Straits, Hendrix, Ozzy, etc. I also love Johnny Cash, as I was raised on his music.

Back to the topic, I guess most of us choose rock as their primary preference. In fact, the only non-rock choices are:
Destructionator: Classical & Opera. Game tunes and such.
The Sick, Twisted Fuck: Non-dance Electronics. The Prodigy and the likes.

I love classic (especially Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Ravell...) but listen on a daily basis to a lot of rock.
My favorite music type however is soundtracks (Usually from movies or video games)

Gothic/Industrial.
Techno and Dance Electronic was listed, but I do not consider dark Electronic in that category.
I do like harder rock/metal like Seether and Disturbed quite a bit. I call them my Angry Man music.
I also like Celtic music a lot - Loreena McKennitt, Clannad and Enya.
Girl Rock - Veruca Salt, Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, etc.
Frankly, anything musical that makes me think. I like intellectual lyrics - though it is not the only thing, and look at the entire picture, so i DO pay attention to the lyrics.
Tool is my favorite band, although neither industrial or goth.
Some of my club favorites are Wumpscut, Android Lust, KMFDM, Bauhaus, Cruxshadows, Beborn Beton, Covenant, Sisters of Mercy, Type o Negative, Tapping the Vein, etc.
I do love nostalgia as well. 80s for sure. 90s - grunge rock especially.
