Malk knows Astinius as an old companion of a nature that was never delved into. They're close friends with a friendly rivalry over the nature of Netheril's downfall: Was it inevitable, or was it a strong empire brought low by Karsus' madness? And if the latter, should it be revived?

Torma just knows Malk is glowy and thinks he's Netherese but can't be Netherese because they all died so you can't be so who are you really and AUGH I JUST CHANNELED BABY DRAGON!

So we seem to be agreed. Characters will need to be what they were at the beginning of the cluster fuck, not the end. Lady and gentlemen, you know what to do. Get me the info, as best as you can reconstruct, when you can.

From what was established early on in the game, Gaheris knew Astinius, and Malkamar through him, prior to the campaign's start.

As an aside, I wanted to smite Dahak myself, as he irritates the hell out of me in every game we've played in, but Torma flies faster than winged boots. *Shrug*

Malk is going to be the same level but a different build. The Spellfire Prestige classes were so broken I'm ashamed.

Sneak preview time! Okay, here's what I wrote on Gaheris' return to Westgate back when I started writing that fic I keep talking about but haven't quite gotten around to posting yet. ( ) [quote]Westgate, 30th of Kythorn, 1372 DR

Gaheris hadn’t seen Westgate in a long time. When he had left the city, he had been a boy of fourteen years, fleeing scared from the Night Masks after interfering with one of their operations and killing the thieves involved. That was ten years ago.

Now, he was returning to the city of his ignominious birth a lord of the church of Tyr and leader of a fledgling holy order. He absentmindedly looked across the campfire in the general direction of Coaan and Astinius while harkening back to the events that precipitated his return to Westgate with his companions.

But now wasn’t the time for reverie. The street urchin turned paladin shook himself out of it and looked out over the river at the lights of Westgate. The spires of the Abbey of the Blinding Truth stood tall, white, and illuminated over the city center, an inspiring beacon of law and order. But there too, and not five blocks away, towered the black edifice of the House of Spires and Shadows, the largest temple to Mask in the Realms, in fact one of the only ones that was openly displayed. ‘And that’s our problem,’ thought Gaheris grimly. The monks and justiciars of the hierarchy might look at that sight and see only petty thieves to be brought to justice like any others, but the old rogue, who knew Westgate’s shadowy power structure better than almost anyone else on the outside of it, saw a different picture. The thieves were the real power in the metropolis, and all the trials of petty pickpockets in the world wouldn’t change that.

And that wasn’t the only problem. Gaheris’ trained eye shifted to another building on the skyline, outlined by the last light of the setting sun. The arena of the Quivering Thumb, one of the only bastions of slave-supported blood sport west of Thay, loomed at the southern edge of Westgate, a reminder of the “civilizedâ€

A few house rules

Spell Focus and Spell Power are as 3.0

This isn't an excuse to go absolutely crazy, just a response to what is in my opinion, excessive nerfing. This isn't an excuse to go crazy so while do take advantages of these changes, don't start an arms race.

Reactive Counterspelling Feat is banned.

At the moment, I have no idea what a Shadowsmith is (other than the obvious connotations of the name). I'm still going to permit it.

Yea, but looking at the setup of PC's, it'd be a bit silly.

As for Shadowsmith, it's from Tome Of Magic. Basically, specializes in creating stuff from raw shadowstuff on the fly. His stuff can only be used by him.

Some people have been questioning why Torma doesn't have more magic items.

Ya know.. tha's a good question. Suggestions welcome, pending DM approval.
