Well, as some of you know, I was toying around with full transparancy a while ago in my graphical windows, making by browser background and terminal windows transparent so I could see my desktop. Trasnaparance also allows windows to fade in and out when youj move the mouse over them and cast shadows on other windwos and the desktop.
This is something Linux has partially supported for sometime with addons, and something Windows Vista is going to carry standard.
My question is why? When I was toying with it, it looked nice for a while, but I found it made seeing what was going on in the windows, reading text, etc much harder, so I turned it back off. IMO, the added diffuculty of reading stuff with it makes the eye candy aspect useless.
Does anyone have ane reasons on why it would be good? Why Microsoft and some Linux sects are making such a big deal about this when there are plenty more important things to do?

I think what Vista is doing is more transperency when needed, rather then all times transperency.
