Gasmasks win, all they need is a touch, and the kid was very powerful and the nanobots kept regenerating him, it's unlikely that you could kill him without blasting him into small gibbets

Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much: the wheel, New York, wars while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in water having a good time.

Given the Nanogenes become airborne before it's reset, the gasmasks utterly rape the traditional zombies. They brought the kid from fatally wounded to Zombie to healthy human. Hell, they regenerated a leg.
