"Hmm... Indeed. But hold on a moment. FOrgive me but I have not used most of these in some time"
He reached into a pocket of his robes and pulled out a black disk which seemed to absorb all light around it and placed it on the wall. Then he reached inside.
The first thing he pulled out was a mace which seemed to hum as it touched the air. He placed that in a clip on his belt.
The second thing he pulled out was a black cloak which was a perfect darkness, seeming to absorb all light and echo sound back at listner.
Then he pulled out a crossbow and quiver which he slung over his shoulder and other hip respecticively.
Then a set of bracers was pulled out. One of them, when slipped on his forearm made his skin flash slightly, the other had no discernable effect.
The last thing he pulled out was from a pocket in his robe. He slipped the small bejeweled ring on his finger and around him flashed a prismaric array of colors which soon subsided
"I apologize for that. I have been retired for over a decade" he said, as the portable hole was peeled off the wall and shoved back into his pocket.

For a few brif moments, Vincent chants and moved his hands in quick motions that only the fastest of eyes could catch.
The group vanished from their location in candlekeep and materialized with a loud popping sound a hundred meters from the south gate. Even there the smells and sounds of the massive city reached their ears as smoke from co0oking fires billowed up from almost every single home and inn. It was breakfast time, and a city, like an army, marched on it's stomach.
The city itself was huge, and centered around a mountain castle which overlooks the deep harbor. The city itself was situated on a plateu, which madea good portion of it's northeastern side mostly immune to land-based attacks. The city was nonetheless fortified with a wall which completely encompasses the city. Several meters thick and 12 meters high with crenellated battlements and toeers space evenly throughout. Even the islands in the harbor had walls and were connected by a series of chains which would bar entry into the harbor in times of war.
Griffon rider patrols were visible patrolling the skies above the city, and even at this distance anyone who has the ability to detet magic will see the area surround the city, including the area immediatly in front of them, abuzz with power.

"Waterdeep. Yay...." Jernei muttered, staring at the city with antipathy and distaste. "I would prefer that we get in and get out as quickly as possible, there are several here whom wish me dead or worse. Something about certain ships vanishing while trying to attack merchantships along the coast."
That's her story and she's sticking too it. Which of course leaves out a certain mage of the city, various guards who have had run-ins with her, a paladin or two, and assorted brigands.

Brother Tormenta drew his coat around himself and buttoned it closed, he disliked cities they clashed with his ideologies a bit. Not only that he felt confined and limited in his actions most individuals in a city did not like it if one decided to suddenly run up the side of a building. He nodded in agreement to Jernei’s “I would not wish to spend more time here than was necessary myselfâ€

"There's a ward against Dragons in this city. So you'll excuse me for not wanting to dawdle. So it seems all of us want a quick run through this. I'll go look into my contact; should we split up, or stay together?" Blackclaw mentioned.

"Stay together most certainly" Tormenta responded instantly, he had only been to Waterdeep twice before and the experiences had not ended well. He had been facing temptation as per his training by sitting in a bar and not consuming alcohol or joining in the revelry unfortunately a fight broke out which drew him in. It took clerics several days to remove the broken chair from the drunk dwarf's rectum, and Tormenta had been asked to never come back to the bar. Though he had been approached by a group of drunken boxers shortly there after, leading to his second night in Waterdeep but he did not want to even think about that.SirNitram wrote:"There's a ward against Dragons in this city. “We should meet your contact as quickly as possible then leave considering three of our four are not well liked here.â€

"Would that be Irthos?" Jernei asked her friend. "He's been working with Eberk lately, something about saltpeter from the cave. I think they're discussing explosives... of course, she's also eying him as a mate, I think."SirNitram wrote:"There's a ward against Dragons in this city. Odd conversation with a kobold, isn't it. "Oh, and I hope you're not planning to walk into Waterdeep like that. I don't feel like rescuing guardsmen from you again."

Blackclaw shifted, twisted, and seemed to inflate. Golden scales became dark skin, hair sprouted, his face softened and changed. A few moments later, a Gold Dwarf stood where he had, checking that his gear had shifted correctly. "This should do. But that ward is still going to mess with my senses. Let's go."

She tilts her head, looking over the dwarven shape critically. "That should work, yes. And I feel your pain, Black... or do you have another name for this shape?"

"Am I the only one with good relations in this city? Still, I suppose that it would be wise to be quick and stay together" The mage rolled his eyes. Of course he did find everything to be fairly ammusing. What with the guard rescuing. Still, he wouldnt show that to anyone.

Jernei followed the old sage, still playing 'catchup' with her old friend, which should give the quiet monk with them quite an earful.
"So, how is the mine doing, anyway? Is the pocket still expanding, or have you found the limit to it yet?"

Tormenta followed behind Vincent, he didn’t much care for cities and he truly did not want to get lost in the maze of streets and alleys.Comrade Tortoise wrote:"Am I the only one with good relations in this city? "Still expanding steadily but slowly." 'Blackbeard'.. For indeed, the beard he had conjured was midnight black.. replied. "We hit a nice seam of adamantine a few weeks back. It's the Abyss' own work to get it out, but it's worth it."LadyTevar wrote:Jernei followed the old sage, still playing 'catchup' with her old friend, which should give the quiet monk with them quite an earful.

There was a distinct glitter to her eye at that information. "Oh yes... indeed it is..." Jernei answered with only a touch of avarice. "After we are done here, we'll have to discuss a fair exchange...." She remembered herself suddenly, glancing back to the sage and the monk. "Of course.. I'm sure Master Vincent may know of a couple fine smiths who could turn the ore into very useful items... for a fair price...."SirNitram wrote: "Still expanding steadily but slowly." 'Blackbeard'.. (sorry about the dely friends, tried to move out of my apartment but that fell through... grr Oh well, I have until the 24th)
Finally they reached the gates. They were open and the Watch was hardly checking the throngs of people who were passing in and out of the City of Splendors. A group clad in armor and carrying numerous weapons on the other hand raised eyebrows and they Watch stopped them.
"Halt fair travelers. State your names and business"
To which Vincent replied
"I am VIncent Guage Mystic Theurge to Mystra and Loremaster and Master of Ancient Lore in Candlekeep. My business involves procurement of supplies and equipment, as well as certain information."

"I am Tundar, of the Vuthagix clan, south of Halruaa." The dwarf spoke in a decidedly strange, halting accent. "I am here to trade with a distant cousin of mine."
Of course, if the guard understood Draconic, that jig would be up. But it wasn't his fault; Dwarves had stupid, unpronouncable names. Well, unpronouncable to proper jaws.

The city was massive. Bustling with humans and humanoids of all shapes sizes colors and to those who could detect such things alignments. The stench of a combination of food and human excrement. Thankfully for everyone's health the city had excellent sanitation.

Jernei had managed to keep from laughing up to the point where the monk asked the -dwarf- about his cousin.
"Tundar." she snickered, knowing not only the source of the language but the meaning of it as well. "You called yourself Tundar... of the black-claw clan." giggle-snicker "Couldn't you come up with something better?"

"I do not often have to worry of such things, and I rarely assume this pathetic race's form." The natural arrogance of his kind shining through, 'Tunder' stalked onwards. "Come. This inn is the place he conducts business. If he's got any information on the theives, he'll tell us."
