Welcome to Alpha Complex! It is the future. There was a terrible war a long time ago, and all humanity was placed in Alpha Complexs. The Old Reckoning was horrible, and Alpha Complex is much more fun and healthy. Instead of rutting like disgusting animals, Friend Computer, the absolutely unfailing computer which runs Alpha Complex, now clones all humans and suppresses those filthy hormones, allowing a much more safe and happy society. In it's relentless fight against Communism, Friend Computer has instituted a completely planned economy, with each giving according to their ability and receiving according to.. <End Transmission>
That's the kind of world you're told about. As you can tell, it's mostly Bullhooey.
A while ago, you were the bottum of hte food chain, an INFRARED clearance citizen. Life would have sucked, were you not constantly high on happy-drugs. But you found someone committing treason(Possibly by seeming unhappy despite Friend Computer's many attempts to cheer them up with planned spontaneous singalongs), turned them in, and got promoted to RED.
As a RED, you've gotten a better job, something kinda close to privacy, and aren't drugged up all the time. Also, because you found a Traitor, Computer trusts you to find Traitors, Mutants, and members of Secret Societies, and either kill them or present them to Computer to kill.
Problem: You're a mutant. You have some kind of mutant power. There's a sheet in the thirty pages where you roll a 20 sided dice and come up with a power. You've hidden it so far, but being a Mutant is traitor.
(NOTE: If you want, you can register being a mutant. This means you're the scapegoat and looked down upon, but might help with being a newbie. There's a higher standard of evidence for killing a registered mutant, and you can use your power without fretting on it too much.)
Problem: You're a member of a secret society. This too are randomly chosen. You were recruited back in your INFRARED, constantly high days. Now you're a RED, they often want you to do things for them. Being a member of a secret society, even one in support of Friend Computer, is treason.
Problem: You're a traitor. Treason is easy to committ in Alpha Complex, partially because so many things are Treason, partially because Friend Computer is totally insane and tends to change the rules on you.
And you're going to be going on missions with other Troubleshooters, who have the same problems and motivation. The goal, therefore, is to get through the mission alive. Bonus points for being the sole survivor: That way, you can tell Friend Computer that you were the model citizen, and the rest were Traitors you executed for being, um, bad. And no one can contradict you.
There's also your regular job. Again, random chart in there. This is what you do day to day, and aren't always sane.
