Glitch IV: Chapter 2 Abduction

Matthew was finishing his third glass of drink in twenty minutes. He looked over at Albert and frowned.
"This is a hell of a lot less entertaining when I'm the only one and the other person is typing away."
Matthew leaned back on the couch, eventually tiping over and falling down. Now lying on the couch Matthew looked up at the ceiling.
"Way too many unfamiliar ceilings..."
Matthew tried for a good half a minute to get back up before finally succeeding.
"Hey, Al. What happened to the Enterprise and that Runabout?"

"He has WHAT?!" Leah exclaimed in Jules' ear. "shitshitshit..." frantic typing noises. "He's got the Runabout."
LadyArchivist54: Runabout? THE Runabout we were inside when the ship blew?! It's really here, outside the Game?!

"The Enterprise.. I dunno. She probably blew." Albert sighed. "That ship was.. Man. I have no clue what it was, but it brought pain in buckets. The Runabout.. Well, it followed me home. Or I followed it. Or something."

Matthew raised his eyebrows. "It's here? Well, not here here of course but there here? Holy shit." Matthew ran a hand through his hair.
"So, what do we do with it now? I mean, that's gotta have some powerful shit on it."
Matthew took another deep drink from his cup and sighed.

"Enough firepower to level a small country and fight off all the war machines in orbit." Albert grunted softly. "I ain't doing it though. I'd rather not cause a fuss. I've got a teleporter and a powerful sensor array, and that's fine for now. Maybe later I'll patent it's ZPM-based powersource."

Buffalo, New York
Emergency Room of Buffalo Hospital - approximatly six months
------
It was a scene that was repeated in various other hospitals in all major cities across the country. People arriving on foot, driving to the hospitals, or even being taken in by ambulance.
The symptoms were all the same, thier flesh was pallid and cool, the bodies wracked in pain, and blood flecked the lips of the sufferers. Their coughs resounded in the halls.
Already, a few had succumbed to the disease, their bodies graying as their blood simple seemed to disappear from their bodies. The doctors were at a loss, no antibiotics could worked. The news tickets regularly picked up reports of new outbreaks of this disease..and dubbed it the Gray Death..
------
Over the next six months, the Gray Death spread, most cities kept those infected quarintined, keeping the disease from spreading into the general populace. Words of these Quarintine Camps where kept low voiced..
------

"Oh..My..God." Angela was glad she was sitting down; as it was she dropped her soda -- luckily *not* on the laptop. "You're kidding, right? Tell me you're kidding................"
Her head starts to swim with the ideas and possibilities having that kind of power behind them when they started fighting the Null again.
"Leah, what's your SN? And ask Albert if I can have his too..." She actually had their SNs already; it was part of the information she'd come across while looking for their phone numbers. Manners, always manners, damn them. She'd already broken one rule of the debutante code by phoning Albert uninvited. Not to mention that debs didn't usually frequent the types of places in Destiny that she preferred... if they played at all.
Angela had a tendency to play by her own rules occasionally, especially when she knew she wouldn't get caught... It was one of the things that made her a good Internet investigator; she knew how to behave with whom...or what...

Previously: Back at the coffee shop
(Been suffering from writer's block)
When they finally released from their kiss Justin and A.J
"How long?" A.J finally asked
"Oh, since the moment I saw you"
"Same here"
"Oh jesus christ"
suzan was laughing and crying at the same time
"Jesus, how long have you known?"
"Oh.. since your second time in here" she said, able to control herself for a few seconds
They both blushed. Three years of everyone knowing but them... jesus At this point they were holding hands on the tabletop
"So, um... I suppose Ted would want to know this little issue has finally been worked out" Justin said with a grin
"I suppose he would"
"Want to come with?" Justin said with a wink
That one A.J was able to read, for once. And he didnt hesitate before getting up and setting down his half of the bill, which they at this point knew by heart always ordering the same thing, and a substantial tip.
Justin dd the same an they walked out.
Justin thought he could hear a couple amused claps from the other long-term patrons, but he couldnt be sure.

Angela sat in the apartment, her conversation with Leah having switched to text. She hadn't bothered to turn on many lights, just the ones in the kitchen. She was so intent on what she was doing she didn't notice the falling darkness.
It began so softly that she didn't notice it at first. Little voices, like a whispering crowd. Subtle, sibilant hisses. It was like white noise; if she didn't concentrate on listening to it, she didn't even notice it was there. Every once in a while a single sound would be louder than the rest; it was like catching a shadow out of the corner of your eye... when she looked around for the source of the noise it ceased.
Although... when she thought about it, the noises were coming from the part of the room that had the HDD setup. Finally she stretched, closed the laptop and approached the HDD cautiously. The lights were off...the interface unplugged. She reached out a hand to the plug, then pulled it back. "Not tonight," she muttered. "I'm so tired I'm hallucinating."
She turned her back on the electronics and climbed into bed, making sure her alarm clock was set.

"LadyArchivist54 for me... and PoliSciSucks is Albert's." Leah answered. "And yes. He has the Runabout. And he mentioned something about Teleporting into people's bedrooms, so it seems he can get to it.. and US... whenever he needs to!"Devonie wrote:"Oh..My..God." Leah also wound down, running out of things to talk about. Yet, when she went to lie down, she found herself unable to relax. Every tiny sound, from a car going down the street, to the creak of the roof in the wind jerked her wide awake, turning to stare at the HDD in the opposite corner of her bedroom, fearing that it would be lit, turned impossibly on by itself again.Devonie wrote:Angela sat in the apartment, her conversation with Leah having switched to text. It was not a restful night.

Justin and A.J arrived on their respective bikes at the apartment shared by Justin and Ted
They climbed the stairs, hardly able to keep their hands off each-other. Actually hardly able didnt quite apply, physical contact was a constant. neither of them having felt it in years. Pent upsexual frustration would do this to a couple geeks
They walked in
"Hey Ted, I finally bit the bullet... and have you heard from Albert yet?" he asked.
A.J looked perplexed at the mention of an Albert character
"Who is Albert?" he asked.
"A friend of ours, we havent been able to get a hold of him and we are a bit worried"
"Ah. not like him to go missing is it?" he said with a questioning tone, probing for information about just why exactly had happened over the weekend. It was uncharicteristic of Justin to go missing for days, and his answer was not satisfactory earlier.
"No, not typically. Actually it is very uncharacteristic of him" Justin said, skillfully dodging the question. He would tell him... but not yet. He wouldnt believe him. Hell, he barely believed what had happened.
A.J decided to be more blunt.
"You never did answer my question back there. Where were you really"
"As I said, you wouldnt believe me if I told you. But suffice to say, that what I told you want far off" he said, kissing A.J again to distract him. It seemed to work.

Leah woke to the alarm and dragged herself through her morning routine. The shower woke her a little, the hot tea woke her more.. but it was the massive media blitz over Robert Page and the Grey Death that really shook her awake.
Six months? What the hell? Did I come back to an alternate dimension?
Since it was so early, she merely emailed Justin, Ted, Rory, Jules, Albert, and Matt. "Umm.. did we come back to the right world? Who and What is Robert Page, and when'd we have a GreyDeath Epidemic?"
At work, it was even worse. From the moment she walked inside things were ... different. "Hi Leah! How're you today!" chirped a woman she had never seen before.
"umm... Hi." Leah answered, looking around for Selma, the woman normally manning that desk. "Sorry... I'm .. a little out of it today. I was sick over the weekend." Thank god for nametags, as she spotted the woman's name. "So, how was your weekend, Kim?"
After a little bit of smalltalk, where Kim obviously knew more about Leah and the office than a new hire would, Leah retreated to her cube. It was confusing, and so was the fact that Selma's name wasn't on the Personnell Board... nor in the Office Email.
Kim noticed her distraction when she came by to see if Leah was joining her for lunch. "Hey, what's wrong? Still feeling sick?"
"Yeah... and I'm missing Selma..." Leah added.
Kim's face dropped. "I never got to meet her... I can't believe that Grey Death struck here ... Leah? LEAH? Are you ok? You're totally white! Quick, lie down, you look like you're about to faint. LEAH! ...."

It was morning.. Well, in Massachusetts. On the slopes of Mount Marilyn, night and day were foreign concepts as the moon slid around the Earth, never revealing this side to it's prying eyes. Albert was in the Runabout, working through the computer.
Printouts surrounded him. The Zero-Point Module's underlying mechanics, proving that while realspace's vacuum energy was tiny, it was possible to tap smaller, selfcontained realms ripe iwth energy. The Beam itself, showing how to successfully transmit matter with only having to pay for the change in potential energy. The Slipstream drive wasn't touched for now.
But for now, he stuck on one subject. "Alright. Scan internal archives. Show all hits for 'Robert Page' and 'Gray Death'. Someone had altered the world when they got back. Perhaps it was a time machine that did it. Didn't matter, he needed to find it.

Angela had a rough night. The little voices seemed to be everywhere in her dreams. At one point she dreamed that she got up and went into the living room to play Destiny. "NO!" She screamed as the dream-Angela reached for the HDD plug and started hooking it back into the Internet port. "STOP! DON'T!"
Suddenly she came completely awake.
Standing in front of the HDD hookup, plug in hand...
"Oh my God..." she whispered as she dropped the plug. She hit the carpet milliseconds after it did.

Matthew woke up and groaned, finding himself sitting on a couch. How had he gotten here? Where the hell was he? This didn't look like anything in the Enterprise. Slowly he began remembering the night. They'd come back, and he'd needed to get wasted.
Matthew slowly got to his feet and stretched. He was still in Albert's apartment. He needed to get back and open the store. Matthew was finding himself very thankful that he didn't get really bad hangovers. Or maybe he was still a little drunk from last night. Hard to tell. Matthew looked around and noticed that Albert wasn't around so he left him a note thanking him and promising to make up for all that he'd drunk the night before. Then Matthew made his way back to his car and drove back home to open up the shop, try to keep his mind off Yuffie.
As Matthew was driving he heard the pounding of hammers. Oh God! They'd crossed over! They were going to kill everyone! Matthew's car swerved off the road much to the honking and screaming of his fellow drivers. Matthew still heard the hammers as he rustled through his car for anything to use as a weapon. He came up with a window scraper and jumped out of his car looking around for the giant turtles that must be charging down the street.
He didn't see any. Just cars, and a few pedestrians that were giving him weird looks. Matthew blinked and lowered the window scraper. He pinpointed the hammering to be coming from behind him, slowly he turned and saw a construction zone. Matthew dropped the scraper and leaned back against his car. Not sure if he wanted to be relieved that it wasn't the nulls, or be scared that he'd thought they were. Then he noticed the sign of what they were building.
"Page Industries? Founded in 2025? Grey Death clinic? What the hell is going on?"
Matthew took a few steps forward. Seeing a large image of the company founder. "Robert Page, CEO and founder..."
Suddenly memories flooded over Matthew. From when he'd first crossed over to Zion.
'What do you mean you could never cross the Barrier? How did we get here then? Does that mean you can come into our world?'
Something Leah had said.
'... who would believe me? For a split second as I woke... I saw a troll, then he was gone. The HDD was on ... and a man's voice was laughing at me.'
And in the Enterprise.

Bob Page

Matthew staggered backwards, falling back against his car.
"Oh god..."
He quickly jumped into his car and restarted it. Pulling onto the road he performed an illegal U-turn much to the honking of more morning traffic as he made his way back towards Albert's apartment.

"no.. I did not faint..." Leah muttered to the EMS tech that the hovering Kim had worriedly summoned. "I'd been sick over the weekend, some stomach bug... I've not eaten well, that's all."
Kim, the woman who had replaced Selma three months ago --a woman who had been alive and well when Leah left for home Friday! -- was again telling Leah and the EMS how pale she'd gotten, how suddenly it had come over her.
Then the EMS asked The Question: "Could you be pregnant?"
Leah's voice was flat as she answered, "Impossible."
"Are you sure?"
Leah finally raised her head and focused on the EMS, reciting deadly that long-ago doctor's words. "There was a massive infection from the botched abortion, and in order to save the patient's life a complete hysterectomy was required."
Think of it as the patient... as the doctor's dry announcement after the fact. After Leah had woken up in the hospital, to find out that all her hopes of ever having children had died because she'd decided not to have the first one as a 19yr old college student.
She could tell she'd shocked Kim, while the EMS tech was merely embarrassed. "I want to go home. I do not want or need to be transported. If you want to do something, call me a cab so I don't have to walk home," she groused. "If not, then just leave me the F|_|( |< alone."
"umm... what?" Kim asked blankly. Leah looked up at her, about to repeat the sentence, when she realized she'd cursed. In LEET.. something that should have only been done in game. She shot to her feet, nearly knocking over the EMS. "I'm. going. home." she spat, pulling the blood pressure cuff off her arm. "I will not be back tomorrow, either. Write up the leave slip, I'll sign the damn thing whenever the |-|311 I get back."
Again. Again in Leet. What was going on? She didn't wait for Kim or the EMS, she just walked out, barely remembering to grab her purse as she went. "goddesss.. Albert, this would be a great time for a beamup.." she whispered as she hit the door and stormed her frightened way out.

Jack had given up waiting for a message from the male dark elf guy. He had called his friends, explained that something big had come up and that he would meet them some other time. He turned on the TV which was coming up with news.
"Page Enterprises announced that they would have the city's Grey Death Clinic open very soon."
What?
He went to computer room and opened the computer function on his HDD. He spent the next hour reading the news about the Grey Death, and this Page Enterprises. What. The. Fuck. I dont think I would forget something like this. He checked the listing of dead from the town where he grew up.
"Oh no. God no."
Listed were Mr. and Mrs. Steven Martin. Aka Mom and Dad.

"Working" the computer said are a soft chirp and chime. Minutes later, the reply came back, "Search Complete, one thousand six hundred and eighty three results found for "Robert Page". three hundred twenty-nine results found for "Gray Death". Three results found for "Robert Page" and "Gray Death"." the Computer's soft voice issued after a few minutes.
Another chirp, and a document began scrolling on the display, listing the document most often requested due to it's database, the sound was to draw Albert's attention. Slowly, the document began to scroll upwards, at a lesurely speed, in order for Albert to read it..
---------
In the living quarters in the rear of the Runabout, Beverly Crusher awoke, glancing about for a few moments. It was dark, the lights having been cut, and the windows having been blocked. "Computer..lights.." she said, with a slight groan. "A runabout.." she whispered, frowning as she tried to remember what happened.
She was in her office the ninja girl Yuffie had been brought in, critically injured, with no hope for healing her. She was trying to find out what to do...or how to break the bad news to Jean Luc and Auron..
Then the dark cloaked figure, offering a way to heal Yuffie. Then..darkness.
Somehow she wound up in the runabout, which meant she was either abducted, or evacuated.
Slowly, Crusher walked towards the door which would take her to the short hallway in the back of the runabout, which would take her to the dining room, the restrooms, or even the flight deck.
A few minutes later, she stood at the door to the flightdeck, and as it parted, she saw Albert, sitting infront of the display, with papers scattered about. "What's going on here?" she asked incredulously, looking at the mess, "where's Jean Luc and the Enterprise?"

Albert looked up at the Doctor, peering at her. "...Man, your day's gonna be worse than mine." He said, sympathetically. "Sit down. Please. You need to sit before you hear this." He stood up, having read enough. The Council. Bob Page was here. Great.
"The Enterprise was last seen going down over Zion. The abandon-ship was given.. So it's entirely possible Captain Picard got off. I don't know." Albert said softly. "We're not even in the same universe as the Enterprise anymore.. So please, please, try not to make attention come to this little ship."
*************
Matt had returned to find Albert's apartment empty. After a few moments, though, a brilliant flash engulfed him as the Asgard Beam plucked him up into the Runabout.

A dull beeping noise penetrated the black hole that Angela had once called her brain.
She awoke for the second time in 24 hours with carpet in front of her nose and red hair in her mouth. "Crap." she moaned as she rolled over. Then the significance of the beeping sank in. "CRAP!" she swore more vehemently as she struggled up off the floor.
Looking at the clock just inspired even more swearing. There was no way she could make it to work in time. Taking an internal inventory she realized she wasn't 100% anyway. Hell, she wasn't even 50%. She stumbled over to the recliner and rescued the phone from between the cushions.
She dialed her work number... "Hey, this is Angela Jules; is Dreama Stevens available?"
She settled into her recliner and started perusing the news feeds.
"Hi Drea, this is Angela... Listen, I had a run-in with a bug this weekend -- I spent the entire weekend in bed. I'm still not feeling well, and really don't think I should come in today... Yeah, you can messenger anything over if you think I need to work on it, but call first, please -- I intend to go back to bed soon...Thanks, I appreciate it."
She clicked the button and dropped the phone....
"Grey Death.... Robert Page.... " The color drained from her face as she realized what she was reading...
:msg LadyArchivist54: Leah, when you read this BUZZ ME. There's some strange 5h17 going down ... or maybe I'm just crazy.... I'm not going in to work today; I just don't feel up to it.
Leaving the message window open she picked up the line of research she'd begun the night before, muttering, "Why didn't I see this before... what is he doing?"

(OOC: so sorry it took me so long to post again real life delayed me a bit)
Ted spent a little time comforting Justin as best he could, this kind of trauma was going to take a good bit of work, and psychology was anything but a quick fix.
He then walked back into his room and saw two new instant messages the first was from Rory the second he was unsure.
Angry_shrink42: No worries I was talking to Justin, he’s dealing with this as best as can be expected, though I think I should have actually gotten the full license.
The second IM he was unsure of who sent it though it alluded to the events of the week end.
(@Agent fisher)Angry_Shrink42: Yes that is my character, and no your not crazy it really happened, might I ask who this is?

Jack heard his IM beep. He slowly walked back in and saw the message. He had the HDD call up a keyboard and typed a reply.
runner-n-gunner10: This is Jack Martin, aka Decimus. So it was real.

Leah's head of steam got her home, got her up the three flights of stairs and into her apartment, and then she just wanted to collapse on the entryway and cry.
They'd killed Selma. In a weekend, they'd changed the past six months, killed thousands, and no one knew but her ... and those who'd been in there with her.
She looked up at the clock. It was just after 12:30 Central ... If Al was home he'd be online. She really needed to talk to him, so much that she risked plugging in the HDD for the multi-chat option.
As soon as she logged in, she got tagged by Jules
Leah pondered if she should mention how she was cursing in Leet... which is only a spoken language inside Zion....
{Message to PoliSciSucks} Al... please be home? I need to talk to you ASAP! We need to chat with everyone!
{Message to BioNerd2001} Justin! Weird shit's happening, we all need to talk!
{Message to AngryShrink42} Ted, it's Leah/Leandra. We need to get everyone together for a chat ASAP about this GreyDeath thing!
