In all fairness the rabid fundies ARE the ones you tend to hear about in the news (especially WRT the US). Non-rabid christians rarely make the news outside local, because they rarely ever do anything spectacular (as opposed to beneficial). Excepting the catholic church of course, which regularly makes a fool of itself.
They probably fall under the 'rabid' qualifier of your earlier statement, Master Bruce.
True, I suppose.
Part of that may be me being german and Religion quite simply being a non-issue for most of the population (kinda like the Clinton scandal was a non-issue for everybody EXCEPT, apparently, the americans), so my default reaction to someone yelling 'But the Bible says you shant!' is 'Yeah. So?'
'I wonder how far the barometer sunk.'-'All der way. Trust me on dis.'

'Undead or alive, you're coming with me.'
'Detritus?'-'Yessir?'-'Never go to Klatch'.-'Yessir.'
'Many fine old manuscripts in that place, I believe. Without price, I'm told.'-'Yes, sir. Certainly worthless, sir.'-'Is it possible you misunderstood what I just said, Commander?'
'Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a sword a little'

I fail to see why the Clinton matter should concern anyone but Americans. It simply isn't another nation business in these matters. If Tony Blair gets caught tomorrow in bed with a hooker, unless the girl is under age I will not comment because it's clearly a British private matter.

That being said the Catholic church isn't as rabid as some make it out. Currently the Pope is conserivative but the odds of him making it to even 2015 are not considered good.

Thanks for missing the point by about a parsec. Naturally no other nation should have had a 'say' in the issue (and I'm reasonably certain none did) but the very fact that it WAS an issue says something about the way politics work in the US, which IS a concern for the rest of the world.

I didn't say anything about who had a say. I said it was not a concern for foregin nations as it was an internal US matter.

It's not that they're burning witches, but the negative stances they hold are ones they're utterly insane on. The matter of birth control and Africa is a prime example, and their stance in the face of an epidemic has been abominable.

You indeed didn't, and I apologize for assuming that being the case.
I nevertheless maintain that the very fact that it was a matter worthy of concern says something about the US' political landscape.

And you'd be dead wrong. If the US were a 4rth world country somewere that nobody cares about than maybe, yeah, who cares what you do? Unfortunately you're the world's last remaining superpower and the way you handle your internal affairs DOES affect the rest of the world.
The fact that the Clinton affair made you the western world's laughingstock certainly didn't help matters.

Yeah, to be blunt, Clinton's action had no effect on our foregin policy. Clinton's action had no chance of ever effecting our foregin policy. Since our internal laws and policies have abolsutely no effect on how Germany lives it life (if it did do you really think your hookers would have a union?) In other words, while Germany is a valued and trustworthy ally, when Germany or any other group of outsiders poke their nose in the reply will always be the same.

Go fuck yourself with a baseball bat wrapped in barb wire.

Funny frigid, I don't recall you being shy about criticizing European foreign or domestic policy.

As I recall I never said anything about Chirac's thieving when he was Mayor of Paris. Nor did I say anything about the personal hibats of various european personale.

When a goverment wants to be critial of other nations but has problems keeping kids from rioting. Then fair game as far as I am concerned.

Yes they did (or more accurately, your ridiculously exaggerated reaction to them did). They made the US look silly like nobody's business.
Since our internal laws and policies have abolsutely no effect on how Germany lives it life (if it did do you really think your hookers would have a union?) In other words, while Germany is a valued and trustworthy ally, when Germany or any other group of outsiders poke their nose in the reply will always be the same.
And that means-what, exactly? We sure as hell can't change your domestic laws by force, that's for sure. Are you telling me that you will be rejecting outside influence BECAUSE it's outside influence?

Methinks that it's time for a split of this merry topic.

Fuck it, I'm a big fan of free discourse all over. But since I'm already a participant here, I'll just wait for Nitram or Tev to do the honors.

Another N&P topic doesn't look so bad. 'The Clinton debacle and its effects on international politics' or whatever portion of it the thread title length limits will allow?

Every country is fair game for criticism, France's fucked up social policies and the US's health care woes both go on the plate next to Islam. If you don't like it, post counter arguments or stay out of News and Politics.
