The subject of this thread is built around a very simple idea, Iran and Syria are helping the people who are shotting at US troops in Iraq. Whether it be the rat line from Syria into Western Iraq, Iranian weapons in Shia militas or other means, they are on a covert level helping at least some factions of the insurgents, militas and terrorist groups that make up the problem of Iraq. I'm pretty sure some of you don't agree with me on that, but indulge me here or start a different thread please.
On thing that gnaws on me is... Well if Iran and Syria are gonna play dirty here, why not play right back. There are several groups within Iran itself that are not only willing to resist but have. If Iran wants to play games, then by all means let us play games.
Admittly my knowledge on Syria is much thinner, but worse come to worse couldn't we just start quietly passing good russian gear to anti-syrians in Lebanon?
Okay, I'm throwing open the floor for any reasons why we shouldn't engage in such actions.
Playing Dirty.

I am going to give you a quick response, which has thought behind it, but not as much information as perhaps would be nice.
As I understand things, Iraq is going badly, and additional help from neighboring countries is not welcome in my mind. If we can cut off some of this covert aid by stirring up our own covert trouble then
A) I think we should. Even if we don't directly cut off the supply of aid, we might have a chance to instigate upheaval within these countries and maybe make things better down the road.
B) I think we should. It probably won't make things worse, and at this point I'm all for a touch of chaos. Besides, it seems fair play if I understand things adequately.
As for reasons why we shouldn't... all I got right now is that being caught won't help our country's image in that part of the world. On the other hand, can it get worse? I'm serious--can it get enough worse that we should care? (If so, then we should care and fear of getting caught would be reason not to play our games)

So long as we don't pull an H.W. and leave them to get burned after we set them up.
